Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Construction and renovation debris

Special rules apply

Opelika Environmental Services does not pick up construction or demolition material on the weekly route, and the exclusion explicitly names rolls of carpet. The city's instruction is to call for a quote, and anyone performing construction work on a property is responsible for removing the waste.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no construction rate because there is no routine route for it. The trash page says to call Opelika Environmental Services for a quote to collect the material, so the price depends on the load, and a private container or hauling company quotes its own price as well.
When & how
Call 334-705-5480 for a quote before the material is placed anywhere for collection. There is no scheduled day for renovation debris, and the weekly trash route does not include it.
Get it ready
Keep demolition material, concrete, dirt, rocks, iron, paint and remodeling waste off the curb, because the city lists them among the items it never collects. Set a quoted load where the truck can reach it with five feet of clearance, and keep anything that could blow away bagged or boxed.

Garbage is not trash in Opelika

Bagged household waste belongs in the 95-gallon cart, and everything else the city hauls is trash: limbs, grass clippings, furniture, appliances, metal objects and other non-hazardous material. Trash goes out on the same day as the garbage cart and is handled by the knuckle-boom trucks, so a couch or a mattress never belongs in the cart and garbage never belongs in the trash pile.

Clearance, bagging and the cart clock

Trash needs at least five feet of clearance from mailboxes, power poles, tree lines and parked vehicles, and crews will not collect a pile that sits under power, cable or phone lines, behind a parking space or on a vacant lot. Anything loose enough to blow away or wash down a storm drain has to be bagged or boxed, and styrofoam always has to be bagged. The garbage cart itself goes out by 6:30 a.m. on the collection day and comes back to the house the same day, or a 10 dollar service fee applies.

Five cubic yards a week, and oversized wood needs a quote

The city collects five cubic yards of trash and yard waste per address each week, and it will not take limbs thicker than six inches or longer than five feet. Larger trimmings and stumps have to be quoted by calling Environmental Services, tree trimmings are only collected within 100 feet of the house and in the maintained part of the yard, and material left by a tree company is the company's responsibility, which is why tree crews have to carry a business license and haul their own debris.

Opelika Environmental Services

Call for a construction collection quote

A household or contractor with renovation, demolition or remodeling material that the weekly trash route refuses.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes no rate for renovation material and instead asks residents to call for a quote, so the price depends on the load. Confirm the material and the amount with Opelika Environmental Services at 334-705-5480.
Arrange it
Call 334-705-5480, describe the material, and follow whatever collection arrangement the department quotes before anything is set out.

The weekly route excludes construction and demolition material including rolls of carpet, and whoever performs the work on a property is responsible for removing the waste.

With a new purchase

Order a private container for a renovation load

A household or contractor with more renovation material than a quoted city collection would cover, or with a load the city will not take at all.

Cost & conditions
A container or hauling company quotes its own price for the box and the disposal, so confirm the rate and the accepted material before ordering.
Arrange it
Contact a licensed container company to place the box, then have the same company collect it when the work is finished.

The city does not run a routine route for renovation debris and refuses concrete, dirt, rocks, iron and paint at the curb, so a private box is the local alternative, and hazardous material still needs its own disposal route.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Opelika runs two full-service drop-off sites for the items the cart will not take, and the difference between them is the opening hours. The Jeter Avenue center at 675 Jeter Avenue, across from Jeter Primary School, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and takes appliances, residential tires, household paint cans of one gallon or less, cooking oil, yard waste and recycling. The 8th Avenue center at 600 8th Avenue, near the Denson Recreation Center, opens at 8 a.m. Friday and closes at 8 a.m. Tuesday, which makes it the weekend stop, and it takes the same appliances, tires, paint cans, cooking oil and recycling without yard waste. At both sites the material has to be loose rather than bagged, food containers have to be washed, and glass, batteries and electronics are refused outright. Household paint is limited to one-gallon cans and eight tires is the limit for a resident. Renovation material does not go to either center: construction and demolition debris, including rolls of carpet, is excluded from the city route and has to be quoted by calling Environmental Services at 334-705-5480. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Opelika.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Opelika?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Opelika?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Who collects garbage and trash in Opelika?

Opelika Environmental Services runs the city program and can be reached on 334-705-5480 for garbage and trash questions. Garbage is collected weekly from a 95-gallon cart, and trash such as furniture, appliances, limbs and metal objects is collected on the same day by the knuckle-boom trucks. New or changed service is arranged through Opelika Power Services on 334-705-5170, whose customer service center is at 600 Fox Run Parkway.Official guidance

How much trash will the city take in one week?

Five cubic yards of trash and yard waste per address each week, on top of the bagged garbage in the cart. A pile larger than that may take several weeks to clear, limb pieces have to be under six inches in diameter and five feet long, and bigger wood or a heavy load has to be quoted by calling Environmental Services at 334-705-5480.Official guidance

What will Opelika never pick up?

Paint, iron, rocks, building remodeling material, concrete and dirt, plus tires, automobile motors and other auto parts. Empty paint cans filled with sand or kitty litter are collected. Residents may bring up to eight tires to a recycling center, and one-gallon paint cans from households are accepted there too, with no 5-gallon cans.Official guidance

How does Opelika handle paint?

Paint and other liquids are not allowed in the cart or the trash unless they have been solidified by mixing with oil dry, kitty litter or sand, and there is a service fee if paint is found in a cart. Households may bring one-gallon paint cans to the Jeter Avenue or 8th Avenue recycling center, and the centers do not take 5-gallon buckets or paint from businesses.Official guidance
