Check the material before recycling
Kane County’s rule applies to metal free weights and dumbbells at the Fabyan Parkway facility. The program does not pay residents, and concrete-filled or rubber-coated weights are not automatically covered by the metal-only rule, so confirm those materials with the facility first.
Reuse usable weights first
If the weights are usable, ask Play It Again Sports whether a nearby store wants them. Stores assess used fitness equipment based on condition, demand and brand, and they may decline items.

When Dropcurb fits
If the accepted weights are already outside and accessible, Dropcurb handles loading, transport and disposal. Free weights are selected in 10-pound increments, while stands, racks and benches are added separately. You can check pricing before moving the items outside, but they must be ready outdoors and accessible before pickup; indoor carry-out is not available.
