Can you throw out furniture on garbage day?

Not automatically. In New York City, residential bulk collection allows up to six items per collection day: mostly metal or rigid-plastic items go with recycling, while other nonrecyclable furniture belongs on a trash-only day. That is a NYC example, not a nationwide rule. Check whether your building permits set-out, confirm the correct bulk or trash schedule, and follow local item limits before placing furniture outside.

A regular garbage-day schedule is not the same as a bulky-item schedule. Confirm your municipality’s furniture rules, then set the item out only on the permitted day and in the permitted location. If you are in a building, get the building’s permission and follow its set-out instructions.
