Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions and electronics

Special rules apply

A television is a bulky large item rather than a cart item: the hauler's brochure names televisions among the individual large items a pickup takes, and California's covered device law bars monitors and televisions from regular garbage. The county hazardous waste facility at the Chico airport takes cathode-ray units.

City cost & eligibility
A television on a bulky pickup uses the account's annual allowance, and the city rate schedule effective July 1, 2026 prices a further collection separately at $73.81 for the first cubic yard with $20.13 for each further cubic yard on the same trip. The household hazardous waste facility is free to Butte County households that show a garbage or utility bill, while a qualifying small business pays a fee and needs an appointment.
When & how
Add the television to a bulky pickup booked at least 48 hours ahead, or take it to the Butte Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 1101 Marauder Street, open Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with no appointment for a county household.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from a computer before it leaves the house, keep electronics and batteries out of every cart, and keep a cathode-ray unit off a landfill load. The facility asks for original labeled containers, no mixing, and no more than five gallons or 50 pounds per trip.

A bulky pickup is booked by phone and confirmed by the allowance

Waste Management runs the city's bulky collection, so the route is a phone call rather than an online request: (530) 893-4777, at least 48 hours before the usual collection day, with the items named when the appointment is made. Everything has to be curbside by 5 a.m. on the collection day. The account's annual allowance is what decides whether the pickup is included or billed, and the city rate schedule effective July 1, 2026 prices further collections, further cubic yards and an item containing Freon separately.

Carts go out by 6 a.m. and nothing else rides along

Trash, recycling and green waste come out on the same weekly collection day with the container against the curb and at least three feet from parked cars, mailboxes and other obstacles, and the container goes back in the same day. All trash is bagged and the lid has to close, because overflow or material left outside can be billed or left behind. Construction waste, auto parts, tires, household hazardous waste and medical or electronic waste do not belong in any cart.

What the bulky pickup and the landfill will not take

Tires, construction debris, medical waste and household hazardous waste are refused in a bulky pickup, and the county landfill refuses liquid paints, antifreeze, used motor oil, freon gas, compressed gases, pool chemicals, ammunition and explosives on top of that. Paints, cleaners, automotive fluids, batteries, fluorescent lights and electronic waste go instead to the Butte Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 1101 Marauder Street, which is free to county households that show a garbage or utility bill and is open Fridays and Saturdays.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-hauling in Chico means driving out to the county facilities. Neal Road Recycling and Waste Facility at 1023 Neal Road in Paradise is open every day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closes only on Easter, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day, with Christmas Eve ending at noon. It takes furniture, carpet and pad, textiles, glass and ceramics, wood waste, sheetrock and drywall, and dirt, concrete, asphalt and rebar with recycling on site, while tires are handled as a special waste and car batteries, refrigerators and fluorescent tubes go through the scale house as hazardous waste. What it will not take is just as important: liquid paints and other chemicals, freon gas, air-conditioning refrigerant, antifreeze, used motor oil, gasoline, compressed gases, pool chemicals, ammunition, explosives and radioactive material. Payment there is cash, local checks or credit cards, with no debit cards. Household hazardous waste goes instead to the Butte Regional facility at 1101 Marauder Street at the Chico airport, which is free to county households that show a garbage or utility bill and is open Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a five gallon or 50 pound limit per trip. The county also lists mattress and appliance routes for households that would rather use a business: mattresses and box springs are taken at Neal Road or through a bulky item pickup appointment, and major appliances can go to retailers and metal businesses the county names, with fees that depend on the condition of the unit. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Chico.

How much does TV removal cost in Chico?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Chico?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do televisions and computers go in Chico?

Two published routes. A television can go out as one of the individual large items on a curbside bulky pickup, and the county's household hazardous waste facility at 1101 Marauder Street takes monitors and televisions containing cathode-ray tubes along with computers, batteries and fluorescent lights. Working computers can also be donated through the county's reuse listing, which names Chico Computers for Classrooms on Otterson Drive.Official guidance

Who collects trash and bulky items in Chico?

Waste Management collects residential garbage, recycling and green waste inside the city limits under the city franchise, and the city's environmental services line answers program questions at (530) 592-5541 or Recycle@chicoca.gov. Commercial collection was franchised to both Recology Butte and Colusa Counties and Waste Management in designated zones. County government runs the landfill and the household hazardous waste facility, which is why bulky, construction and hazardous questions cross between the city franchise and the county.Official guidance

How many bulky pickups does a Chico household get?

The hauler's Chico service brochure gives each residential account up to two curbside bulky pickups a year, each one a combination of loose material up to four cubic yards and three individual large items such as a television, furniture or an appliance. The city rate schedule effective July 1, 2026 prices a further collection, further cubic yards and any item containing Freon separately, so confirm what remains on the account when you book at (530) 893-4777.Official guidance

Where do paint, batteries and televisions go in Chico?

To the Butte Regional Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 1101 Marauder Street at the Chico airport, which takes paints including latex, cleaners, automotive fluids, batteries, fluorescent lights, televisions and monitors with cathode-ray tubes, pharmaceuticals and sharps. It is free to Butte County households that show a garbage or utility bill, and it is open Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with no appointment.
