Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

  1. Arrange any unmounting first.

Dropcurb does not remove TVs from walls or do indoor carrying. Arrange the help you need before pickup day, including the trip down interior stairs or through an elevator.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

  3. Show us the TV that is going.

Add a location photo and access notes after booking. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. For exposed broken glass or unusual damage, send a photo and check with us before booking.

Electronics and televisions

Accepted with preparation

Televisions and other electronic waste are accepted through the district's free door-to-door household hazardous waste collection rather than the bulky program, which does not list them. The hazardous waste program explicitly names televisions, computer-related items, printers, copiers, cell phones, stereos, speakers, scanners, cables and other small appliances.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. CMSD solid waste customers, up to three door-to-door household hazardous waste pickups a year with a maximum of 15 gallons or 125 pounds at each pickup. Households that use dumpsters are not eligible.
When & how
Call CR&R Customer Service at (949) 646-4617 Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or file an online Service Request for Solid Waste then Household Hazardous Waste. CR&R confirms the quantity and types before scheduling and explains how to package it, and the bags or containers go out front by 6:00 a.m. on the collection day.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before handover, keep batteries, bulbs and other universal waste separate from the bulky pile, and store sharps in a puncture-proof container because that is the program's rule.

Hazardous waste goes out at the front of the house

The household hazardous waste collection is door to door. After CR&R confirms the quantity and types and sets a date, the resident bags or containers the material as the hauler directs and places it in front of the house by 6:00 a.m. on the collection day, and does not need to be home. Each pickup is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds and a household gets up to three a year.

Book the free door-to-door hazardous waste pickup

Use an Orange County household hazardous waste facility

An address that is not a CMSD solid waste customer, such as a household whose weekly trash is collected in a dumpster.

Cost & conditions
The district states the material can be disposed of free at the four Orange County household hazardous waste collection facilities, but it does not publish their addresses or hours on the page, so check the county's own listing before a trip.
Arrange it
The district points non-CMSD addresses at the four county collection facilities, so look up the county list and take the material to the nearest one.

The county facilities are the route for addresses outside the district's customer base, and the district's own pickup programs are closed to dumpster-service households.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

The district's household programs are collection based rather than drop-off based. A CMSD solid waste customer books a large item pickup for a couch, a mattress, an appliance, scrap metal, glass, clothing or a small amount of contained yard debris, with three complimentary pickups a year and ten items at each one, none larger than 8 by 4 feet or heavier than 150 pounds, scheduled through CR&R at (949) 646-4617. Household hazardous waste, which for this program includes televisions, computers, printers, cell phones, stereos, scanners and other small appliances along with paints, chemicals, batteries, bulbs and sharps, is collected free at the front of the house up to three times a year with a maximum of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per pickup. Construction material, concrete, asphalt, soil, sand and tires have no district route at all: the large item program refuses them outright and the district tells a household in that position to call a contracted hauler. An address that is not a district solid waste customer, including a property served by dumpsters, cannot use either pickup program and is pointed to the four Orange County household hazardous waste collection facilities. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Costa Mesa.

How much does TV removal cost in Costa Mesa?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Costa Mesa?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do televisions and computers go in Costa Mesa?

Onto the district's free door-to-door household hazardous waste collection, which names televisions, computer-related items, printers, copiers, cell phones, stereos, speakers, scanners, cables and other small appliances among what it takes. A CMSD customer gets up to three such pickups a year with a maximum of 15 gallons or 125 pounds each, scheduled through CR&R at (949) 646-4617.Official guidance

Who runs trash collection in Costa Mesa?

The Costa Mesa Sanitary District administers residential and multi-family collection for the city and CR&R is the hauler, which the city's own residential waste page confirms. The district handles both large item pickups and household hazardous waste, and CR&R customer service at (949) 646-4617 books them.Official guidance

How does the Costa Mesa hazardous waste pickup work?

It is a free door-to-door collection for CMSD solid waste customers, with up to three pickups a year and a maximum of 15 gallons or 125 pounds each. CR&R verifies what will be collected and sets a date, the resident packages the material as directed and puts it in front of the house by 6:00 a.m. on the collection day, and nobody has to be home.Official guidance

Can a property with dumpster service use these programs?

No. Both the large item program and the hazardous waste program are limited to CMSD solid waste customers, and a property whose weekly trash goes into a dumpster is not a customer for that purpose. The district tells those addresses to call the contracted hauler listed on the dumpster, and points non-customers to the four Orange County household hazardous waste collection facilities.Official guidance
