Get it ready
The diversion rules apply to all new construction, non-residential remodeling, addition and alteration projects, residential additions and alterations that increase the building's footprint, volume or size, and all demolition projects, with residential work that does not increase the conditioned area, plumbing, electrical or mechanical permits, seismic tie-downs, roofing without tear-off, new fencing without replacement and prefabricated patio enclosures among the exemptions. Keep demolition material off the bulk pile, because the city refuses construction debris there.
Paint, thinners, used motor oil and filters, antifreeze, cleaning products, pool chemicals, pesticides, mercury thermometers, expired medication, syringes, batteries, light bulbs, televisions, computers and appliances are all household hazardous or universal waste, and none of them may go in a residential cart or a commercial bin, down a sink drain or into a storm drain. They go to the city's collection facility at 3990 Arden Drive on a Clean Up event date, and sharps containers come free from Valley Vista Services, up to four a year.
