Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and small electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronic waste is free through the residential pickup programme at up to four items a week, and the Desert Arc events add a free drop-off open to the whole Coachella Valley.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Indio residents for the weekly electronic waste pickup, up to four electronic items a week, and anyone in the Coachella Valley for the free Desert Arc collection events.
When & how
Call Burrtec at 760-340-2113 to schedule the electronic waste pickup before anything goes to the curb, and use your regular trash day. The Desert Arc events are the free drop-off alternative, with questions at 760-346-1611.
Get it ready
Wipe or reset anything that stores data, and keep electronics out of the regular trash, because it is illegal to put hazardous electronics such as cathode ray tube televisions and monitors, LCD monitors, LCD televisions, plasma televisions and laptops with LCD displays into the trash. The busiest route takes up to four items a week.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Nothing sits at the curb longer than a day

The city ordinance does not allow garbage or garbage containers to be left at the curbside for more than 24 hours, and the same 24 hour rule applies to a bulky item or electronic waste set-out before its scheduled pickup. Keeping the curb clear also discourages illegal dumping.

Book five days ahead and keep to four items a week

Bulky item and electronic waste pickups are free and unlimited in number, but each request has to reach Burrtec at least five days before the regular garbage collection day, the material goes out no more than 24 hours before the scheduled pickup, and Burrtec collects a maximum of four items a week.

Hazardous material never goes in the trash or recycling

Oil based paint, car batteries, refrigerators, air conditioning units, televisions, computer monitors, pesticides and similar items cannot go in the curbside trash or recycling containers. The city gives (760) 391-4129 for proper disposal and points at the Coachella and Indio Waste Transfer Station on Landfill Road, where the ABOP centre takes antifreeze, batteries, oil, filters and paint only. The county's permanent facility on Vella Road in Palm Springs takes all household hazardous waste types.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Indio runs the collection through Burrtec, the city's franchised hauler at (760) 340-2113, with garbage and recyclables weekly on the designated service day. Bulky items and electronic waste are free with unlimited requests: contact Burrtec at least five days before the collection day, keep to four items a week, and set nothing out more than 24 hours ahead. Sofas, chairs and refrigerators are the published bulky examples, electronics ride their own pickup at up to four items a week, and the Desert Arc events add a free e-waste drop-off open to the whole Coachella Valley. Does my old TV have to work?
