Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are sorted as their own group in the annual curbside cleanup, they can be dropped at the Fairmead Landfill, and a television or computer monitor is accepted there free of charge.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. A television or computer monitor is accepted free of charge at the Fairmead Landfill, and electronics are sorted out at no extra charge during the annual curbside cleanup for a single-family home inside the city limits. An on-demand household electronic waste pickup ordered through Mid Valley Disposal is priced separately, so ask for the amount when the request is placed.
When & how
Put electronics with the sorted cleanup pile up to three days before the scheduled cleanup date, or drop them at the Fairmead Landfill at 21739 Road 19 in Chowchilla, which is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and closed Sundays and major holidays.
Get it ready
Keep electronics out of all three carts, because the hauler lists electronic waste among the items that must not go in a container. Wipe personal data from a computer, phone or drive before it leaves the property.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Build the cleanup pile to the published limits

The annual curbside cleanup takes one pile per single-family home inside the city limits, no larger than 5 feet by 5 feet by 10 feet and roughly one truckload. Put it out up to three days before the scheduled cleanup date, at least six inches back from the curb so sewer vents, water inlets, mailboxes and fire hydrants stay clear, and bag or box anything loose.

Sort the pile so each crew can take its part

The city asks residents to separate debris, appliances, mattresses, electronics, green waste and general trash rather than mixing them into one heap. Sorting is what lets the crew and the recycling routes handle each group, and it is also why a mattress and an appliance should not end up buried under loose rubbish.

For your Dropcurb pickup

Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

City of Madera and Mid Valley Disposal

Annual citywide curbside cleanup

A single-family home inside the Madera city limits with excess trash, bulky debris, appliances, mattresses, electronics or green waste to clear.

Cost & conditions
No charge. The cleanup is an event rather than a per item charge, and it is open to single-family homes inside the Madera city limits. Unincorporated county addresses, multi-family dwellings and commercial businesses are excluded by name.
Arrange it
Watch for the city flyer in the utility bill and the zone map for the area, then put the sorted pile out up to three days before the scheduled cleanup date.

One pile per home, no larger than 5 feet by 5 feet by 10 feet, and the long refused list applies, including tires, batteries, paint, propane tanks, needles, dirt and rock, 50-gallon drums, and anything over four feet long or 150 pounds.

With a new purchase

Order a bulky item pickup from the hauler

A household that missed the cleanup window and has appliances, a couch, a mattress, electronic waste, tires or bagged trash to clear.

Cost & conditions
Mid Valley Disposal describes the bulky item collection as a temporary service at a low rate and does not publish the amount on the pages read here. Submit the request and the representative who contacts the customer quotes the pickup, so confirm the amount at 559-237-9425 before the job order is confirmed.
Arrange it
Submit the bulky pick-up request or call 559-237-9425. A representative responds during business hours Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and submits a job order, so wait for the confirmation before setting anything out.

This is an on-demand service priced per request rather than a scheduled municipal collection, and the accepted items are the hauler's call on the request, so confirm the specific item list when the pickup is arranged.

Drop electronics at the county landfill

A household with a television, a computer monitor or other electronic waste to dispose of.

Cost & conditions
No charge. The City states that televisions and computer monitors are accepted free of charge at the Fairmead Landfill. Other material in the same load is handled at the gate, so keep a free item load separate if only the free items are intended.
Arrange it
Take the devices to the Fairmead Landfill at 21739 Road 19 in Chowchilla, open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and closed Sundays and major holidays.

The landfill is a county facility rather than a city one, the household hazardous waste window there runs only on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to Madera County residents only, and other material dropped at the same time is charged at the gate.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Madera has no city landfill, so a self hauled load goes to the Fairmead Landfill, also called the Mammoth Recycling Facility and Transfer Station, at 21739 Road 19 in Chowchilla. It is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and it is closed Sundays and major holidays. The site is owned by Madera County and operated under contract with Red Rock Environmental Group, and it is open to the public for self haulers. Televisions and computer monitors are accepted free of charge, and electronic waste generally can be dropped there during open hours. The same site runs the county household hazardous waste window on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for Madera County residents, with businesses served by appointment. Paint has its own retail route, because vendors take up to five gallons of latex and oil-based paint, stains and varnish, and the city lists Sherwin-Williams at 1809 Howard Rd. The city's recycling guide also points at free waste tire recycling events, a line for tires left in the public right of way, and free used oil and filter bags available at 1030 S. Gateway Drive while supplies last. A per load gate rate is not published on the city or county pages read here, so confirm the charge at 559-665-1310 before loading. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Madera.

How much does TV removal cost in Madera?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Madera?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where can I take a television?

The Fairmead Landfill at 21739 Road 19 in Chowchilla accepts televisions and computer monitors free of charge. The city notes that these devices can contain mercury paste, gas and leaded glass, which is why they are handled as household hazardous waste rather than as trash.Official guidance

Can electronics go in the cart or the cleanup pile?

Not in a cart, because Mid Valley Disposal lists electronic waste among the items that must not be placed in the containers and the city's guide puts electronics in the not allowed in any cart group. Electronics are collected in the annual curbside cleanup when they are sorted into their own group, or dropped at the landfill.Official guidance

The City of Madera contracts residential and commercial trash, recycling and green waste service to Mid Valley Disposal, whose customer line is 559-237-9425 and whose toll free number is 1-800-706-5779. Residential service changes are handled by the City at 559-661-5406, option 4, and billing questions go to City Utility Billing at 559-661-5459.Official guidance

How is the Madera trash rate set?

The City Council adopts the solid waste and street sweeping rates. Resolution 22-103 set a five year schedule effective August 1, 2022, and its attachment lists the three standard residential containers at $49.31 a month as a maximum in the fiscal year 2026/27 column, noting that the later columns are maximum rates that may be adjusted by future Council action. City Utility Billing at 559-661-5459 confirms the amount billed on the account.Official guidance

Do apartments and businesses qualify for the curbside cleanup?

No. The citywide curbside cleanup is limited to single-family homes inside the Madera city limits and it excludes unincorporated areas of Madera County, multi-family dwellings and commercial businesses. Mid Valley Disposal still handles residential and commercial collection, so an apartment resident can ask the property manager or order a bulky item pickup from the hauler.Official guidance

Where do tires go in Madera?

Tires are refused in the curbside cleanup and the city's guide puts them in the not allowed in any cart group. The guide lists free waste tire recycling events on selected dates and a tire cleanup line for tires left in the public right of way, and Mid Valley Disposal lists tires among the items it collects through a bulky item pickup, which is quoted on contact.Official guidance

Where does household hazardous waste go in Madera?

The Fairmead Landfill site hosts the county household hazardous waste facility, open to Madera County residents on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with businesses served by appointment. Paint can also go to a participating vendor, and the city lists Sherwin-Williams at 1809 Howard Rd.Official guidance

How do I recycle used motor oil?

The city also runs free waste tire recycling events on selected dates, and household batteries belong with household hazardous waste rather than in any cart.Official guidance
