Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Have the fixture safely detached and any plumbing or electrical connections handled by an appropriate professional. We do not remove installed fixtures or perform demolition.

  2. Keep the booked items separate

Have the fixtures empty and ready at ground level. Keep them apart from rubble, loose renovation materials, tools and anything you want to keep.

  3. Show the outdoor handoff

Construction material and debris

Special rules apply

The City accepts light construction material on a cleanup appointment when it is bagged, boxed or bundled under the weight limit, while the hauler excludes construction and demolition, and larger loads go to a transfer station.

City cost & eligibility
No single published rate covers a construction load. The City's chart lists light construction material such as doors, windows, plastic sheds, lumber, sinks, toilets, drywall, electrical and plumbing as no fee items when it is bagged, boxed or bundled under the weight limit, and asks residents to call Recology first to confirm it can be collected. The hauler's page lists construction and demolition as not accepted, and material too large, heavy or dangerous for pickup goes to the SMaRT Station, a roll off box, or through Solid Waste staff at 650-903-6311. Confirm the route and any charge before loading.
When & how
Call Recology at 650-967-3034 before setting out any construction material, because the two programs treat it differently, and arrange a transfer station trip or a roll off box for anything heavier or larger than a bag or bundle.
Get it ready
Bag, box or bundle light material under 50 pounds per item, keep concrete, soil, rock and stumps out of the pile entirely, and keep treated wood out of the load because the SMaRT Station refuses it. The Bin for a Day rental also refuses large or heavy construction and demolition debris.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Mountain View residents can self haul in three ways. A cleanup appointment can be exchanged for a voucher that covers one free vehicle entrance at the SMaRT Station in Sunnyvale, where the same items are accepted including bulky goods and electronic waste, proof of residency is required, the load has to be covered, and disposal is charged by material type. The Mountain View Recycling Center on Terra Bella Avenue takes mattresses, box springs, household appliances, untreated lumber, electronics and good condition furniture free by appointment for residents. The Recology South Bay Transfer Station at 1675 Rogers Ave in San Jose takes any condition furniture, appliances, carpet, wood, construction debris, sheetrock, garbage and yard trimmings for a fee with no appointment, credit or debit only. Household hazardous waste is handled separately, by appointment through the Santa Clara County program at 408.299.7300. Household discards, household appliances, plumbing fixtures and furniture, green waste, construction and demolition debris, concrete, dirt and sod, clean wood debris, asphalt, brick and pavers, and tires, with recycling, paint, and compost or mulch accepted at no charge for eligible residents.

Mountain View residents need a driver's license proving residency or a business license, hazardous waste, liquids and treated wood are refused, and the disposal rate depends on the material type and volume, so confirm the rate before hauling. An uncovered load carries a published fee and a tarp is issued.

Disposal is charged by material type per cubic yard or per large item on a separate rate document that was not retained. An uncovered load is charged a published fee under the Sunnyvale municipal code, and recycling, paint drop-off and compost or mulch pickup are free for eligible residents. Confirm the current disposal rate at 408-752-8530.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Mountain View.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Mountain View?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Mountain View?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Can light construction material go out with a cleanup?

The City's chart lists light construction material such as doors, windows, plastic sheds, lumber, sinks, toilets, drywall, electrical and plumbing as no fee items when bagged, boxed or bundled under 50 pounds, and says the service is intended for material generated by residents doing light construction work. Call Recology first to confirm the collection.Official guidance

Where does heavier debris go?

Material too large, heavy or dangerous for pickup, including boxes of tiles, concrete, rock, stumps and windows, goes to the SMaRT Station, into a roll off box arranged through Recology, or is discussed with Solid Waste staff at 650-903-6311. The SMaRT Station accepts construction and demolition debris, concrete, dirt and sod, clean wood, asphalt, brick and pavers from Mountain View residents for a fee.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Mountain View?

Recology Mountain View is the exclusive franchised hauler and can be reached at 650-967-3034. The City's Utility Billing Service at 650-903-6317 handles ordering or changing residential service.Official guidance

Where does household hazardous waste go?

Hazardous waste drop-off is by appointment only through the Santa Clara County household hazardous waste program at 408.299.7300, and the hauler states it is illegal to put hazardous waste in the trash or down a drain or gutter. Batteries can go in a sealed bag on top of the split cart with the terminals taped or to the Recycling Center or the SMaRT Station, medications go to the confidential drop box in the Mountain View Police and Fire Administration lobby at 1000 Villa Street, paint goes to PaintCare locations or the SMaRT Station, and sharps go to providers, pharmacies or a MED-Project location.Official guidance

How does the split recycling cart work?

The recycling cart is split into one side for mixed paper and cardboard and the other for bottles and cans, and it is collected with a fully automated truck that keeps the two streams apart until they reach the SMaRT Station. Recycling is collected every other week while trash and compost are weekly, and shredded paper should be placed in a paper bag that is closed tightly.Official guidance

Why can I not book a cleanup in January?

On Call Plus appointments pause between December 26 and the third Friday in January while holiday trees are being collected. A voucher to take the items to the SMaRT Station is the alternative during that period, and holiday trees are collected free on the compost collection day for four weeks from December 26.Official guidance
