Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Have the fixture safely detached and any plumbing or electrical connections handled by an appropriate professional. We do not remove installed fixtures or perform demolition.

  2. Keep the booked items separate

Have the fixtures empty and ready at ground level. Keep them apart from rubble, loose renovation materials, tools and anything you want to keep.

  3. Show the outdoor handoff

Construction and renovation material

Special rules apply

Small renovation loads fit the Clean Up Day construction allowance of six boxes or bundles under 60 pounds each, and the larger route is a debris box from the hauler, which covers construction projects, deconstruction, remodels and property clean outs.

City cost & eligibility
The small construction allowance inside Clean Up Day carries no separate published fee, but the debris box service for a real project is quoted by the hauler rather than priced on the page. Confirm the box size, the source separated and mixed material rules and the price with GreenWaste of Palo Alto at (650) 493-4894.
When & how
Use the construction allowance on a scheduled Clean Up Day, or order a debris box for a project, which is delivered and collected on the hauler's own schedule.
Get it ready
Label the boxes or bundles construction and keep each one under 60 pounds and no larger than 2 feet by 3 feet, and keep treated wood waste out of the load entirely because it is not accepted. For a project, separate materials so the box matches the source separated or mixed requirement.

Clean Up Day items go out by 6 a.m. and no more than 24 hours early

Everything belongs at the curb next to the carts by 6 a.m. on the scheduled Clean Up Day and no earlier than 24 hours before the collection. Each category has to be labelled the way the programme asks, with reuse on reusable items and recycle, clothing, yard trimmings, garbage or construction on the matching boxes and bags, and every box or bundle stays under 60 pounds. Household batteries in a sealed clear bag go on top of the blue recycle cart, and lithium batteries are excluded.

City of Palo Alto Zero Waste with GreenWaste of Palo Alto

Use the two annual Clean Up Days

A single family household with furniture, mattresses, appliances, bagged junk, recyclables, yard trimmings or a small construction load that fits the published category limits.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Two pre-scheduled Clean Up Days a year for single family households on the Palo Alto refuse account, with no separate fee published and set category limits on each day.
Arrange it
Find the address's dates and rules with GreenWaste at (650) 493-4894 using the utility account number, then set everything at the curb by 6 a.m. on the scheduled day and no earlier than 24 hours before.

The programme runs on two fixed dates a year rather than on demand, the limits are per category, treated wood waste and lithium batteries are excluded, and electronics without embedded batteries have to go to a retailer instead.

With a new purchase

Order a debris box for a construction project

A household or contractor with a remodel, a deconstruction job or a property clean out that is larger than the Clean Up Day construction allowance.

Cost & conditions
The hauler publishes debris boxes in a variety of sizes for source separated and mixed materials but does not publish a price, so the box and the disposal have to be quoted through GreenWaste of Palo Alto at (650) 493-4894.
Arrange it
Contact GreenWaste of Palo Alto to choose the box size and the material stream, then have the box delivered and collected on the project schedule.

Treated wood waste is not accepted, and the box has to match either the source separated or the mixed material requirement rather than holding a mixture the hauler did not quote.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Palo Alto households mostly stay at the curb: bulky material rides one of the two pre-scheduled Clean Up Days each year, with caps of three bulky items at 200 pounds or less, three individual items under 60 pounds and 3 feet cubed, three bags of textiles, labelled recyclables, six bundles of yard trimmings, three bags of garbage and six boxes or bundles of construction material, all at the curb by 6 a.m. on the date and no more than 24 hours early. The one place that takes self hauled material is the household hazardous waste station at 2501 Embarcadero Way, open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the first Friday of the month from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., for residents with proof of residency and a 15 gallon or 125 pound limit per visit. That station takes batteries, paint, solvents, motor oil, automotive batteries, fluorescent bulbs, mercury waste and small electronics with embedded batteries, but it refuses televisions, monitors and microwaves, which the city routes to electronics retailers instead. A project bigger than the Clean Up Day construction allowance needs a debris box quoted by GreenWaste of Palo Alto at (650) 493-4894. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Palo Alto.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Palo Alto?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Palo Alto?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Can construction material go out on Clean Up Day?

Yes, in the construction category, which allows up to six boxes or bundles weighing under 60 pounds each and no larger than 2 feet by 3 feet, labelled construction and including material such as brick, dirt, concrete, fencing, sheetrock and plywood. Treated wood waste is not accepted, and anything bigger needs a debris box from the hauler.Official guidance

How do I find my Clean Up Day dates?

GreenWaste mails a postcard to each single family household twice a year, and the address's dates and item rules can be looked up with the utility account number and street address or by calling (650) 493-4894. Residents of multi-unit complexes without an individual city refuse bill have to arrange the day through their property manager.Official guidance

How much can I set out on Clean Up Day?

Up to three bulky items of 200 pounds or less each, up to three individual items under 60 pounds and no bigger than 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet, up to three 32 gallon bags of clothing and textiles, unlimited labelled recyclable boxes or bundles, up to six boxes or bundles of yard trimmings, up to three bags of garbage, and up to six boxes or bundles of construction material. Every box or bundle has to weigh under 60 pounds.Official guidance
