Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

Electronics and televisions

Accepted with preparation

Electronic waste is a published pickup option: a household may use five e-waste items as one of its bulky pickups, and the hauler's flyer counts up to five e-waste items as one bulky item. Televisions, laptops and microwaves cannot go to a Neighborhood Dumpster Day, and the city routes that material to the West County hazardous waste facility.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included in the up-to-three no-charge bulky pickups a year, where five e-waste items count as one pickup, and free to Richmond residents at the West County household hazardous waste drop-off.
When & how
Book the e-waste pickup with Republic Services at 510.262.7100 at least 10 workdays ahead, or take the devices to the West County household hazardous waste facility at 101 Pittsburg Ave or the El Cerrito Recycling Center.
Get it ready
Box small e-waste peripherals as the flyer requires, wipe personal data before handover, and keep electronics out of the dumpster days and the carts, because the city lists e-waste as prohibited at those events.

Pick one of the five published options for the pickup

Each on-call bulky pickup uses one of five options: up to fifteen 35 gallon bags with a 50 pound per bag maximum, four 95 gallon bags with the same maximum, five e-waste items, up to 1.8 cubic yards of uncontainerized garbage or organic waste, or, a maximum of once a year, a large item pickup of up to three large items. The hauler's flyer caps each item at 200 pounds, requires small e-waste peripherals to be boxed, and warns that anything beyond three bulky items carries an extra charge.

No charge. Up to three bulky waste pickups each calendar year at no charge for single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes and fourplexes. A pickup beyond the free allowance is scheduled for a fee.
Arrange it
Call Republic Services at 510.262.7100 at least 10 workdays before the collection day, choose one of the five published options, and set the material out for the next scheduled collection day.

Drop household hazardous waste for free

A household with paint, pesticides, batteries, electronics, fluorescent bulbs, oil, propane tanks, treated wood or another prohibited item.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Free to Richmond residents at the West County Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Richmond or the El Cerrito Recycling Center, with each visit limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle.
Arrange it
Drive to the West County facility at 101 Pittsburg Ave in Richmond, open Wednesday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a midday closure from noon to 12:30 PM, or to the El Cerrito Recycling Center, with identification or proof of residency.

The per-visit limit is 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle, so a larger load has to be split across visits, and the city lists the material it prohibits in the carts as the material for this route.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Richmond's household routes are the on-call bulky pickup and three county-style drop-offs. A household in a single-family home, duplex, triplex or fourplex can schedule up to three no-charge bulky pickups a year through Republic Services at 510.262.7100, choosing fifteen 35 gallon bags, four 95 gallon bags, five e-waste items, 1.8 cubic yards of loose waste, or a once-a-year large item pickup of up to three pieces, with every item capped at 200 pounds and construction, demolition and hazardous material refused. Everything the pickup refuses has a drop-off: household hazardous waste, batteries, electronics, paint, pesticides, oil, propane tanks, refrigerators and tires go free to the West County Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 101 Pittsburg Ave, open Wednesday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a midday closure and a 15 gallon or 125 pound per-vehicle limit, or to the El Cerrito Recycling Center, and up to three mattresses a month go free to that same Pittsburg Avenue address. Each Richmond neighborhood also gets a free dumpster day with postcards two to four weeks ahead, and a project load has no municipal route at all, so it needs a private container. Household hazardous waste facility that also takes mattresses and box springs free

West County Household Hazardous Waste Facility

101 Pittsburg Ave, Richmond, CA 94801

Household hazardous waste including paint, pesticides, batteries, electronics, fluorescent bulbs, oil, propane tanks, refrigerators and tires, with the city saying the facility takes most of the items it prohibits at the dumpster days, plus up to three mattresses or box springs a month.

Richmond residents with identification or proof of residency, limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds of material per vehicle and per visit. Mattresses must be whole and clean: cut, wet, damaged, partial or soiled units, units with bed bugs, car beds, water beds, fold-out sofa beds, futons, air mattresses, sleeping bags, pillows, mattress toppers and other furniture are refused.

Wednesday to Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, closed from noon to 12:30 PM.

No charge. Free to Richmond residents, including the mattress and box spring drop-off at up to three units a month.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Richmond.

How much does TV removal cost in Richmond?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Richmond?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

How do televisions and computers leave a Richmond household?

Through the bulky pickup, where five e-waste items count as one of the up-to-three no-charge pickups the city publishes, or at the free household hazardous waste drop-off at 101 Pittsburg Ave or the El Cerrito Recycling Center, which is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle. Electronics cannot go to a Neighborhood Dumpster Day, because the city lists e-waste among the prohibited items there.Official guidance

Who collects trash and bulky items in Richmond?

Republic Services, the city's hauler and the former Richmond Sanitary Service, runs the carts and the on-call bulky pickup and answers at 510.262.7100 for rates, billing, missed pickups and bulky item scheduling. The City of Richmond Public Works side runs the Neighborhood Dumpster Days and publishes the household hazardous waste and mattress drop-off routes.Official guidance

What can Richmond residents drop off for free?

Household hazardous waste is free at the West County Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 101 Pittsburg Ave or the El Cerrito Recycling Center, limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds per vehicle, and up to three mattresses a month are free at the Pittsburg Avenue facility for Richmond and neighbouring West Contra Costa residents. Each neighborhood also gets a free dumpster day, with postcards mailed two to four weeks ahead.Official guidance
