Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Construction and demolition debris

Special rules apply

The bulky collection refuses construction debris and names concrete and asphalt as well, so a renovation load goes to the Shoreway transfer station instead. The station publishes a per cubic yard rate for clean construction and demolition debris and a higher per ton rate for dirt and concrete, and it accepts mixed demolition debris as well.

City cost & eligibility
From $65 per cubic yard of clean construction and demolition debris, with the minimum charge per load equal to that yard rate, in the Shoreway transfer station schedule effective January 1, 2025, where dirt, concrete and like material are charged 157 per ton and clean wood 65.50 per yard. Any household or contractor self-hauling a load to the Shoreway transfer station at 333 Shoreway Road in San Carlos through Gate 1.
When & how
The transfer station is open Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day, with occasional public access closures posted in advance.
Get it ready
Separate clean construction debris from dirt, concrete and mixed waste to reach the published rate for each, keep treated wood and hazardous material out of the load because treated wood waste is refused at the Public Recycling Center and chemicals go to a county appointment, and check the current rate sheet at the gate.

The Public Recycling Center takes residential material free of charge, including electronics, batteries, cell phones, paint with original labels, used motor oil, antifreeze, oil filters, sharp containers, small appliances and up to six fluorescent tubes under six feet. It refuses furniture, garbage, gas cylinders, medium and large kitchen appliances, copy machines, Styrofoam, printer cartridges and treated wood waste, and those loads go to the transfer station at the same address, where they are weighed or measured and charged.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

San Mateo has no city dump, but the Shoreway Environmental Center in San Carlos is the local gate, entered through Gate 1 at 333 Shoreway Road. The Public Recycling Center takes residential material free of charge every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including electronics, batteries, cell phones, paint with original labels, used motor oil and filters, antifreeze, small appliances, scrap metal, sharps in a sealed container and up to six fluorescent tubes under six feet, and it refuses furniture, garbage, gas cylinders, medium and large kitchen appliances, copy machines, printer cartridges, Styrofoam and treated wood. Those loads go to the transfer station at the same address, which opens Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weighs or measures each load, charges garbage and clean construction debris by the cubic yard, charges dirt and concrete by the ton, prices appliances and mattresses by the item, and takes up to five residential mattresses free. Latex and oil based paint with original labels, up to 10 gallons, is free for households at the Public Recycling Center. Thinners, solvents, pesticides, aerosols including spray paint and propane tanks do not go to that counter; they go to a free county household hazardous waste appointment, which runs on a 10 gallon or 50 pound limit per appointment and refuses electronic waste and lithium-ion batteries larger than AA. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in San Mateo.

How much does construction debris removal cost in San Mateo?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in San Mateo?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Can construction debris go out with a San Mateo clean-up?

No. The hauler's bulky item page lists construction debris among the items it cannot accept, along with concrete and asphalt, and the city's twice yearly clean-up is for household bulky items. A renovation load goes to the Shoreway transfer station at 333 Shoreway Road, which accepts mixed demolition debris and publishes separate rates for clean construction debris, clean wood and dirt or concrete.Official guidance

Who collects trash and bulky items in San Mateo?

Recology San Mateo County is the city's garbage hauler and runs the bulky item and twice yearly clean-up service, with pick-ups scheduled through (650) 595-3900. The city's own special recycling page lists the hauler alongside the county environmental health contacts at (650) 372-6200 for hazardous waste, the police station medication drop box at 200 Franklin Parkway, and the Shoreway Environmental Center in San Carlos for self-haul trips.Official guidance

Can I take my own load to Shoreway in San Carlos?

Yes. The Public Recycling Center at 333 Shoreway Road takes residential material free every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., covering electronics, batteries, paint, used oil, antifreeze, small appliances, scrap metal and sharps. The transfer station at the same address, entered through Gate 1, takes mixed waste, clean green waste, appliances, tires, concrete, dirt and demolition debris Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., charging each load by volume, weight or item, with up to five residential mattresses free.Official guidance
