Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Athens removes bulky items, including major appliances and furniture, on request only through a Bulky Item Request. Bulky items and electronics must not be placed in the trash containers, and the hauler states that doing so may cause an interruption in service.
Los Angeles County runs a countywide mattress recycling program with the Mattress Recycling Council, and it lists several free options: the hauler bulky pickup, nearly twenty permanent mattress recycling collection centers, free county mattress collection events, and retailer take back that California law requires when a new mattress is delivered.
Furniture is named in the hauler's own bulky removal statement and in the county's description of the free bulky pickup, so a couch leaves on a requested bulky item collection rather than at the curb on a normal trash day.

Keep bulky items and electronics out of the carts, because the hauler states that a cart containing them may interrupt service, and keep automobile parts, construction and demolition debris, hazardous waste and loose building material out of the pile entirely.
