Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Construction and demolition debris

Special rules apply

Construction and demolition material cannot go in a cart or on a bulky item pickup. A covered project needs a recycling plan and either a limited franchise bin, a documented processing facility or a self haul.

City cost & eligibility
From $100 for the construction waste management plan review fee for a project under 50,000 square feet. The same review costs 360.00 for a project over 50,000 square feet, and missing weight tickets carry a non compliance penalty of 200.00 or 720.00. A temporary bin has one charge to rent the container plus a separate disposal charge based on a per ton gate or processing fee, and the city sets the maximum rate rather than a single figure, so ask each hauler for the current quote. Free landfill day takes concrete, dirt, asphalt and construction and demolition material at no charge for a resident who is an Athens customer.
When & how
Submit the Construction Waste Management Plan for approval and pay the review fee before the building permit is issued, then file weight tickets before final inspection. Order the bin from a limited franchise hauler, or plan the self haul, before the project starts generating debris.
Get it ready
Covered work has to divert at least 65 percent of construction and demolition waste from landfill under CALGreen and the city's Demolition Debris Recycling Ordinance, and that covers all new permitted construction, all permitted demolition, permitted residential additions and alterations, and non residential additions or alterations of 1,000 square feet or more or with a valuation of 200,000 or more. Only Athens Services, E.J. Harrison and Sons and Ware Disposal may provide bins, and a property owner or contractor may also self haul with its own vehicles and equipment. A mixed load should go to a processing facility that verifies at least 65 percent diversion, and the nearest mixed construction and demolition processing facility is about 10 miles northeast at the Simi Valley Landfill.

Athens Services, the City of Thousand Oaks franchise hauler

Order a temporary bin from a limited franchise hauler

A household or contractor with construction, demolition or clean up material that the carts and the large item collection refuse.

Cost & conditions
There is one charge to rent the container and a separate disposal charge based on a per ton gate or processing fee, and the city sets maximum rates rather than a single published figure, so ask Athens Services at 805-852-5264, E.J. Harrison and Sons at 805-647-1414 or Ware Disposal at 877-714-9273 for the current quote.
Arrange it
Order the bin before the project starts and arrange collection when the work is finished, or self haul the material with your own vehicles and equipment.

Temporary service means up to 30 days at one location per calendar year, or service tied to a valid city building or grading permit for a construction project, and only the three limited franchise haulers may place a bin in the city. Mixed loads should go to a facility that verifies at least 65 percent diversion.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

A Thousand Oaks household keeps most material inside the franchise system. The free route for large items is two collections a calendar year covering six items, scheduled with Athens Services at 805-852-5264, and a mattress, appliance, tire or piece of furniture goes out that way rather than in a cart. Household hazardous waste and electronic waste go to the city facility at 2010 Conejo Center Drive by appointment on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., free for a resident of Thousand Oaks or unincorporated Ventura County, and a free doorstep collection can be scheduled through Athens up to four times a year. Construction material needs a temporary bin from one of the three limited franchise haulers, a self haul with your own vehicles and equipment, or a load taken to a processing facility that verifies at least 65 percent diversion, and the nearest mixed facility is about 10 miles northeast at the Simi Valley Landfill. Twice a year the city also opens the Calabasas Landfill at 5300 Lost Hills Road in Agoura Hills from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for residents who are Athens customers, where a car or pickup load of trash, green waste, concrete, dirt, asphalt, bulky items or construction material is free, with up to five loose passenger tires allowed and tires on rims refused. Calabasas Landfill free landfill and recycling day

Non hazardous residential trash, green waste, concrete, dirt, asphalt, construction and demolition material, and bulky items such as sofas, water heaters and appliances, plus up to five passenger or pickup tires without rims.

Each resident may bring up to two loads per event in a vehicle no larger than a five passenger automobile or a pickup truck, every load has to be tarped, all loads are subject to inspection, and there is no late entry. Hazardous materials, electronic waste, fluorescent tubes and ballasts, liquids, medical waste, automobile bodies, radioactive material and tires on rims are refused, and the city warns of waits that can reach 90 minutes.

8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the published 2026 dates of March 28, June 20 and September 26, with arrival before 1 p.m. The event is subject to cancellation for weather, so the city asks residents to check for updates at AthensServices.com before going.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Thousand Oaks.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Thousand Oaks?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Thousand Oaks?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

How do I get rid of construction debris in Thousand Oaks?

Not in a cart and not on a bulky item pickup. Material from a construction, renovation or demolition project moves through a temporary bin from a limited franchise hauler, a self haul to a processing facility that can verify at least 65 percent diversion, or a free landfill day load for concrete, dirt, asphalt and mixed construction material.Official guidance

Does my project need a waste management plan?

Covered projects do. The city requires a Construction Waste Management Plan submitted for approval, and the review fee paid, before the permit is issued, with weight tickets filed before final inspection. The 65 percent diversion requirement covers all new permitted construction, all permitted demolition, residential additions and alterations, and larger non residential additions and alterations.Official guidance

Where does mixed construction debris go?

To a processing facility that can verify at least 65 percent diversion. The city does not name a required facility, but it points out that the nearest mixed construction and demolition processing facility is about 10 miles northeast at the Simi Valley Landfill, and it also accepts facilities certified by the Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation when the listed mixed construction rate is used for the diversion calculation.Official guidance

Who handles trash and recycling collection in Thousand Oaks?

Athens Services collects residential and commercial trash, recycling and organics under a franchise agreement with the city, and the rates are set by City Council. Athens customer care is at 805-852-5264, Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to noon, and the city Sustainability Division is at 805-449-7283 or gogreen@toaks.org.Official guidance

Does a holiday change my collection day?

Yes. Holidays create a one day delay in collection. Athens observes New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, and a holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday does not delay service.Official guidance

What happens at the household hazardous waste facility?

The city facility at 2010 Conejo Center Drive in Newbury Park takes paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, batteries, used oil, antifreeze, propane cylinders, fluorescent bulbs and electronics from residents of Thousand Oaks and unincorporated Ventura County on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. An appointment is required, online registration closes at 5 p.m. the day before, a load is limited to 15 gallons or 125 pounds, and Clean Harbors schedules appointments at 800-356-8570.Official guidance

What is free landfill day and who can use it?

The city opens the Calabasas Landfill at 5300 Lost Hills Road in Agoura Hills from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on published dates, which are March 28, June 20 and September 26 in 2026, for Thousand Oaks residents who are current Athens customers. A resident with identification may bring up to two loads of trash, green waste, concrete, dirt, asphalt, bulky items or construction material in a car or pickup, and up to five loose passenger tires, with no late entry and no commercial or landscaping loads.Official guidance

Do apartments and complexes with shared bins get the same service?

Multi family dwellings with individual carts are covered by the single family rate sheet and by the same two collections and six item large item allowance, but a complex with centralized bin service is billed under a separate multi family and mixed use rate schedule. Call Athens at 805-852-5264 to confirm what a shared bin property receives before setting anything out.Official guidance
