A plan for your pile

Finishing the project should include clearing the debris.

Mixed renovation material is hard to describe as one item. A photo-led quote gives you a specific plan for the pile left behind.

Your quote

A quote based on what is actually there.

Send a photo of the whole pile and a close-up of the material. Include its approximate size, your ZIP code and a view of the access.

Mixed or heavy project debris.

Request a quote for the actual materials and quantity. A generic debris-pile price cannot establish the scope of your project.

Already in contractor bags?

The separate contractor-bag item can cover carryable bags of debris at 50 lb or less each, with no dirt or gravel. Describe uncertain contents to our team before choosing it.

Unknown or hazardous material.

Flag unknown contents, chemicals and suspected hazardous materials in your request. A photo request is not acceptance of every material, and this service does not promise remediation or demolition.

Construction and demolition debris

Special rules apply

Construction and demolition debris is not collected curbside. Covered projects must divert at least 65% of their C&D debris from landfill, and the material goes to an approved sorting facility or the Yolo County Central Landfill.

City cost & eligibility
The City publishes a diversion requirement rather than a disposal rate. The approved sorting facilities and the landfill set their own charges, so confirm the rate when you call.
When & how
Take C&D material to Greenwaste at 4201 Florin Perkins Road in Sacramento, Sierra Waste at 8260 Berry Avenue in Sacramento, or the Yolo County Central Landfill at 44090 County Road 28H in Woodland. Call (916) 617-4590 to schedule a recycling sign-off appointment, or email Part 2 and the tickets to recycle@cityofwestsacramento.org.
Get it ready
Projects started after January 1, 2017 that are new construction, a demolition, or an addition that increases conditioned area submit Part 1 of the C&D Debris Recycling Plan with the building permit and Part 2 with the recycling and disposal documentation at the end. Load tickets must be stamped as sorted, or must list C&D or source-separated recycled material and its weight, for the load to count toward diversion.

Only a permitted hauler may be paid to take material to a landfill

Municipal Code Section 8.08.080 requires any individual or business that is paid to haul material from West Sacramento to a landfill to be a permitted hauler. The City publishes the hauling permit terms, an application, a reporting form and a fee schedule. The permit fee for businesses whose primary work is clean-up is calculated by the ton of solid waste collected.

Front load and roll-off ordering, right-of-way permit and permitted hauler requirement

A roll-off box in the street needs an encroachment permit

A debris or roll-off box can be ordered from any of the permitted haulers, but placing one in the City right-of-way requires an Encroachment Permit from the Development Engineering Division, with questions handled by the Sustainability Department at (916) 617-4590. Front load dumpsters are ordered directly from Waste Management at (800) 374-4778.
