Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Construction and demolition material

Special rules apply

Construction and demolition material is accepted at the transfer station with two published conditions: residents are charged for construction debris unless a copy of a valid building permit is presented, and asphalt roofing material is not accepted at all. Demolition material from a resident's own renovation, such as sheetrock, siding, plumbing fixtures and wood, is the category the city describes.

City cost & eligibility
From $30 for for a dump ticket covering a minivan or a pickup with a bed up to six feet, with a trailer, van or pickup up to eight feet at 45 dollars, a trailer of eight to twelve feet, a mason dump or a box truck up to ten feet at 60 dollars and a box truck up to sixteen feet at 80 dollars, bought in advance and paid by cash or check. Shelton residents with proof of residency, charged for construction debris unless a copy of the valid building permit for the work is presented. Only material generated in Shelton is accepted, and asphalt roofing is refused.
When & how
Buy the ticket at 41 Myrtle Street, open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and deliver the load to 866 River Road between 7 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
Get it ready
Bring the building permit copy when the job has one, keep asphalt roofing out of the load entirely, separate demolition material such as sheetrock, siding, plumbing fixtures and wood into its own load, and keep hazardous leftovers for the household hazardous waste collection day.

Proof of residency and a prepaid ticket come before the load

The transfer station at 866 River Road asks for proof of residency, which can be a valid Connecticut driver's licence, a current Shelton tax bill with a matching photo ID or a current utility bill with a matching photo ID. No waste generated outside Shelton is accepted, every vehicle is unloaded by hand, and scavenging is not allowed. The dump ticket is bought in advance at the Shelton Public Works and Highway Department, 41 Myrtle Street, open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and it is paid for by cash or check, with the price set by the vehicle and the size of the load.

What the station takes and what it will not

The accepted list covers air conditioners, appliances with refrigerator and freezer doors removed, auto and lead acid batteries, Christmas trees without lights or ornaments, flattened cardboard, dehumidifiers, electronics, furniture, gas grills, dried latex paint which may also go in the trash cart, lawn mowers, dry mattresses, metal and small appliances, play sets, propane gas tanks, tires off the rim up to four per residence a year, toys, brush and branches no longer than four feet and no more than 20 inches in diameter, and yard furniture, with free mulch for a resident who loads their own vehicle. Asphalt roofing material is not accepted, and hazardous waste items are saved for the collection day.

The automated carts have their own rules

Shelton collects only in the approved carts: the brown cart for trash, collected weekly, and the blue cart for single stream recycling, collected every other week, with the cart set out the night before, the arrow facing the street and the handle toward the house. Trash has to be in plastic bags and no plastic bags may go in the recycling cart, and an overloaded cart may not be collected at all. Paint, solvents, gasoline, soil, acids, oil, hot ashes, medical waste, exposed needles, sand and rocks are barred from the carts, with one exception the city prints: latex paint is non hazardous and may go in the trash cart once it is completely dried. Missed collections go to Interstate Waste Services at 203-929-5488 and cart problems to Public Works at 203-924-9277.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Shelton.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Shelton?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Shelton?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Does Shelton charge for construction debris?

Yes. The transfer station states that all residents are charged for construction debris unless a copy of a valid building permit is presented, and the charge is the dump ticket for the vehicle and load, bought in advance at the Public Works office, 41 Myrtle Street. Demolition material such as sheetrock, siding, plumbing fixtures and wood from a resident's own renovation is the category the city describes, and asphalt roofing material is not accepted at the station at all.Official guidance

Who collects trash in Shelton?

The city runs automated curbside collection with a brown trash cart collected weekly and a blue single stream recycling cart collected every other week, and Interstate Waste Services handles the route and missed pickups at 203-929-5488. Cart issues and household hazardous waste questions go to the Public Works Highways and Bridges Department at 203-924-9277, and the oversized items the carts will not take go to the city transfer station at 866 River Road with a prepaid dump ticket from the yard on Myrtle Street.Official guidance

How do I use the Shelton transfer station?

Buy the dump ticket first at the Public Works Highways and Bridges Department, 41 Myrtle Street, which is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and takes cash or check, then take the load to 866 River Road, open Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Bring proof of residency such as a valid Connecticut driver's licence or a current Shelton tax or utility bill with a matching photo ID, unload the vehicle by hand, and remember that material generated outside Shelton is refused and the ticket price depends on the vehicle and the load.Official guidance
