The local disposal guide

Will the city
take it?

Marco Island's collection service is run by Collier County on the island's own schedule: trash and recyclables are picked up between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Monday and Thursday, containers go out no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before, and they are back out of the right of way by 7 p.m. on the collection day. Furniture and bicycles go to the curb on the recycling collection day, while appliances, electronics, tires and vehicle batteries are specialty bulky items that need a call to the county at least 48 hours ahead. Yard waste rides the Thursday collection with a ten bundle limit, and the island's own Recycling Drop-Off Center on Chalmer Drive takes electronics, household bulk and yard waste behind the county landfill rates.

Televisions, computers and other electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are a county specialty bulky item that can be scheduled onto the Thursday pickup, and they are accepted free at the island drop-off center apart from the charge on a fourth or later television in one visit.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Collier County drop-off centers take electronics at no charge for residents, including televisions for the first three in a visit, with each television after the third charged per item. The curbside specialty bulky pickup is scheduled with the county at least 48 hours ahead and sits inside the annual curbside assessment, while the county fee schedule prices an extra pickup for move in or move out debris and rear door service separately, so confirm the item and the current schedule on 239-252-2380.
When & how
Book the curbside pickup with Collier County on 239-252-2380 at least 48 hours before the recycling collection day and put the items out on that day, or drop them at the Marco Island Recycling Drop-Off Center, 990 Chalmer Drive, open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except county holidays.
Get it ready
Remove batteries and take them to a drop-off center, wipe personal data or remove the drive before a computer leaves the house, and keep electronics out of the green garbage cart and the recycling cart. Leave the television count in mind, because the fourth and later televisions in one drop-off visit are charged per item.

Get it ready
Keep a bulky item at the curb no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before the Thursday pickup, keep the piece clear of the carts and the right of way, and empty or defrost an appliance before it goes out. Household bulk and yard waste loads at the drop-off center are capped at one cubic yard, and a larger load needs the landfill instead.

The curbside service has no published per item charge, and the drop-off limit is one cubic yard per visit.
When & how

Furniture, bicycles and other items too large for the cart go to the curb on the recycling collection day and should not exceed four feet or fifty pounds. Appliances, electronics, standard vehicle tires and vehicle batteries are specialty bulky waste: call Collier County on 239-252-2380 at least 48 hours before the recycling collection day, keep the item off the curb until the scheduled day because bulk items may not be placed out before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, and note that missing the call can draw a fine to the property owner.

Paper bags or paper grocery bags are the only bags accepted, personal containers may be no larger than 35 gallons and must weigh under 50 pounds with the material no more than twelve inches over the lid, branches must be bundled under four feet long and four inches thick, and the load is limited to ten bundles or containers.

What the island drop-off center will and will not take

The Marco Island Recycling Drop-Off Center at 990 Chalmer Drive is open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and observes county holidays. It takes electronics, household hazardous waste, batteries, bulbs, paints, oil, polystyrene, pressurized tanks, sharps and scrap metal, and it takes yard waste, household bulk and construction material at fifteen dollars per cubic yard with a one cubic yard maximum, but household hazardous waste does not belong in the carts and a bigger load has to go to the county landfill.

A Marco Island residence on the county collection route with furniture, yard waste, an appliance, electronics, tires or vehicle batteries to dispose of.

Cost & conditions
The county fee schedule for residential curbside customers puts municipal solid waste, recyclables, electronic materials, bulk and yard waste collection inside the annual curbside assessment, which includes an initial once weekly bulky item collection, and then prices two services outside it: extra pickup service for move in or move out debris at $105.40 plus $14.05 for each item of bulk waste or white goods in District I and $70.25 plus $7.03 per item in District II, and rear door service for a non handicapped customer at $63.24 per unit per month in District I and $84.30 in District II. Where do televisions and computers go on Marco Island?

Two ways. The county takes electronics as a specialty bulky item, scheduled on 239-252-2380 at least 48 hours before the recycling collection day, with computers, monitors, printers and televisions named among the items and the load placed at the curb on the collection day. Or take them to the island's Recycling Drop-Off Center at 990 Chalmer Drive, open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., where non-television electronics are free and the first three televisions in a visit are free with each later television charged per item. Batteries have to come out first and go to the drop-off center separately.Official guidance

How do I get rid of a couch or appliance on Marco Island?

Furniture and other ordinary bulky items go to the curb on the recycling collection day and should not exceed four feet or fifty pounds. An appliance is a specialty bulky item, so call Collier County on 239-252-2380 at least 48 hours before the recycling collection day to schedule it for the Thursday pickup, and do not put it out before 6 p.m. on Wednesday. A larger quantity, or anything you would rather haul yourself, can go to the island's Recycling Drop-Off Center at 990 Chalmer Drive for the per cubic yard rate, with a one cubic yard limit, or to the county landfill by weight.Official guidance

When is yard waste collected on Marco Island?

Yard waste and landscape debris is collected on Thursday, the same day as trash, recycling and bulky items, and it can go to the curb any time after 6 p.m. the evening before. Use paper yard waste bags or paper grocery bags rather than plastic, or personal containers of no more than 35 gallons weighing under 50 pounds, bundle branches under four feet long and four inches thick, and keep the load to ten bundles or containers. A live Christmas tree follows the same route once the decorations are off, with a tree over six feet cut in half.Official guidance

What does disposal cost on Marco Island?

The annual county curbside assessment covers municipal solid waste, recyclables, electronic materials, bulk and yard waste collection for a residential unit, including the initial once weekly bulky item collection, and the county fee schedule prices anything beyond that, such as an extra pickup for move in or move out debris and rear door service, so ask Collier County on 239-252-2380 which line applies to your address. The island drop-off center charges by the cubic yard for yard waste, household bulk and construction material within a one cubic yard limit, per item for each television after the first three in a visit, per item for refrigerant handling and per tire, while electronics other than televisions, batteries, bulbs, household hazardous waste, paint and oil are free. A larger load taken to the county landfill is charged by weight.Official guidance

Who do I call about collection on Marco Island?

Collier County runs the island's collection service and answers on 239-252-2380, with the county's public utilities customer service line also handling cart repairs and replacements; the city page names the same county number for a bulk item pickup on Thursdays. The island's Recycling Drop-Off Center is at 990 Chalmer Drive, and the county landfill for a larger load is at 3730 White Lake Boulevard in Naples.Official guidance
