Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Electronics and televisions

Special rules apply

Electronics are not named in the city's curbside list, and the city's refusal list does name batteries, so a television or computer has to be confirmed. Gwinnett County's hard-to-recycle events are the published county route.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no electronics rate and does not name the devices either way, so confirm the route with the City of Buford at 770-945-6761. Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management holds events through the year for hard-to-recycle items and can confirm whether a screen is accepted, at 770.822.7141 on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or by email.
When & how
Call the city first, and if the device is not a curbside or special pickup item, ask the county about its next hard-to-recycle event.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before handover, keep batteries and paint cans out of the load because the city names both as items it does not collect, and keep the device out of the garbage container.

If it cannot go out on the designated day, call City Hall

The city publishes one route for material that does not fit the normal schedule. When curbside trash cannot be placed at the curb on the designated day, the resident calls City Hall at 770-945-6761 for a special pickup or files the online citizen service request. That is also the number to use for anything the city does not name either way, including furniture, a mattress, an appliance, a television or an exercise machine, because none of those items appears in the curbside list or the refusal list.

What the Buford crews do not take

The city names the materials its Sanitation Department does not collect: tires, batteries, paint cans, rocks, dirt, brick, carpet and building materials, with residents referred to the county for disposal. Commercial and construction material is refused as well, including material produced by tree work, lawn maintenance or home repair and renovation, which the contractor or the property owner has to remove. Household garbage goes in a covered container with plastic liners on the designated pickup day for the address.

Use curbside collection or arrange a special pickup

A Buford household with yard waste, tree limbs, small junk from a garage or basement, or another large item that the city can confirm for pickup.

Cost & conditions
The city publishes no rate for curbside trash or for a special pickup on the pages read, so confirm the charge with the City of Buford at 770-945-6761 when the pickup is arranged.
Arrange it
Set curbside trash out by 7:00 a.m. on the designated pickup day or after 5:00 p.m. the day before, and call 770-945-6761 or file the online citizen service request when the material cannot go out then.

Tires, batteries, paint cans, rocks, dirt, brick, carpet and building materials are not collected, and no commercial or construction material is allowed at the curb.

Use the county hard-to-recycle events

A household with tires, batteries, paint cans or another item the city refuses and refers to the county.

Cost & conditions
Gwinnett County publishes that it holds events through the year for hard-to-recycle items but no rate for them on the page read, so confirm the next event and what it accepts with Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management at 770.822.7141.
Arrange it
Call 770.822.7141 on a weekday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or email the county solid waste office, to find the next hard-to-recycle event.

The county page read here publishes the programme and contact details rather than a facility address or an item list, so acceptance and hours have to be confirmed before a trip.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Buford publishes no transfer station, landfill or drop-off of its own, so self-haul means the county rather than the city. The city's own instruction for the material its crews refuse, which it lists as tires, batteries, paint cans, rocks, dirt, brick, carpet and building materials, is to visit the Gwinnett County solid waste programme, which states that it manages residential and business waste and recycling and holds events through the year for hard-to-recycle items, with contact at 770.822.7141 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or by email. That page publishes the programme and its contact details rather than a facility address or an item list, so the next event, its location and what it accepts all have to be confirmed with the county before a trip. Within the city limits the service is curbside: household garbage in a covered container with liners on the designated day, and yard waste, tree limbs and small junk items at the curb by 7 a.m. on the pickup day or after 5 p.m. the day before, with a special pickup arranged through City Hall at 770-945-6761 when the material cannot go out then.
