Boxes, bundles and bales are three different things.
A bundle is ten flattened boxes. A bale is mechanically compacted cardboard, securely strapped together and staged at an accessible loading dock.
Loose empty boxes.
Count each empty box as one item. Remove contents, plastic packing and foam. This choice is for the cardboard box itself.
Bundles of 10.
Flatten ten empty boxes and tie them into one bundle. Twenty-three boxes? Choose two ten-box bundles and three loose boxes. Count each box once.
Compacted bales.
Choose small for 50–150 lb, medium for 151–300 lb or large for 301–500 lb. Every bale must be securely bound and accessible from a loading dock. Unknown weight, no dock or over 500 lb? Ask our team first.

Cardboard is not in the city programme: since January 16, 2024 the city has accepted no recycling other than glass. Flattened boxes can go into a sorted load at the Hatch Pit, and a business cardboard container or baled pickup comes from Western Recycling.
City cost & eligibility
The Hatch Pit charges by vehicle and by whether the load is sorted, with a pickup or small trailer under eight feet at 10 dollars sorted and 50 dollars unsorted, and Western Recycling quotes its business cardboard container by location and frequency. When & how
The Hatch Pit at 3690 N Recycle Rd is open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in summer from the third Monday in April and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in winter from the Tuesday after Columbus Day, and it is closed on federal holidays. Western Recycling's office is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Get it ready
Break every box down flat, keep cardboard separate from the rest of the load if you want the sorted fee, and keep it out of the city cart, because the city takes only glass for recycling and mixed household waste belongs in the container.
Containers go out before seven with room around them
City containers go to the kerb before 7 a.m. on the collection day, as close to the kerb as possible and at least three feet from any obstruction such as a mailbox, tree, shrub, building overhang or utility pole, with at least 14 feet of clear space overhead. Empty containers come back in as soon as practical after collection, and the container has to stay with the address it was issued to.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

From $10 for sorted load fee for a pickup or small trailer under eight feet at the Hatch Pit, with the same load unsorted at 50 dollars and higher rates by vehicle size, as published effective September 1, 2025. Bonneville County loads, with out-of-county loads charged more, clean raw wood, tree limbs and branches that can be ground for reuse carrying no fee, and projects over five loads possibly diverted to another location.
Arrange it
Take the sorted load to 3690 N Recycle Rd during the open hours, Monday to Saturday, with the seasonal start times published by the county.
No asbestos, with abatement paperwork required for any demolition material, no household garbage, nothing containing fabric, no tires, no paint, no electronics and no grass clippings. Sorted loads must be separated into wood, cardboard, metal, inert material and construction debris to earn the lower fee.

Cost & conditions
$14 per month for residential curbside recycling, with additional residential containers at 7 dollars each per month and business service at 20 dollars a month with extra containers at 10 dollars each, billed quarterly. Residential and business customers in the Idaho Falls service area, on a 95 gallon rolling bin serviced every other week and usually on the same day as trash pickup.
Arrange it
The residential curbside bin takes mixed paper, number 1 and number 2 plastic bottles and tin and aluminum cans, not cardboard. Cardboard is arranged as a business service: a six yard frontload container for cardboard only, or a pickup for cardboard that the business bales itself.

How much does cardboard pickup cost?+
One empty box is $59 first and $5 additional. A bundle of 10 flattened boxes is $79 first and $20 additional. Small, medium and large compacted bales have separate weight-based choices shown above.
What are the cardboard bale weight limits?+
Small is 50–150 lb, medium is 151–300 lb and large is 301–500 lb. Each bale must stay securely bound and be ready at an accessible loading dock. Contact our team about unknown weights, larger bales or a location without dock access.
Can the boxes still have things inside?+
Empty-cardboard pricing covers the cardboard itself. Use Filled household box for boxed household contents. Remove plastic, foam and other packing materials from empty boxes before collection.
Can I put cardboard in my regular recycling instead?+
Check your local provider’s cardboard rules, including flattening, container limits and collection days. EPA recommends keeping paper products clean and dry. Dropcurb provides a separately booked pickup; a specific recycling facility or recycling outcome is not guaranteed by this booking.
Can I arrange same-day pickup?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Checkout shows the available dates for your address. Your booking is for a pickup day, rather than an exact arrival window. We send updates and photos after collection.
Where should I put my items?+
Use an accessible outdoor spot you are allowed to use, and follow the instructions in your confirmation. Keep sidewalks, entrances and vehicle access clear. You arrange any indoor carrying. For a loading dock or a short building access window, confirm the setup with our team before booking.
Where can I take cardboard in Idaho Falls?+
The city stopped accepting recycling other than glass on January 16, 2024, so cardboard is not part of the city programme. Flattened boxes are accepted at the Bonneville County Hatch Pit on N Recycle Rd inside a sorted load, where a sorted load pays the lower published rate and the same load unsorted pays more. Who runs sanitation in Idaho Falls?+
The City of Idaho Falls Sanitation Division, which is fully automated and serves more than 15,500 residential properties from its office at 380 Constitution Way. What happens to collection on a holiday?+
The city publishes a holiday collection schedule each year, and when a holiday falls on a collection day the route runs one day behind for the rest of that week. On Labor Day, Monday September 7, 2026, sanitation ran one day behind. The Bonneville County facilities keep their own closures, with the Transfer Station shut on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day and the Hatch Pit shut on all federal holidays.Official guidance
What does the city still recycle?+
Only glass. Since January 16, 2024 the city has been unable to accept recycling other than glass, and it keeps collection bins around the city with an interactive map.
