Yard debris, leaves and clippings

Accepted with preparation

Yard trimmings have their own allowance in the city code: grass, leaves, weeds and clippings no longer than four feet may go into cardboard cartons, baskets, boxes or strong plastic sacks that are securely closed, and the city will take those non-standard containers as long as each one stays under 50 pounds. The city also runs a curbside leaf collection each autumn.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Included with the city sanitation service for a household that follows the container rules, with no separate charge published for yard trimmings or the autumn leaf collection. Drop-off loads at the county sites carry their own fees, and the county publishes a 20 dollar per ton charge for commercial grass and leaf loads.
When & how
Yard material goes out with the regular collection day, with the containers at the kerb before 7 a.m. The autumn leaf collection is a separate programme, and the city's published leaf schedule at the time of this review still showed the 2025 season, so ask the division for the current dates.
Get it ready
Keep each sack, carton or basket closed, under 50 pounds, and free of trash, and keep branches cut to four feet or less. Do not put yard material in a black bag or mix it with household waste, because the city collects only its own containers and the closed non-standard containers the code allows.

Containers go out before seven with room around them

City containers go to the kerb before 7 a.m. on the collection day, as close to the kerb as possible and at least three feet from any obstruction such as a mailbox, tree, shrub, building overhang or utility pole, with at least 14 feet of clear space overhead. Empty containers come back in as soon as practical after collection, and the container has to stay with the address it was issued to.

Yard trimmings ride in closed containers under fifty pounds

Grass, leaves, weeds and clippings no longer than four feet may be placed in cardboard cartons, bushel baskets, boxes or strong plastic sacks that are securely closed, and the city collects those non-standard containers as long as each one weighs no more than 50 pounds. Every other material has to be inside a city-provided container, so bagged household trash beside the cart is not part of the service.
