Two views of the same room corner: a treadmill on the left, and a small desk and chair in its place on the right.
A new use for the same space, once the old machine is outside and gone.

Room for what comes next

Your space can have a new purpose.

A home office. Room for a guest. A little more floor to enjoy. When an old machine is in the way, a clear pickup plan makes the next step easier.

The room is changing.

Book the equipment you are ready to let go of, whether it is one exercise bike or several machines. See the total before making the plan.

A replacement is coming.

Check whether your retailer includes removal. If the old treadmill is still your responsibility, give it a pickup day of its own.

It is not making the move.

Settle the price online, arrange to have it outside, and follow the pickup through text updates and completion photos. One less thing to coordinate before the keys change hands.

Match the machine

The right choice covers the right equipment.

Choose by the type of equipment. A brand name does not mean a different item, but a walking pad and a full treadmill do.

Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?

Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.

An exercise bike, elliptical or rower

Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.

Weights, racks and benches

Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Plan the move outside before pickup day.

A machine can be too heavy or awkward for a solo move. Arrange suitable help for indoor carrying, stairs or any dismantling needed to reach the outdoor pickup spot.

A pickup day is not an exact arrival window. Tell us before booking about a shared loading area, restricted outdoor access or equipment whose size or setup you are unsure how to select.

Exercise equipment

Accepted with preparation

A treadmill is named in the county's accepted electronic waste list, which gives exercise equipment a published drop-off route.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. The county electronic waste program charges only for televisions and computer monitors, so a treadmill or a fan is accepted without a published per item charge as part of the residential program, which refuses business material.
When & how
Take the machine to the Columbus/Bartholomew Recycling Center on Mapleton Street during its Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. hours, or to the Bartholomew County Landfill during its weekday and Saturday hours.
Get it ready
Take the machine down as far as it will come apart so one person can handle the pieces, and keep it out of the curbside bulky pile unless the City confirms it, because the curbside limits cover furniture and appliances rather than exercise equipment.

Two sort recycling with cardboard separate from the commingled paper, plastics, metals and glass; residential electronic waste including computers, office equipment, small appliances and treadmills, with a flat charge for televisions and computer monitors; household hazardous waste through the Tox-Away program; scrap metal such as hangers, metal siding and satellite dishes; and U.S. flags for retirement.

From $20 per television or computer monitor under the residential electronics recycling program. The $20 charge applies to televisions and computer monitors, while the other accepted electronic items, the recycling drop off, the scrap metal and the household hazardous waste program carry no published per item charge. The site is for Bartholomew County residents only.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Exercise equipment removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Columbus.

How much does exercise equipment removal cost in Columbus?

A household treadmill is $159 as the first item and $85 additional. An elliptical is $159 first and $85 additional; an exercise bike is $119 first and $40 additional. Choose all your items to see the combined price. Loading, transportation and disposal are included, with any applicable sales tax shown before payment.

Can you pick up a treadmill or exercise bike today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the equipment outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; we book a day rather than an exact appointment time.

Will you dismantle my treadmill or carry it out of the basement?

Dropcurb pickup starts outside. Arrange indoor carrying, stairs and any dismantling needed to get your equipment out before pickup. Check the moving instructions for your exact model and arrange suitable help. We load and haul away the equipment from an accessible outdoor spot.

Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?

Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.

How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?

Enter the combined weight in pounds for your dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Booking rounds that total up to the next 10 lb unit: 25 lb uses three units. Stands, racks and benches are separate items and do not include the loose weights. Add each one that is going.

Will Columbus take a treadmill?

Yes, through the county rather than the curb. The Bartholomew County electronic waste list names treadmills under other appliances, accepted at the recycling center on Mapleton Street or the county landfill, with the flat charge applying only to televisions and computer monitors.Official guidance

How does the Columbus trash program work?

The City Sanitation Department runs an automated toter program, with trash and yard waste collected weekly and recycling every other week on the same trash day. Trash has to be bagged inside the toter, toters go out by 7 a.m. and come back within 24 hours, and anything that does not fit needs a special pickup request through the CurbCycle app or 812-376-2509.Official guidance

What is the fastest way to clear out a house in Columbus?

Set out up to two pieces of furniture, two appliances and 20 bags or boxes and request a curbside pickup, then use the county sites for the rest. Televisions and monitors go to the county program for a flat charge, refrigerant appliances and tires are charged by the unit at the landfill, household hazardous waste goes to Tox-Away, and a clean-out larger than the limits or any construction debris goes to a private hauler.Official guidance

How do I get a yard waste toter?

Sign up through the City's yard waste program online or by calling the Department of Public Works at 812-376-2509, and pay before the toter is delivered. The 2026 routes run from March 16 through December 11, and the City does not publish the toter price on the page read here, so ask when signing up.Official guidance

Where do tires go?

To the Bartholomew County Landfill, which charges per tire. Car and light truck tires are 3 dollars without a rim and 5 dollars with one, truck tires 19.5 inch and up are 14 dollars without a rim and 26 dollars with one, floaters are 22 and 36 dollars, and a farm tractor tire is 50 dollars.Official guidance

Can I get compost from the yard waste program?

Yes. Yard waste collected in the city program is composted at the Bartholomew County Yard Waste site, and residents can pick up compost at the Bartholomew County Recycling Center, either self serve or loaded for a fee. Households that skip the toter program can take yard waste to the compost site at the Department of Public Works, bringing their bags home after they are emptied.Official guidance
