Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and other electronics

Accepted with preparation

Televisions and monitors are refused in the curbside bulky collection and go to the Bartholomew County program, which charges a flat fee per television or monitor.

City cost & eligibility
$20 per television or computer monitor brought to the county Recycling Center or Landfill. The Bartholomew County district charges $20 for all televisions and computer monitors at either site, under its residential electronics recycling program, which is registered with Indiana's electronic waste program. Residential material only, with no business electronic waste accepted.
When & how
Take the devices to the Columbus/Bartholomew Recycling Center at 720 S. Mapleton Street, open Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or to the Bartholomew County Landfill at 811 E. CR 450 S., open Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the backside closing at 1:00 p.m. A projection television should go to the landfill because of space limits at the recycling center.
Get it ready
Keep televisions, monitors and screens out of the curbside bulky pile entirely, because the City names them as non-qualifying. Most items with a cord or computer related electronics are accepted, while items primarily of glass, ceramic or wood and any cannibalized item are refused.

Televisions, monitors and screens, carpeting, lumber, shingles, concrete, fencing, construction and remodeling debris, and clean-outs beyond 20 bags are refused, and a load like that is the property owner's responsibility through a private hauler.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

What is the fastest way to clear out a house in Columbus?

Set out up to two pieces of furniture, two appliances and 20 bags or boxes and request a curbside pickup, then use the county sites for the rest.
