Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Construction and demolition debris

Not on the regular city route

Construction material is banned from the Hammond cart, with cement, wood, roofing shingles, dirt, sod and branches all named on the city's list, and none of it appears on the county hazardous waste accepted list, so a project load has no published public route.

City cost & eligibility
No city or county rate covers household construction debris because neither programme accepts it, so a private hauler or container company quotes the load; the Street Department special pick-up line covers some banned items but the city does not promise construction material through it.
When & how
Arrange the container or haul privately, and keep the material away from the alley line in the meantime because the code enforcement office cites for improper piles.
Get it ready
Keep cement, wood, roofing shingles, dirt, sod and branches out of the cart and off the curb, separate clean concrete, wood and metal where a receiving site asks for it, and confirm the acceptance list before loading.

The banned list drives everything else

Human feces, brake fluid, animal carcasses, gasoline, cement, oil, wood, bleach, sand, ammonia, dirt, pool chemicals, sod, branches, oil based paint, roofing shingles, yard waste and miscellaneous junk are all banned from the green carts. The city says some of those items can be picked up by the Street Department through a special pick-up arranged at 853-6431 and that others can only be dropped at a Lake County hazardous waste drop-off between April and October.

With a new purchase

Arrange construction or commercial loads privately

A household with renovation debris, or a business or building of three or more apartments that needs a dumpster.

Cost & conditions
Neither the city nor the district publishes a construction rate, so a private hauler or container company quotes the load, and businesses and larger apartment buildings are required to hold their own private dumpster contract.
Arrange it
Contact a private hauler or container company, and for businesses or buildings of three or more apartments give the water department a copy of the service agreement so city billing stops.

Nothing in this category rides the city cart, and the city does not own dumpsters, so the arrangement is entirely private.

Open the sanitation department page

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Hammond collects through its own Sanitation Department at 601 Conkey Street rather than a private hauler. The cart takes kitchen garbage only, bagged in plastic, under 50 pounds, out the night before collection, and the city sells additional carts and replacement carts, with the current prices and the police case number rule confirmed at the sanitation office. Yard waste goes out in 30 gallon biodegradable paper bags on the same day between the first week of April and the last week of November and must contain only leaves, grass, plants or twigs. Everything else is banned from the cart, and the city's list reads like a warning: cement, wood, dirt, sod, branches, roofing shingles, gasoline, oil, brake fluid, ammonia, bleach, pool chemicals, oil based paint and miscellaneous junk. Two routes take that material. The Street Department can arrange a special pick-up by phone at 853-6431 for some banned items, and Lake County Solid Waste Management runs household hazardous waste collections across the county monthly from March through October for Lake County residents, including the Hammond collection at 601 Conkey St. on Saturday September 12 from 9am to 2pm, where antifreeze, fuels, batteries, oil based paint, propane, solvents and sharps are accepted while latex paint, asbestos and auto batteries are refused. Electronics and appliances move through separate district programmes for televisions, computers, fridges, microwaves and washers, and construction material has no public route at all, so renovation loads are arranged privately and businesses or buildings with three or more apartments must hold their own dumpster contract. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Hammond.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Hammond?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Hammond?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Will Hammond take construction debris?

No. Cement, wood, roofing shingles, dirt, sod and branches are all on the city's banned trash list, the carts are for kitchen garbage only, and none of that material appears on the Lake County household hazardous waste accepted list. A renovation load is therefore arranged privately, while the Street Department special pick-up line at 853-6431 covers some other banned items rather than construction material.Official guidance

What can never go in a Hammond cart?

Human feces, brake fluid, animal carcasses, gasoline, cement, oil, wood, bleach, sand, ammonia, dirt, pool chemicals, sod, branches, oil based paint, roofing shingles, yard waste and miscellaneous junk are all banned, because the city carts are for kitchen garbage only. Water based paint is the exception in reverse: once it is completely dried with no liquid left, it can go on the ground beside the can and be collected with the garbage.Official guidance
