Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are refused in the carts and accepted at the Recycle Ann Arbor Drop-Off Station, with a television priced by screen size.

City cost & eligibility
From $2 for the published Drop-Off Station electronics prices, which start with small items and rise by component and size, with a monitor charged per unit and a television charged at one dollar per diagonal screen inch, and the gate fee added. Residents and businesses bringing electronics to the Drop-Off Station, with the city pass waiving the gate fee for Ann Arbor residents and credit card the only accepted payment. Michigan law also requires free manufacturer take back programs for televisions, computers and printers.
When & how
Drop off during posted hours at the Drop-Off Station, since electronics are never collected in the trash cart or at the curb.
Get it ready
Delete personal data before handover, keep batteries out of the electronics load because alkaline, lithium and rechargeable batteries are refused at these sites, and separate cords, cables and small items so the gatehouse can price the load.

Large items do not go to the curb at all

The city states that large items such as furniture, mattresses and appliances left at the curb will not be collected and can draw a fine, and that televisions, computers and other electronics and appliances containing freon are not cart material either. Those loads go instead to the Recycle Ann Arbor Drop-Off Station on East Ellsworth Road or to the Recovery Yard on Jackson Road.

The city pass that waives the Drop-Off Station gate fee

Ann Arbor residents can apply online at the city stream portal for a pass that waives the three dollar gate entry fee at the Drop-Off Station, with proof of residency required and commercial users excluded. The pass covers the entry fee only, so the per item disposal charges for large items and hard-to-recycle materials still apply, and the site takes credit card only.

Washtenaw County cleanup day

A county resident with electronics, household hazardous waste, bulky waste, appliances or scrap tires who can wait for an event day.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

An Ann Arbor household that hauls its own material uses three gates. Recycle Ann Arbor runs the Drop-Off Station at 2950 East Ellsworth Road, open Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Friday and Saturday, where the per day gate fee covers traditional recycling and every large item, appliance, mattress, television, tire or piece of furniture is priced separately at the gatehouse, with credit card the only payment and the city pass waiving the gate fee for residents. The Recovery Yard at 7891 Jackson Road takes construction and demolition loads on weekdays, sorts concrete, clean wood and metal, charges by the yard and rents roll-off containers by the week. Household chemicals, paints, solvents, bulbs and batteries go to Washtenaw County instead, free to county residents with an appointment, at the weekday center in Northville or the Saturday Home Toxics collections on Zeeb Road, with medications and sharps pointed to a separate drug drop-off map. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Ann Arbor.

How much does TV removal cost in Ann Arbor?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Ann Arbor?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

How is a television priced?

A television is charged at one dollar per diagonal screen inch, and a monitor is charged at a flat per unit price, with other electronics and appliances priced from a few dollars each according to their component makeup. The per day gate fee also applies. A load that contains one of the materials on the hard-to-recycle list, such as motor oil, antifreeze, oil filters, vegetable oil, foam or plastic bags, also pays the published hard-to-recycle fee.Official guidance

Is there a free take back option for electronics?

Michigan's electronic take back law requires free and convenient manufacturer programs for televisions, computers and printers, and the city page lists the programs available in the Ann Arbor area alongside the drop-off route.Official guidance

How do the drop-off sites take payment?

Both Recycle Ann Arbor sites are credit card only, with no cash or checks, and the gatehouse assesses each load and takes payment before the material is unloaded. Bring help because the drop-off areas are self service.Official guidance
