Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Electronics and televisions

Accepted with preparation

The Materials Recovery Center takes electronics and prices them by device and by screen size. Small electronics and rechargeable batteries are free, most working devices carry a small per item fee, and televisions and monitors climb in three steps as the screen gets larger.

City cost & eligibility
From $2 for an item at the Materials Recovery Center, where small electronics and rechargeable batteries are free and the per item fees are $2 for a CPU, fax machine, printer, laptop, VCR, DVD or DVR player, tablet or automatic external defibrillator, $9 for a television or monitor 19 inches and smaller, $12 for a screen over 19 inches up to 40 inches, and $15 for a screen over 40 inches. Any household delivering its own electronics during Materials Recovery Center hours, with cash, check, Visa, Mastercard or Discover accepted; a business limit of five items a day applies and electronics retailers or repair centres are not eligible for that service.
When & how
Take the devices to the Materials Recovery Center at 4587 Ridgeview Rd., open Wednesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed Sunday through Tuesday, and check in at the gatehouse so the load can be assessed.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from any computer, laptop, tablet or phone before handover. Separate the rechargeable batteries, which are free, from the devices that carry a fee, keep electronics out of the household garbage stream the centre refuses, and note that the centre does not take leaves or yard waste, so a mixed load has to be sorted before it arrives.

Duluth has no city trash or large item route

The city does not collect household trash or recycling, and it publishes no curbside large item pickup. Residents contract a waste hauler, and most haulers in the region offer single stream recycling, so all recyclables can go in one bin with no separation. The regional authority still requires residents to keep aluminum, steel and tin containers, glass containers, magazines, newspaper, plastic containers, paper and corrugated cardboard separated for recycling within that stream.

Three drop-off sites carry the awkward material

The Materials Recovery Center on Ridgeview Road is the site for furniture, household junk, construction debris, mattresses, appliances, electronics, tires, scrap metal and recyclables. The Household Hazardous Waste Facility on Courtland Street takes paint, chemicals, batteries, bulbs and sharps free from Minnesota households. The Yard Waste Compost Site on the same Courtland Street site takes leaves, grass and garden plants free and charges by the yard for brush, logs, dirt and sod.

Stop at the gatehouse and unload it yourself

The Materials Recovery Center is self service, so the household unloads its own material. Visitors stop first at the gatehouse, where staff assess each load and calculate the fee, and then drive to the appropriate station for recycling, reuse or disposal. The Reuse Area opens only to people who have items to drop off, and it closes thirty minutes before the centre itself closes.

A household with furniture, household junk, a mattress, an appliance, electronics, construction or demolition material, tires or scrap metal to clear.

Cost & conditions
From $24 for a load at the Materials Recovery Center, where mixed waste covering household junk, broken furniture, old carpeting and construction material is billed at $24 per cubic yard and rises to $30 per cubic yard on October 1, 2026, pallets and clean wood at $10 per cubic yard, mattresses and box springs at $25 each, appliances and additional microwaves at $5 each with one microwave free daily, tires at $4 each after four free passenger or pickup tires daily, and electronics from free small items through $2, $9, $12 and $15 by device and screen size. Households and small commercial customers delivering their own loads during Materials Recovery Center hours, with cash, check, Visa, Mastercard or Discover accepted and the fee calculated at the gatehouse.
Arrange it
Drive to 4587 Ridgeview Rd. on a Wednesday through Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., stop at the gatehouse to have the load assessed and priced, then unload at the stations for each stream. The site is closed Sunday through Tuesday and on the listed holidays.

The site does not accept household garbage, household hazardous waste, or leaves and yard waste material, and the household does the unloading because the centre is self service. Business customers face separate pricing and daily limits, and appliance and electronics retailers or repair centres are not eligible for those residential services.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Duluth means one of three district sites, and the right one depends on the material. The Materials Recovery Center at 4587 Ridgeview Rd. is the main stop, open Wednesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed Sunday through Tuesday, and it takes furniture and household junk, mattresses and box springs, appliances, electronics, tires, scrap metal, construction and demolition material, household recyclables, food waste in compostable bags, film plastic, holiday lights and cords, CDs and DVDs, and small electric appliances. It is self service, so the household unloads its own load, and the fee is calculated at the gatehouse before unloading, with the mixed waste rate rising on October 1, 2026. Under the same roof in spirit, the Reuse Area is open only to people who are dropping material off, and a household may take up to two items daily at no charge. Household chemicals do not come here at all, because the centre refuses household hazardous waste; they go to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2626 Courtland Street, free for Minnesota households and for Superior residents inside the Wisconsin city limits, on Thursday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., where paint, batteries of every type, automotive fluids and filters, cleaners, pesticides, fluorescent bulbs and medical sharps are all accepted. The same Courtland Street address holds the Yard Waste Compost Site, open seasonally from about the third week in April through the Saturday before Thanksgiving, where leaves, grass and garden plants are free while brush, logs, dirt and sod are charged by the yard with logs cut to four feet and no root balls. The Reuse Area holds reusable items that staff approve, and bagged compost is sold when in stock.

Household garbage, household hazardous waste, and leaves or yard waste material are not accepted at all. The centre is self service, so the household unloads its own material, and the fee is assessed at the gatehouse. Mattresses and box springs should stay dry because they are recycled. Business pricing and daily limits differ from residential pricing, and appliance and electronics retailers or repair centres are not eligible for the residential appliance and electronics services. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Duluth.

How much does TV removal cost in Duluth?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Duluth?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do old televisions go in Duluth?

To the Materials Recovery Center at 4587 Ridgeview Rd., which prices televisions and monitors by screen size, with screens 19 inches and smaller at one price, screens over 19 inches up to 40 inches at a mid price, and screens over 40 inches at the highest of the three. Small electronics and rechargeable batteries are free there, and the centre is open Wednesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the fee taken at the gatehouse.Official guidance

Who picks up trash in Duluth?

The city does not collect household trash or recycling, so each household contracts a waste hauler. Most haulers in the region offer single stream recycling, which lets all recyclables go in one bin with no separation, and the regional authority still asks residents to keep aluminum, steel and tin containers, glass containers, magazines, newspaper, plastic containers, paper and corrugated cardboard separated within that stream. Everything too large for the bin goes to a district drop-off rather than to the curb.Official guidance

What can I take to the Materials Recovery Center?

Furniture and household junk, mixed construction and demolition material, clean concrete with no rebar or embedded material, pallets and clean wood, appliances, mattresses and box springs, electronics, tires, scrap metal, household recyclables on a three sort system, food waste in compostable bags, film plastic that is clean and dry, holiday lights and electrical cords, CDs and DVDs out of their cases, and small electric appliances. Household garbage, household hazardous waste, and leaves or yard waste are not accepted there.Official guidance

Are there fees at the Materials Recovery Center?

Some streams are free and others are charged by the yard or by the piece. Household recyclables on a three sort system, scrap metal, food waste in compostable bags, film plastic, holiday lights and cords, CDs and DVDs out of their cases, and small electric appliances are free, and one microwave is free each day along with four passenger or pickup tires and the small electronics and rechargeable batteries. Mixed waste, which covers household junk, broken furniture, old carpeting and construction debris, is charged by the cubic yard and that rate rises on October 1, 2026, while mattresses and box springs are charged per piece and appliances per piece.Official guidance
