A plan for your pile

Finishing the project should include clearing the debris.

Mixed renovation material is hard to describe as one item. A photo-led quote gives you a specific plan for the pile left behind.

Your quote

A quote based on what is actually there.

Send a photo of the whole pile and a close-up of the material. Include its approximate size, your ZIP code and a view of the access.

Mixed or heavy project debris.

Request a quote for the actual materials and quantity. A generic debris-pile price cannot establish the scope of your project.

Already in contractor bags?

The separate contractor-bag item can cover carryable bags of debris at 50 lb or less each, with no dirt or gravel. Describe uncertain contents to our team before choosing it.

Unknown or hazardous material.

Flag unknown contents, chemicals and suspected hazardous materials in your request. A photo request is not acceptance of every material, and this service does not promise remediation or demolition.

Building and project debris

Special rules apply

Small amounts of bundled or containerized construction and demolition debris can go out with a scheduled bulky pickup, and limited amounts are accepted at the transfer station. Large amounts and contractor volume are refused, so the packet keeps the boundary explicit.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Small amounts of bundled or containerized construction debris are part of the bulky pickup that the base monthly rate of $17.42 already covers, inside four cubic yards per visit and four visits a year. A load that needs the transfer station is billed there at a subsidized rate.
When & how
Bundle or containerize the material and book a bulky pickup with Republic Services at 800-431-1507, or take limited amounts to the transfer station on West 7th Street during operating hours.
Get it ready
Cut and bundle material so it can be handled by two people, keep drywall and shingles out of the rain, and separate treated wood and railroad ties, which the city refuses. Large volumes belong in a roll-off container from a private hauler instead.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Yard waste never goes in the trash cart

Missouri law keeps yard waste out of landfills, so grass clippings, leaves, weeds and small limbs may not be mixed into the trash cart. Residents can enroll with the hauler for biweekly yard waste collection in biodegradable bags and bundles, use a separate yard waste cart, or take material to the free compost facility on Eddy Lane.

City of Joplin Public Works with Republic Services

Scheduled bulky pickup with Republic Services

A single-family house or duplex inside the city limits with a mattress, couch, television, microwave, carpet or a small amount of bundled construction material that will not fit in the cart.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Bulky pickup is included in the base monthly solid waste rate of $17.42 that every household pays, with four pickups a year and four cubic yards per pickup. Extra carts cost $5.50 per month and optional curbside recycling costs $5.26 per month on the current page.
Arrange it
Call Republic Services at 800-431-1507 or use the municipality form to book each pickup, then set the items out on the day the hauler assigns. Regular trash day now takes only what fits inside the single cart.

Appliances, oils, lead acid batteries, railroad ties, liquid paint, tires, commercial waste and large amounts of construction or demolition debris are refused. Apartment complexes and commercial accounts are served by private haulers rather than this franchise service, so residents of shared buildings should confirm coverage with the building.

City of Joplin Public Works with Republic Services

Subsidized bulky drop-off at the transfer station

A Joplin household with a load too large for the four cubic yard curbside limit, including bulky items, brush, tree limbs, limited construction debris and up to five tires.

Cost & conditions
The city subsidizes this drop-off and splits the fee with the resident, but the resident share printed on the city's bulky item answer and on the recycling guide are different amounts for the same address, and the current page states only that a reduced cost applies. Confirm the current fee with the facility before you load.
Arrange it
Bring up to 2,000 pounds to 3700 W 7th Street Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Bring a copy of the sewer bill and a matching driver's license, since subsidized pricing is only for verified Joplin residents.

Liquids and chemicals, appliances, hazardous material, regular weekly trash, commercial waste, lead acid batteries and leaves or grass clippings are refused, and anything over 2,000 pounds is outside the subsidized program. Loads must come from a resident household rather than a business.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self haul in Joplin mostly means the Recycling Center at 1310 West A Street, which is open Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings. Household hazardous waste is free there for residents of McDonald, Newton, Jasper, Barton and Vernon counties, and anything that ran on a cord or battery can be dropped off, with a fee on televisions and computer monitors that is paid by check or money order. For bulky loads, Joplin residents can use the subsidized transfer station at 3700 West 7th Street, up to 2,000 pounds per trip, with a sewer bill and matching driver's license for the reduced rate and refusals that include appliances, liquids, chemicals, lead acid batteries and yard waste. Donations of building materials, appliances and home furnishings go to the Habitat ReStore on North Main Street during store hours. Appliances are not accepted at either city site, so a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner needs a scrap metal processor after the compressor is removed and the freon evacuated. Subsidized bulky item transfer station

GFL Joplin Transfer Station

3700 W 7th St, Joplin, MO 64801

Up to 2,000 pounds per trip of bulky items, including limited amounts of construction debris, furniture, brush, tree limbs and up to five tires

Joplin residential customers only, with a city subsidy that requires a copy of the sewer bill and a matching driver's license. Liquids and chemicals, appliances, hazardous material, regular weekly trash, commercial waste, lead acid batteries and leaves or grass clippings are not accepted, and loads over 2,000 pounds are outside the subsidized program. The published resident share differs between city pages, so confirm the fee and the load rules before you drive out.

Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., closed Sunday.

The city confirms a reduced cost through its subsidy but the resident shares published on two city pages disagree, so confirm the current fee for your vehicle and load with the facility before you arrive.

Donation drop-off for reusable goods

Joplin Area Habitat for Humanity ReStore

5201 North Main Street, Joplin, MO 64801

Donated construction materials such as lumber, doors, windows, cabinets, counters, fixtures, paint, plumbing and electrical supplies, plus household appliances and home furnishings, all sold to the public to fund Habitat home building

Donations are accepted from individuals and businesses during ReStore hours only, and the store decides what it can resell, so items need to be in reusable condition. Mattresses are not on the published donation list, and pickup can be arranged by calling the store in advance.

Donations are taken during ReStore hours, which the city guide lists as Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 417-782-SHOP to confirm the day and to schedule a pickup.

No charge. Donation is free to the donor and the store sells the material to fund Habitat builds. The store accepts what it can resell, so call ahead to confirm a specific item.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from your photo request to the pickup plan in Joplin.

Can I book a mixed debris pile online at one price?

Request a custom quote instead. Send photos of the materials, approximate pile dimensions, your ZIP code and access details. The team confirms the work and price before you commit.

What if my debris is already in contractor bags?

Each carryable contractor bag at 50 lb or less, containing no dirt or gravel, has its own catalog option. Do not use a bag count for an unbagged pile or unknown material. Text a photo if you are unsure.

Does pickup include demolition or removing installed materials?

No demolition or disconnection work is automatically included. Describe the current state and access in your quote request so the team can confirm the work it can arrange.

How much does construction debris removal cost?

This service uses a custom quote. Send photos, the approximate amount, your ZIP code and access details. Our team confirms the scope and price before booking; there is no fixed-price catalog item for this pile.

Can you collect it today?

Tell our team your preferred day when you request the quote. Timing depends on the material, amount and access, and is confirmed with your quote. Sending photos does not reserve same-day pickup.

Can construction debris go out with the trash?

Small amounts of bundled or containerized construction and demolition debris are on the accepted bulky item list. Large amounts, contractor volume, railroad ties and pressure treated wood are refused, so a remodeling load needs a roll-off container or a trip to the transfer station instead.Official guidance

What can I take to the Joplin transfer station?

Joplin residents can bring up to 2,000 pounds of bulky items, including limited amounts of construction debris, furniture, brush, tree limbs and tires, to the transfer station on West 7th Street at a reduced cost through a city subsidy. Bring the sewer bill and a matching driver's license, and expect liquids, chemicals, appliances and lead acid batteries to be refused.Official guidance

Does the city trash service cover apartments?

Residential collection runs for every single-family house, duplex and approved apartment house inside the city limits, while commercial and apartment complex trash is handled by private haulers. If you live in a shared building, confirm with the property manager whether the building is on the franchise service or a private contract.Official guidance

Where do paint, gasoline and other household chemicals go?

They go to the household hazardous waste drop-off at the Joplin Recycling Center on West A Street, which is free for residents of the five-county area and requires identification. Latex paint is the exception: solidify it with cat litter or sawdust, leave the lid off, and set it out with the trash.Official guidance

What do I do with a whole-house clean-out?

Start with the four scheduled bulky pickups a year, each limited to four cubic yards, and use the subsidized transfer station drop-off for anything larger, up to 2,000 pounds per trip. Loads beyond that need a roll-off container from a private hauler, since neither the curbside service nor the subsidy covers them.Official guidance
