Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Televisions and radios are on the city bulk item list and go out with the second collection day of the week. Computers, monitors, keyboards, printers and cell phones have their own route, the Environmental Service Center on University Boulevard.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Jackson residential addresses for televisions and radios set out on the bulky item day within the two item limit, where the city publishes no fee; electronics taken to the Environmental Service Center are accepted from residents with no disposal fee published, and that site's terms should be confirmed by phone.
When & how
For a television or radio, use the second collection day of the week with the other bulk items. For computers and small electronics, visit the Environmental Service Center at 1570 University Blvd, whose hours are not published on the city page.
Get it ready
Remove personal data from computers, phones and any storage device before disposal. Keep screens and monitors intact, keep cables with the device they belong to, and do not leave anything at the Environmental Service Center after hours.

Right item.
Right place.

Five holidays move collection to the next day

The regular collection day only changes when it falls on or after one of the five holidays the city observes: New Year's Day, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. When that happens, collection moves to the following collection day.

Construction, yard and chemical loads go somewhere else

Construction and demolition material, rubble and vegetation are not part of the curbside list and go to the city's rubbish disposal site in Byram, where loads are charged by the cubic yard. Household chemicals and electronics go to the Environmental Service Center on University Boulevard instead, and the city asks that nothing be left there after hours.

City of Jackson Solid Waste Division

Twice weekly city collection with a bulky item day

Jackson households in single family homes, duplexes and triplexes with furniture, mattresses, box springs, televisions, sofas, microwaves, stoves, toilets, limbs or bagged leaves.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Jackson residential addresses with water and sewer service established, collected twice a week by the city Solid Waste Division, with two bulk items and bagged leaves allowed on the second collection day and no bulky item fee published.
Arrange it
Place the material at the curb for the second collection day of the week, keeping the bulky load to two items and setting limbs and bagged leaves out with the same collection.

Household chemicals are refused, construction and demolition material belongs at the city landfill in Byram, and the separate appliance and tire programmes need a phone call before the scheduled Wednesday.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Jackson runs its own rubbish landfill, a Class I site at 6810 I-55 South Frontage Road in Byram. It takes construction and demolition material such as wood and metal, brick, mortar, concrete, stone and asphalt, natural vegetation including tree limbs, stumps and leaves, furniture, plastic, glass, crockery and metal other than containers, sawdust and wood chips, tires and metal appliances, with an appliance needing the motor removed first. Loads are charged by the cubic yard and tires by tire type, and the city provides mulch there free to citizens who bring a container and load it themselves. Household chemicals are handled separately at the Environmental Service Center on University Boulevard, which takes paints, oils, automotive, household and rechargeable batteries, computer and electronic equipment, four foot fluorescent bulbs and pesticides from residents. The city publishes no opening hours for either site, so call the division at 601-960-1193 before a first trip. Paints including indoor, outdoor, artist and automotive paint, driveway sealer, lacquers, mineral spirits, spray cans, stains, thinner, varnishes, caulks and adhesives, oils including gasoline, motor oil, cooking oil and antifreeze, automotive, household and rechargeable batteries, computers and monitors, keyboards and accessories, copiers and printers, cell phones and accessories, fluorescent light bulbs in the four foot length only, photographic chemicals and pesticides or insecticides.

Residents only. Do not leave accepted items after hours. Keep chemicals in their original tightly secured containers, do not mix products, wear gloves, keep products away from heat and never smoke around them, and pack leaking products in a larger plastic container with a non-flammable absorbent such as cat litter.

No opening hours are published on the city's household hazardous waste page, which asks residents not to leave items after hours. Call the Solid Waste Division at 601-960-1193 before a first visit.

The city publishes no fee for household hazardous waste or electronics drop-off at this site and describes it as a service for residents, so confirm the current terms at 601-960-1193 before a first trip.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Jackson.

How much does TV removal cost in Jackson?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Jackson?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Will Jackson take a television at the curb?

Yes. Televisions and radios are on the city's bulk item list and are collected on the second collection day of the week, counting toward the two bulk items a household may set out that day.Official guidance

Where do old computers and monitors go in Jackson?

To the Environmental Service Center at 1570 University Blvd, which accepts computers and monitors, keyboards and accessories, copiers and printers, and cell phones and accessories from residents. The division can be reached on 601-960-1193 or 601-960-0000, and non-emergency reporting runs through 311.Official guidance

Does Jackson still collect recycling at the curb?

No. The city suspended its curbside recycling programme effective September 1, 2019 and the suspension remains in place while the Public Works Department looks for alternatives. Residents who want to keep recycling are directed to certified haulers such as Environmentality Recycling Solutions, Allen Recycling or Tri-Miss Recycling, and they pay those businesses directly.Official guidance

Where do household chemicals go in Jackson?

Household hazardous products go to the Environmental Service Center at 1570 University Blvd, a permanent site that accepts paints, oils, gasoline, antifreeze, automotive, household and rechargeable batteries, computer and electronic equipment, four foot fluorescent bulbs, photographic chemicals and pesticides from residents.
