The project is done. Get your space back.

The new bathroom is ready, but the old vanity is still outside. A replaced door is taking up space you need. Put those leftover items on a pickup plan, with the price settled and updates through the final haul-away.

Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Construction and remodeling debris

Not on the regular city route

The Town refuses building material, lumber and wood, sheetrock, doors, concrete, dirt, rocks, railroad ties, roof shingles, pipes, non-metal sinks and fiberglass, so a project load never rides the bulky truck. Orange County takes limited residential construction and demolition waste instead, with a strict volume cap.

City cost & eligibility
The Town publishes no construction collection route or fee, so the county cap and a private hauler set the practical cost. Up to 60 cubic feet from the primary residence is free at the two full-service county centers, and anything larger is refused there and has to be quoted by a private hauler or container company.
When & how
Orange County Waste and Recycling Centers take residential construction and demolition material up to 60 cubic feet per household per day or weekend period at the two full-service centers, Eubanks Road in Chapel Hill and Walnut Grove Church Road in Hillsborough, and not at Bradshaw Quarry. Loads above the cap are refused in full with no partial unloading.
Get it ready
Keep the load to kitchen cabinets, insulation, carpet and flooring, wood including lumber, plywood and pressed board or painted, pressure treated or stained wood, doors, windows, siding, a deconstructed lumber playground set, decks and stairs. Scrap metal, corrugated cardboard and unpainted untreated solid sawn lumber have to be recycled in the proper bin instead, proof of residency is required before unloading, and hired contractors may not use the centers. A larger project needs a private container or hauler.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-hauling in Chapel Hill has two levels. The Town itself collects large items only on the paid bulky route, with a base fee for three items and a smaller charge for each extra item, booked through Public Works on 919-969-5100, and the published yes and no list decides what the crews will take. The free route is Orange County, where the Waste and Recycling Centers take household garbage, bulky items such as upholstered furniture, appliances, electronics, scrap metal, tires and recyclables from county residents at no charge, plus household hazardous waste and limited construction and demolition material at the two full-service centers. County rules are strict: residential use only, one visit per weekday and one per weekend, a ten minute visit, a pickup truck load of 120 cubic feet per day or weekend period and a 60 cubic foot cap on construction and demolition material, with proof of residency required and hired contractors barred. Salvage Sheds at the centers take clean, working items for reuse. Trash and Yard WasteWaste and Recycling CentersA-Z Waste and Recycling Guide

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Chapel Hill.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Chapel Hill?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Chapel Hill?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

What do I do with construction debris in Chapel Hill?

Not with the Town bulky collection, which refuses building material, lumber, sheetrock, doors, concrete, rocks, roof shingles and pipes. Orange County Waste and Recycling Centers take up to 60 cubic feet per household per day or weekend period from the primary residence at the Eubanks Road or Walnut Grove Church Road centers, with proof of residency and no contractor loads, and a larger project needs a private container or hauler.Official guidance

Where can I take items for free in Chapel Hill?

To an Orange County Waste and Recycling Center, where county residents can drop household garbage, bulky items such as upholstered furniture, appliances, electronics, scrap metal, tires and recyclables at no charge. When are trash and yard trimmings collected in Chapel Hill?

Trash runs once a week and yard trimmings run once a week on a different day: Monday trash with Thursday yard trimmings for the green service area, and Tuesday trash with Friday yard trimmings for the orange area. Both carts go behind the curb by 6 a.m. and come in by 7 p.m. on the collection day, and material that misses the 6 a.m. set-out waits for the next week.Official guidance
