When & how
The town's bulk days fall in February, May, August and November, while the county landfill is open Monday to Friday and on Saturday morning. Small appliances can go to the county electronics drop-off at the landfill or at most residential centers instead of waiting for a bulk day.
Get it ready
Empty the unit before it leaves the house, remove refrigerator and freezer doors, and drain fuel and oil from anything with a small engine. Microwaves, toasters, toaster ovens, blenders, mixers, fans, space heaters and vacuums are on the county's free electronics list, so those can go to a county site rather than the curb.
Refrigerators, freezers and window air conditioners are collected with the town's bulk pickup. Doors come off a refrigerator or freezer before it goes out, and central air conditioning or heating equipment is refused.

Get it ready
Remove the doors from a refrigerator or freezer, empty the unit, and keep central air conditioning and heating units out of the pile because the town refuses them. Only window air conditioning units belong in a bulk pile, so built-in or central equipment needs the county landfill or a private provider.
Bulk pickup runs four times a year on your recycling day
Bulk and e-waste pickup happens in February, May, August and November, on the regular recycling day for the address, and the colour week comes from the subdivision recycling list. Everything has to be curbside by 7 a.m. that day, nothing is scheduled in advance, and the town asks households to call 704-821-5401 within 48 hours if the truck misses the pile.
Bulky waste and e-waste arrive in separate trucks, so the two streams have to be separated at the curb and both kept at least three feet from the roll carts. A household may set out up to five bulk items, smaller loose items should be boxed or bagged for the driver, and bulk pickup never means extra bags of household trash.
Dismantle beds, bed frames and other large pieces, remove refrigerator and freezer doors, and empty every appliance. Drain gas and oil from lawn and garden equipment, take propane tanks off grills, cut carpet and linoleum into lengths of four feet or less, tape glass doors, windows and table inserts in an X, and separate a toilet into tank and bowl.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Closed on seven published holidays, and large loads of cardboard are only taken on weekdays. A load that is not secured is charged twice the normal fee. Hazardous chemicals, paint and gasoline are not taken at the landfill and wait for the county's annual household hazardous waste event.
Mattresses, furniture and other bulky items, bagged household garbage, construction and demolition waste, yard waste, used motor oil and antifreeze for residents with a five gallon limit, used oil filters, electronics, white goods such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, tires off the rim, scrap metal, household recycling and cardboard.
Tires have to be off the rim and every load has to be covered, because an unsecured load is charged twice the normal fee. Large loads of cardboard are only accepted on weekdays. The published per-load rates cover garbage, construction and demolition debris and yard waste, and the county prints no separate rate for mattresses, white goods, tires or scrap metal.
Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Closed New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Accepted recyclable material is free to county residents. Bagged garbage, construction and demolition debris and yard waste are charged by the load from a published starting rate for a car, pickup truck, SUV or van, with higher rates for trailers, flatbeds and box trucks.
