The local disposal guide
Zebulon collects its own routes through a contract with Green For Life. Trash goes out every Friday and recycling every other Friday, carts sit at the curb the night before, trash has to be bagged inside the cart while recycling has to stay loose, and a missed collection is fixed by leaving the cart out and calling Public Works by Monday at noon. Bulk waste is the town's oversized route: it runs every Friday except holidays with the pile out on Thursday night, needs no appointment, and takes large furniture, mattresses, carpet, appliances, lawn mowers and grills with the oil and gas removed, while the items that cannot go in a landfill, including electronics, batteries, hazardous waste, paint, tires and construction debris, are refused and sent to the Wake County convenience center on Wendell Boulevard. Yard waste and leaves are collected separately from the carts, with yard waste laid loosely behind the curb and never bagged and leaves in their own pile the same week, and the whole service is billed at a published monthly fee that itemizes trash, recycling, bulk waste and yard waste separately.

The handoff matters
Trash and recycling carts sit at the curb the night before the collection day, trash is bagged inside the cart while recyclables stay loose because bags damage the sorting machinery, and each residence should have a black or dark gray trash cart and a dark or bright green recycling cart. A missed collection is handled by leaving the cart at the curb and calling Public Works on (919) 269-5285 by Monday at noon, with voicemail answered over the weekend, and a missing or damaged cart is replaced through Public Works.

No appointment is needed, and the town is glad to give the driver a heads up to look for the items if the resident calls 919-269-5285.

Wake County residents may dispose of or recycle those items at no additional charge at the county convenience center at 5051 Wendell Boulevard, and the county's solid waste management page carries the hours and the accepted material.

Not necessarily. Zebulon's bulk-waste service and GFL cart service follow separate holiday schedules, so check both calendars and the latest town notice.Official guidance
Trash is collected every Friday and recycling every other Friday, and the carts go to the curb the night before. If a holiday affects the schedule the waste carts are collected on Saturday, and the town notes that the hauler follows its own holiday schedule and may collect on town observed holidays. If a collection is missed, leave the cart at the curb and call Public Works on (919) 269-5285 by Monday at noon, because voicemail is answered over the weekend.Official guidance
Bulk waste collection takes items that can go in the landfill but are too large for the trash cart, including large furniture, mattresses, carpet, appliances, lawn mowers and grills, with oil and gas removed. It runs every Friday except holidays with the pile at the curb on Thursday night, and no appointment is required, though Public Works is happy to alert the driver if you call 919-269-5285. Cardboard, glass, liquids, electronics, hazardous waste, paint, tires and construction debris are all refused and go to the Wake County convenience center instead.Official guidance
On the bulk waste route, because the town names appliances among the items too large for the trash cart that it collects every Friday except holidays with the pile out on Thursday night. There is no separate charge for the service, which is funded by the monthly solid waste fee and its itemized bulky waste component. Empty the unit and secure its doors first, and ask Public Works on 919-269-5285 whether a unit that holds refrigerant needs the refrigerant removed before it is set out, since the town publishes no refrigerant rule.Official guidance
Public Works collects yard waste and leaves biweekly, with the town divided into two zones serviced every other week, so the material goes on the right of way behind the curb by the Sunday night before the zone's collection week and the 2026 yard waste calendar and map give the exact weeks. Yard waste is collected separately from the trash and recycling carts and it goes loosely behind the curb, never in bags, away from parked cars, trees, shrubs, mailboxes, utility boxes and power lines. Twigs and limbs, hedge clippings, grass, hay and pine straw, pinecones, small logs and bushes all count as yard waste, while animal waste, trash, mulch bags, plastic trays, building materials, fences, poles, dirt, rocks and potted plants do not. Leaves are collected in the same weeks in their own pile behind the curb, free of sticks, rocks, pinecones and limbs, and the monthly solid waste fee includes a yard waste component rather than a separate collection charge.Official guidance
The Town of Zebulon Public Works Department runs the service and contracts with Green For Life for curbside trash and recycling collection from the town's two carts. Trash is collected every Friday and recycling every other Friday, and Public Works answers on 919-269-5285 from 450 E. Horton Street for a missed collection, a replacement cart or a question about what may go out. Items the town cannot place in the landfill go to the Wake County convenience center on Wendell Boulevard.Official guidance
The town bills a monthly solid waste fee that it itemizes into trash collection, recycling collection, a City of Raleigh billing fee, bulky waste collection and a yard waste fee, and that fee covers one 96 gallon trash cart collected weekly and one 96 gallon recycling cart collected every other week. Bulk waste and yard waste carry no separate invoice because they are inside that fee. The items the town refuses, including electronics, batteries, hazardous waste, paint, tires and construction debris, may be taken by county residents to the Wake County convenience center at no additional charge.Official guidance
The trash cart refuses yard waste, tires, construction debris, automobile fluids, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, lighter fluid and kerosene, paints, lacquers and polishes, and pesticides or herbicides, while the recycling cart refuses batteries, electronics, styrofoam, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, pizza boxes, plastic bags, food and shredded paper. Bulk waste is limited to items the landfill accepts, so electronics, batteries, hazardous waste, paint, tires and construction debris cannot go out that way either. Yard waste is never bagged and never goes in the trash cart, and leaves belong in their own pile behind the curb.Official guidance
