When & how
Drop items at the Nashua Recycling Center during open hours, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., over the scale. Cell phones, rechargeable batteries and mercury thermostats or thermometers go to the office front desk on weekdays, and printer cartridges go to Staples.

Erase stored data, keep power supplies with the device, keep rechargeable and lithium batteries out of the trash because the state bans them from landfills and incinerators, and use a retail battery collection box if a trip to the landfill does not fit.
The Four Hills Landfill and the Nashua Recycling Center share the site at 840 West Hollis Street, open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the scale shutting off 30 minutes before closing. A residential permit is bought at the scale house against the vehicle registration, electronics, tires, demolition debris and asbestos all go over the scale, and payment is by cash, check or card. Items the site refuses, including oil based paint, gasoline, cleaners, pesticides and pool chemicals, wait for a household hazardous waste collection day.

A Nashua household with electronics, an appliance, tires, renovation debris, brush, recyclables or a clean-out load that the curbside programme will not take.
Cost & conditions
$5 per vehicle per calendar year for the residential permit, with appliances, refrigerant appliances, scrap metal, recyclables, brush, soft yard waste and household trash at no charge, the first two electronic items each year free and later items charged each, the first four tires each year free and later tires charged each, and construction and demolition debris charged by the ton at the scale. Nashua residents who show the vehicle registration as proof of residency; the permit is waived for residents 65 and older, and commercial entities may use the center only under restrictions.
Arrange it
Buy the permit at the scale house, drive over the scale, and unload in the marked areas for electronics, appliances, tires, scrap metal and recyclables, with the yard waste, brush and construction and demolition areas on their own sides of the site. The site is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the scale shuts off 30 minutes before closing.
Oil based paint, gasoline, antifreeze, cleaners, pesticides, pool chemicals, sharps and medical waste are refused at the center, so those wait for a household hazardous waste collection day; latex paint must be dried solid and goes into the trash box; asbestos from a home needs pre-approval; and every electronics, tire and demolition load has to go over the scale.
Use a retail collection box for batteries and cartridges
A household with rechargeable or lithium batteries, a printer cartridge or a mercury device that does not need a trip over the landfill scale.

No charge. Retail collection boxes are free to use for the items each store accepts; the city landfill office also takes cell phones, rechargeable batteries and mercury thermostats or thermometers at its weekday front desk.
Arrange it
Take lithium and rechargeable batteries to a collection box at a store such as Staples, Best Buy or Batteries Plus, take printer ink and toner cartridges to Staples, and hand cell phones, rechargeable batteries and mercury devices to the front desk at the landfill office on a weekday.
Each store sets its own accepted list, so check before the trip. Lithium-ion batteries have been banned from New Hampshire landfills and incinerators since July 1, 2025, so they never go in the city cart, the recycling bin or a bag of household trash.
