The local disposal guide
North Tonawanda runs its own collection from the Department of Public Works at 758 Erie Avenue, and it splits large material from green material by week rather than by appointment. Bulk pickup runs in published weeks each month, caught on the regular garbage day, with the pile kept inside four cubic yards and boxed, bagged or bundled; branches and brush go the other way, collected during the non bulk weeks. Every week the crews also take two clear bags of lawn debris with the carts, and each fall two leaf rounds sweep the city street by street. The published restricted list is long, and it decides what the kerb will not take: concrete and bricks, construction and contractor debris, dirt and stone, roofing materials, fencing, windows, bathtubs, garage doors, hot tubs, trailers and truck parts. Tires and electronics are refused at the kerb but both have a home at the department itself, and household chemicals go to the Hazman drop off in Tonawanda.

North Tonawanda collects bulky household material in published weeks each month rather than by appointment, and the pile rides the regular garbage day. The limit is four cubic yards, stated as three feet by three feet by twelve feet.
Green material runs on the opposite rhythm to bulk: branches and brush are collected during the non bulk weeks, two clear bags of lawn debris go out with the carts every week, and two leaf rounds sweep the city each autumn.
Building material is written out of the kerbside service by name, and the city publishes no destination for it anywhere, so the route has to be confirmed rather than assumed.
Electronics are refused at the kerb, and the city takes them at its own garage instead, in partnership with the Niagara County Refuse Disposal District and the recycler Sunnking.
Tires are on the restricted list and are refused at the kerb, but the department takes them for a fee during business hours.
Household chemicals never go in a cart or a bulk pile. They go to the Hazman drop off in Tonawanda, paint has its own return route through PaintCare, and medicines have a police department drop box.
The recycling cart is collected every week with the garbage, and the published list is narrow enough to be worth knowing before the cart goes out.
