The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.
Flat-screen TVs
Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.
Tube TVs
An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.
TV stands and other electronics
The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

The city bulk page says electronics will not be accepted while the pricing sheet prints item prices for electronic waste and televisions, and a free electronics event runs once a year with registration.

Get it ready
Keep electronics out of the garbage, because New York State makes it illegal to put electronic waste in the trash, back up or erase personal data before handover, and keep televisions and devices separate from the garbage container.
Every bulk pickup has to be booked with Public Works at 518-270-4579 or through the online request, items cannot go out until after 6 p.m. the night before the confirmed pickup date, and an unscheduled or early set out draws a removal charge and a littering penalty under city code.
Household hazardous waste, batteries, used oil and filters, medical waste, industrial waste, sludge and gas, kerosene and fuel oil ashes are refused in the bulk program, and commercial rental properties, tax exempt properties and not for profit agencies cannot use the city bulk service at all and have to use a private contractor.

Schedule a city bulk trash pickup
An eligible Troy residential property with furniture, a mattress, an appliance, a carpet, a television or another oversized item.
Cost & conditions
$25 for the hauling fee for each haul of up to 2 cubic yards of bulk material, with the published item fees charged in addition. Troy properties eligible for the city bulk service, scheduled in advance through Public Works at 518-270-4579.
Arrange it
Call Public Works at 518-270-4579 or send the online request, then put the items out no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before the confirmed pickup date. Billing goes to the property owner through the Office of General Services at 518-279-7141.

Register for a city electronics or hazardous waste event
A Troy household with televisions, computers, appliances or hazardous products such as paint or pool chemicals.
Cost & conditions
No charge. The city lists electronics, appliances and paper or document shredding at no charge at its annual electronics recycling event, and paint is accepted free of charge year round at more than 200 PaintCare retail locations in New York State, while the household hazardous waste events require advance registration and publish no event fee.
Arrange it
Register in advance through the city for the household hazardous waste events held with Rensselaer County and the Town of Bethlehem, and check the city page for the next electronics recycling date, which is listed as to be announced.
Registration is required and post office boxes are not accepted, registrants get their time slot by email a week before the event, the electronics event runs once a year, and tire disposal at that event is priced separately from the electronics and appliance drop off.
