Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Remodeling, construction and demolition material

Special rules apply

Construction material is refused by the city in every form, from wood and plywood to plaster and tile, so a project load has no city route and moves through a private hauler or a reuse outlet.

City cost & eligibility
The city publishes no rate because it collects none of this material and states that construction materials of any kind are excluded from the large item program. A private hauler sets its own price for a container or a load, and ReStore accepts reusable building material for free, so confirm the price and the accepted list before the work starts.
When & how
Arrange a private hauler for the debris, and route anything reusable to ReStore during its own hours. Construction material must never be added to a city large item pile or set out with the refuse.
Get it ready
Separate material that is still usable, such as cabinets, windows, doors, trim, hardware, plumbing and flooring, because the city's reuse page names those for ReStore, and keep plaster, tile, lumber, plywood and other debris out of the refuse and the recycling. Hazardous material from a job is handled as hazardous waste rather than as debris.
City Bureau of Refuse page with the free large item pickup and its example list, the exclusions covering appliances, automotive items, electronic devices, hazardous waste and construction material, the instruction to call a private hauler for those, the phone number and online scheduling, the six digit confirmation number requirement, the two week scheduling lead time, the carpet cutting and glass boxing rules, the illegal dumping warning, the 24 hour set-out limit and the leaf collection windowCity recycling page with the appliance disposal company for a Freon unit at a fee that depends on the item, the two metal outlets for appliances without Freon, the ReStore reuse route for working appliances and reusable building material, the battery and motor oil drop-offs, the carpet in bags at the curb rule, the free computer drop-off through Goodwill and Dell Reconnect, and the hazardous waste referral to the Cochranton facility or the county events with the latex paint dry-out rule

The handoff matters

Right place.

Nothing goes out without a confirmation number

A large item is collected only when the resident schedules it on 814-870-1550 on a weekday between 08:30am and 04:30pm or through the online form for up to three items, and only after the six digit confirmation number arrives. The item goes curbside on the night of the scheduled collection, and setting anything out without a confirmation number or at another time is treated as illegal dumping and draws a citation.

Take a stripped appliance to a metal outlet or a working one to ReStore

A household with a metal appliance that has no refrigerant left, or a washer, dryer, refrigerator, stove or microwave that still works.

Cost & conditions
The metal outlets set their own terms and may pay for scrap or charge for handling, and ReStore accepts working appliances as a donation with no stated fee, so confirm the terms with the outlet that fits the item.
Arrange it
Deliver a working appliance to Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 4922 Pittsburgh Ave., or a stripped metal unit to Liberty Iron & Metal at 646 E. 18th St. or Lincoln Recycling at 1602 Selinger Ave., during their own hours.

A unit that still holds refrigerant is not scrap and belongs with the cooling appliance route, the outlets publish no fixed prices, and the load has to be manageable for a vehicle the household provides.

Call a private hauler for what the city refuses

A household with appliances, electronics, tires, construction debris or a project load that the city's large item program excludes.

Cost & conditions
A private hauler sets its own price for a collection or a container, and the city publishes no rate because it does not run this service. Tires, electronics and hazardous waste are the categories the city explicitly sends to a registered event or facility, so confirm both the price and the destination before booking.
Arrange it
Contact a private rubbish hauler, describe the load and arrange the collection or the container delivery on the company's schedule.

The city's program refuses appliances, automotive items, electronics, hazardous waste and construction material, none of those may be added to a large item pile, and hazardous waste still has to reach a registered collection event or facility rather than a general hauler.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-hauling in Erie splits by material. Household furniture goes out on the free city large item pickup, booked on 814-870-1550 with a confirmation number and set curbside on the night of the collection, with carpet in four foot rolls and any glass boxed and labelled. Everything the city refuses goes somewhere else: a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner goes to the appliance disposal service the city names on 1-888-GO-FREON for a fee that depends on the item, a metal appliance with no refrigerant goes to Liberty Iron & Metal on East 18th Street or Lincoln Recycling on Selinger Avenue, and a working appliance can be donated to ReStore on Pittsburgh Avenue. Televisions, computers and monitors go to an Erie County collection event with pre-registration and a charge by weight, or to a fee charging recycler, while Goodwill recycles computers free through Dell Reconnect. Batteries and motor oil have retail and metal recycler drop-offs inside the city, and hazardous waste goes to the county events or to the Cochranton facility. Reuse outlet for working appliances and building material

Habitat for Humanity ReStore

4922 Pittsburgh Ave., Erie, PA

Working washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves and microwaves for reuse, and reusable building material such as cabinets, windows, doors, paint, trim, hardware, plumbing and flooring.

A donation outlet rather than a disposal site, so the store decides what it can resell and the city page asks residents to call for hours and the materials accepted that day. Nothing that the city refuses as hazardous waste or construction debris becomes acceptable here just by being dropped off.

Not published on the city page; call 814-464-8946 for current hours and accepted material.

No charge. Donations of reusable material are accepted at no stated charge, and the store's own terms govern what it takes. A working appliance is the intended donation rather than a broken one.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Erie.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Erie?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Erie?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Where does construction debris go in Erie?

To a private hauler, because the city refuses construction materials of any kind in its large item program and gives no city route for them. Material that can be reused, such as cabinets, windows, doors, trim, hardware, plumbing and flooring, can be taken to Habitat for Humanity ReStore on Pittsburgh Avenue.Official guidance

What will the city not take at all?

Appliances, automotive items such as batteries and tires, electronic devices including televisions, computers and monitors, household hazardous waste, and construction materials of any kind. The city tells residents with those items to call a private hauler, and states that tires, electronics and hazardous waste have to be recycled at a registered collection event or facility instead.Official guidance
