Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and monitors

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are refused in the city's large item pile and cannot be landfilled under Pennsylvania law, so the route is a collection event or a recycler. The county runs hazardous and electronic waste collections around the county with pre-registration, and computers have a free drop-off through Goodwill.

City cost & eligibility
From $0.5 per pound of electronics at an Erie County household hazardous and electronic waste collection, with the same per pound rate applying to chemicals and a higher per pound rate for propane cylinders. Erie County residents, with pre-registration required on 412-567-6566 or through the recycler's drive-through scheduling page. Free alternatives are the Goodwill and Dell Reconnect computer drop-off, limited Best Buy acceptance and Staples for computer-related items with a seven item per person limit, and fee alternatives are Lincoln Recycling and ProWaste.
When & how
Register for the next county collection, which runs on Saturday mornings and typically from 9am to noon, or use one of the year-round drop-offs. The 2026 county dates include October 17 at the Summit Township Municipal Garage and November 14 at the Greene Township Building.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before handover, keep the device whole, and call ahead for one of the fee charging recyclers because they take televisions and monitors that the free retail routes refuse. The city states plainly that televisions, computers, laptops, monitors, keyboards, printers and speakers cannot go in the large item pile.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Nothing goes out without a confirmation number

A large item is collected only when the resident schedules it on 814-870-1550 on a weekday between 08:30am and 04:30pm or through the online form for up to three items, and only after the six digit confirmation number arrives. The item goes curbside on the night of the scheduled collection, and setting anything out without a confirmation number or at another time is treated as illegal dumping and draws a citation.

City of Erie Bureau of Refuse with the Erie County Recycling Program

Register for a county hazardous and electronic waste collection

An Erie County household with a television, a monitor, a computer, chemicals, paint or a propane cylinder that the city will not take.

Cost & conditions
From $0.5 per pound of electronics or chemicals at an Erie County collection event, with propane cylinders charged at a higher per pound rate. Erie County residents, with pre-registration required on 412-567-6566 or through the recycler's drive-through scheduling page. Events run on Saturday mornings and typically from 9am to noon.
Arrange it
Register online or by phone, then drive through on the event date at the posted location. The 2026 dates include October 17 at the Summit Township Municipal Garage and November 14 at the Greene Township Building.

Everything is charged by weight, so a heavy load costs more, and pre-registration is required rather than optional. Televisions and monitors cannot go to the free retail computer routes, and the city's own event listing carries 2021 dates, so the county schedule is the current one.

Call a private hauler for what the city refuses

A household with appliances, electronics, tires, construction debris or a project load that the city's large item program excludes.

Cost & conditions
A private hauler sets its own price for a collection or a container, and the city publishes no rate because it does not run this service. Tires, electronics and hazardous waste are the categories the city explicitly sends to a registered event or facility, so confirm both the price and the destination before booking.
Arrange it
Contact a private rubbish hauler, describe the load and arrange the collection or the container delivery on the company's schedule.

The city's program refuses appliances, automotive items, electronics, hazardous waste and construction material, none of those may be added to a large item pile, and hazardous waste still has to reach a registered collection event or facility rather than a general hauler.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Self-hauling in Erie splits by material. Household furniture goes out on the free city large item pickup, booked on 814-870-1550 with a confirmation number and set curbside on the night of the collection, with carpet in four foot rolls and any glass boxed and labelled. Everything the city refuses goes somewhere else: a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner goes to the appliance disposal service the city names on 1-888-GO-FREON for a fee that depends on the item, a metal appliance with no refrigerant goes to Liberty Iron & Metal on East 18th Street or Lincoln Recycling on Selinger Avenue, and a working appliance can be donated to ReStore on Pittsburgh Avenue. Televisions, computers and monitors go to an Erie County collection event with pre-registration and a charge by weight, or to a fee charging recycler, while Goodwill recycles computers free through Dell Reconnect. Batteries and motor oil have retail and metal recycler drop-offs inside the city, and hazardous waste goes to the county events or to the Cochranton facility. City Bureau of Refuse page with the free large item pickup and its example list, the exclusions covering appliances, automotive items, electronic devices, hazardous waste and construction material, the instruction to call a private hauler for those, the phone number and online scheduling, the six digit confirmation number requirement, the two week scheduling lead time, the carpet cutting and glass boxing rules, the illegal dumping warning, the 24 hour set-out limit and the leaf collection windowCity recycling page with the appliance disposal company for a Freon unit at a fee that depends on the item, the two metal outlets for appliances without Freon, the ReStore reuse route for working appliances and reusable building material, the battery and motor oil drop-offs, the carpet in bags at the curb rule, the free computer drop-off through Goodwill and Dell Reconnect, and the hazardous waste referral to the Cochranton facility or the county events with the latex paint dry-out ruleErie County Recycling Program page with the county contact details, the household hazardous and electronic waste collection events operated by a specialty recycler with the per pound fees for electronics and chemicals and the higher per pound fee for propane cylinders, the pre-registration requirement and phone number, the 2026 event dates and locations, the curbside accepted and refused recycling lists, the glass drop-off network, the recycling drop-off locations and the free and fee based electronics options including the manufacturer responsibility law

Metal and electronics recycler inside the city

Lincoln Recycling

1602 Selinger Ave., Erie, PA

Scrap metal including appliances without refrigerant, motor oil, batteries, and some electronics including computer monitors and televisions.

A private recycler rather than a city site, so its own accepted list and fees govern. The county states that fees apply for electronics such as monitors and televisions, and the city lists the outlet for metal appliances with no Freon, so a charged cooling unit is not the right load for this address.

Not published on the city or county pages; call 814-838-7628 for current hours, accepted items and fees.

The city and county pages name the outlet without publishing its rates, and the county says fees apply for electronics while scrap metal may be paid for, so confirm the terms by phone before loading.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Erie.

How much does TV removal cost in Erie?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Erie?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where can an Erie television go?

To an Erie County household hazardous and electronic waste collection, which takes electronics by weight with pre-registration required on 412-567-6566, or to a fee charging recycler such as Lincoln Recycling on Selinger Avenue or ProWaste on East 18th Street. Goodwill's free Dell Reconnect drop-off covers computers rather than televisions, and Staples does not take televisions either.Official guidance

What will the city not take at all?

Appliances, automotive items such as batteries and tires, electronic devices including televisions, computers and monitors, household hazardous waste, and construction materials of any kind. The city tells residents with those items to call a private hauler, and states that tires, electronics and hazardous waste have to be recycled at a registered collection event or facility instead.Official guidance

How do the county collection events work?

Erie County sponsors household hazardous and electronic waste collections operated by a specialty recycler, open to county residents, with electronics and chemicals charged by weight and propane cylinders charged at a higher rate. Pre-registration is required on 412-567-6566, the events run on Saturday mornings and typically from 9am to noon, and the 2026 schedule includes October 17 at the Summit Township Municipal Garage and November 14 at the Greene Township Building.Official guidance
