The local disposal guide
Phoenixville runs its own sanitation crews and collects bulk items on Mondays by appointment, priced by how big the piece is, with metal and appliances picked up for no charge on the same schedule once they are booked. The borough's own item list sorts furniture and household goods into small, medium and large, singles out a sectional sofa and a wooden shed for a quote, and requires a mattress or box spring to be bagged before it goes out. Yard waste runs on a separate programme that the borough bought with a state recycling grant: one free brown-lidded toter per household or paper bags with the address printed on them, collected every other week from April into October on the normal trash day, with the compost site on South 2nd Avenue open through the season, and leaves then get their own fall collection from November into December.

Call the borough at 610-933-8801 and pay in advance over the phone, then put the item out for the Monday collection. The booking deadline is noon on the previous Thursday, or earlier if the slots fill, and the price depends on size: a small item carries one price, a medium item a higher one and a large item the highest. Book a Monday bulk pickup with the borough by noon on the previous Thursday, pay the large item price in advance, and seal the mattress and box spring in mattress bags, because the borough requires every mattress and box spring to be bagged by the resident. A mattress of any size is on the borough's large item list.Official guidance
No. The borough collects metal items at no charge from residents, and its own list runs from bicycles and bed frames to dishwashers, dryers, exercise bikes, treadmills, stoves and washers. The pickup still has to be scheduled in advance on the Monday route with the same Thursday noon deadline, mowers and snow blowers have to be drained of fluids, swing sets and trampolines have to be dismantled, and an appliance that held refrigerant needs the refrigerant removed and a certification sticker before collection.Official guidance
The borough gives each household one free brown-lidded 65 gallon yard waste toter on a first come first served basis, and households without one use biodegradable paper bags with the address printed on them. The borough compost site on South 2nd Avenue is open through the season as well.Official guidance

No refund is issued if the paid items are taken by someone other than borough staff before the scheduled pickup.Official guidance
Grass clippings, leaves and small branches only, because the toter is yard waste only and no trash is allowed. Soil, sand, sod, chemically or pressure treated wood, rocks, stones, concrete, brick and wood over twelve inches in diameter are refused, and the toter itself is free with one issued per household on a first come first served basis.
