Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

  1. Arrange any unmounting first.

Dropcurb does not remove TVs from walls or do indoor carrying. Arrange the help you need before pickup day, including the trip down interior stairs or through an elevator.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

  3. Show us the TV that is going.

Add a location photo and access notes after booking. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. For exposed broken glass or unusual damage, send a photo and check with us before booking.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Screens and computers are not a curbside item. The city runs registered electronics recycling events that are free to residents, and the state law requires manufacturers to run recycling programmes that accept the same device types.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free to City of Scranton residents at the city's electronics recycling events, which require registration. Also free through a manufacturer programme under the state Covered Device Recycling Act, whose collection sites may be used by small businesses with fewer than 50 employees, and through the retailers and centres the city lists such as Best Buy.
When & how
Register on the city recycling page when an event is announced; the published example ran from 9 a.m. to noon at the Public Works headquarters, 101 W Poplar St. Otherwise use a manufacturer programme collection site or a retailer from the city list during its own hours.
Get it ready
Remove ink, toner cartridges and paper from a printer before handover, and wipe personal data from computers and drives. Keep televisions, monitors, computers and cords out of the garbage and the recycling, and keep batteries, bulbs and chemicals with the household chemical route instead.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Everything goes out on the regular refuse day, not before

Garbage and commingled recycling are collected on the same weekly route, and material should go to the curb no earlier than the night before the scheduled pickup. A weekday holiday pushes every collection that week one day later. Missed garbage goes to the Public Works dispatcher at 570-348-4178.

Chemicals, bulbs and batteries never go in the cart

Household hazardous waste is not a curbside item. Lackawanna County runs a collection on Saturday October 31, 2026 at the Pavilion at Montage Mountain, 1000 Montage Mountain Road, open to county residents only with pre-registration required. Accepted material includes oil based paint, stains, thinners, solvents, poisons, pool and lawn treatments, automotive fluids with a per container limit, batteries other than electric vehicle batteries, fire extinguishers, fluorescent bulbs, propane tanks and liquid mercury, and latex paint is not accepted. Paint can also be dried out with kitty litter and then bagged.

City of Scranton Bureau of Refuse and Recycling with Lackawanna County

City electronics recycling event

A city household with televisions, monitors, computers, laptops or peripheral devices to recycle.

Cost & conditions
No charge. Free to City of Scranton residents at the city's electronics recycling events with registration, and free through manufacturer programme collection sites under the state Covered Device Recycling Act.
Arrange it
Register on the city recycling page when an event is announced. The published example ran from 9 a.m. to noon at the Department of Public Works headquarters, 101 W Poplar St, and the city held two events in that year.

Events run a small number of times a year and require registration, and no 2026 date was posted when this guide was written. Printers must arrive with ink, toner cartridges and paper removed, and the events take the covered device types rather than any electronic item.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Scranton routes the awkward material to businesses and programmes rather than to a bulky appointment. Household garbage and commingled recycling go out weekly, with a one day delay after a weekday holiday, and larger household items go out with the same collection only when the truck has room and only if they contain no metal. Appliances are the clearest example of what that means: the city refuses metal bearing items at the curb and lists a scrap yard in Scranton plus a utility appliance programme instead, and the utility pickup is free for working refrigerators, freezers, mini fridges, room air conditioners and dehumidifiers with an active account at the address. Screens and computers go to the city's registered electronics recycling events or to a manufacturer programme collection site under state law. Household chemicals, bulbs, batteries and propane wait for the Lackawanna County collection at Montage Mountain, which needs pre-registration and is open to county residents only. Construction debris has no public route at all and needs a private container before the work starts. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Scranton.

How much does TV removal cost in Scranton?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Scranton?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where do Scranton televisions and computers go?

To one of the city's electronics recycling events, which are free to residents but require registration, or through a manufacturer programme under the state Covered Device Recycling Act, or through a retailer or centre the city lists such as Best Buy. The last published event took CRT televisions and monitors, desktop computers, flat screens, laptops, and peripherals including printers with ink, toner and paper removed, plus mice and keyboards. The city can be reached at recycle@scrantonpa.gov.Official guidance
