Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Construction and remodeling debris

Not on the regular city route

Building materials are refused on the borough bulk route, and only clean untreated wood has a county drop-off, with everything else priced across the refuse scales.

City cost & eligibility
From $45 per ton for clean, untreated wood, timber, pallets, yard trim and brush at the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority's wood recycling programme, which carries a $10.00 minimum charge, with mixed refuse priced across the same scales at $87.00 a ton over 560 pounds and a $25.00 minimum for a load up to that weight. Self-haul to the Transfer Station on Transfer Road; painted, stained or treated wood, railroad ties, landscape ties and furniture are refused by the wood programme, and the borough bulk route refuses building materials outright.
When & how
Take clean wood to the Transfer Station Monday to Saturday 8am to 4pm through the scale house, and expect a mixed refuse load to be weighed instead, since the wood programme only accepts clean material.
Get it ready
Separate clean untreated wood and pallets from painted, stained or treated pieces, cut stumps so no piece is larger than 24 inches in diameter, and keep the load out of the borough bulk pile entirely, because building materials are on the refused list.

One cart, one day, refuse, organics and recycling together

State College residential refuse runs Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday depending on the address, with the day set when the account is opened through the Borough Finance Department. Refuse, organics and the red-bin recycling all come on the same collection day, the cart goes to the curb by 7 a.m. with the lid closed and three feet of clearance from trees, signs and other carts, and anything that does not fit goes beside the Borough cart in a container. Loose or fine waste such as ashes, plastic wrap, pet hair, kitty litter, tissues and packing peanuts has to be bagged, while larger items such as pizza boxes and lumber scraps can go straight in the cart. Carts come back off the street the same day, and residents who leave them out are subject to a fine.

What the borough will not take, and where it goes instead

Building materials, tree limbs and any part of a bulk load that weighs over 40 pounds or is too large to handle are refused. Limbs can go to the Borough Recycling and Compost Facility, building materials to the Centre County authority, and both cost money. Tires are not collected either: they may go to the Centre County Transfer Station at cost, or to the Borough Maintenance Facility by prior arrangement on 234-7135, and the borough will remove them at cost only if no private arrangement can be made. Electronics cannot be disposed of as refuse at all and must reach the county authority, which takes covered devices free.

Borough of State College Public Works with the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority

Take clean wood to the county wood programme

A household with clean untreated wood, timber, pallets, yard trim, brush, stumps or empty cable spools after a project or a storm.

Cost & conditions
From $45 per ton at the wood recycling programme, with a $10.00 minimum charge. Self-haul to the Transfer Station on Transfer Road Monday to Saturday 8am to 4pm through the scale house.
Arrange it
Load only clean, untreated material and go to the scale house, where the load is weighed before it is tipped at the wood programme.

Painted, stained or treated wood, railroad ties, landscape ties and furniture are refused, and any mixed refuse load is priced across the general refuse scales instead.

With a new purchase

Arrange a private haul for what the borough refuses

A household or landlord with building material, a load over the bulk limits, tires or a quantity of debris beyond the three item appointment.

Cost & conditions
The borough publishes no private hauling rate and charges only by arrangement for its own excessive load removals, so the price depends on the hauler, the material and the volume. Ask for a quote and confirm the destination before the load leaves the property.
Arrange it
Book a licensed hauler directly, or call the borough on 814-234-7135 to discuss a charged removal if no private arrangement can be made.

Nothing about a hauler load changes the borough's refusal of building materials and tires at the curb, and a hauler load still has to reach a permitted site.

Self hauling in State College means the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority Transfer Station at 253 Transfer Road in Bellefonte. Appliances go in free: air conditioners, dehumidifiers, washers and dryers, dishwashers, metal pots and pans, furnaces and heaters, water heaters, refrigerators and freezers, stoves, ovens, microwaves and helium tanks, as long as the load has no propane bottles, fuel tanks, drums, barrels, paint cans, tar buckets, insulated pipe or hazardous scrap. Covered electronics, which include televisions, desktop computers, monitors, laptops and peripherals, are also free and go to the scale house through Gate 1, Monday to Saturday 8am to 4pm. Clean untreated wood, timber, pallets, yard trim, brush, stumps up to 24 inches across and empty cable spools are taken at the wood programme, where painted or treated wood, railroad ties, landscape ties and furniture are refused. Refuse is weighed: a load up to 560 pounds costs a minimum, and heavier loads are pro-rated by the ton. Tires are weighed the same way for residents, with a higher commercial rate, an added charge for tires 44 inches or larger and a much higher rate for dirty tires. Recyclables are charged by the ton inside the gate, but the residential recyclables drop-off outside the gate is free. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in State College.

How much does construction debris removal cost in State College?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in State College?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Can construction debris go out with the trash in State College?

No. Building materials are on the borough's not collected list for bulk refuse, alongside tree limbs and anything over 40 pounds. Clean untreated wood and pallets do have a route: the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority accepts clean wood, timber, pallets, yard trim, brush, stumps up to 24 inches across and empty cable spools at its wood programme for a per ton charge with a minimum, while painted or treated wood, railroad ties, landscape ties and furniture are refused there.Official guidance

What about tires and construction wood?

Neither goes in the borough bulk pile. Tires are refused at the curb and go to the county Transfer Station, where resident loads are charged a minimum up to 560 pounds and pro-rated by the ton above that, commercial quantities cost more, tires 44 inches or larger add a per tire charge and dirty tires carry the highest tonnage rate. Clean untreated wood, pallets, yard trim and brush have their own programme at the same site for a per ton charge with a minimum, while painted or treated wood, railroad ties, landscape ties and furniture are refused.Official guidance
