Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

  1. Arrange any unmounting first.

Dropcurb does not remove TVs from walls or do indoor carrying. Arrange the help you need before pickup day, including the trip down interior stairs or through an elevator.

  2. Choose a permitted outdoor spot.

Use a stable, accessible location with a clear path for loading. Keep the TV separate from anything staying. Check building rules before placing it in a shared pickup area.

  3. Show us the TV that is going.

Add a location photo and access notes after booking. Follow the readiness instructions in your confirmation. For exposed broken glass or unusual damage, send a photo and check with us before booking.

Televisions

Accepted with preparation

Televisions are free to drop at any York County Collection & Recycling Center, and Public Works will also take one on the regular collection day for a fee applied to the utility bill.

City cost & eligibility
The city states that televisions can be disposed of free by dropping them at any York County Collection & Recycling Center, while a curbside pickup on the regular collection day carries a fee applied to the utility bill without a published amount. Confirm the curbside charge at 803-325-2500, or use the free county drop-off.
When & how
Drop the television at a county Collection & Recycling Center, open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed Wednesday and Sunday, or call 803-325-2500 to schedule a curbside pickup.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data from anything that powers on, keep the screen out of the green garbage cart and the blue recycling bin, and protect the panel in transport. Do not add a television to a free bulky set-out, because the city treats televisions as a service charge item.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

Request the bulky pickup before it goes out

Rock Hill needs a service request by noon the business day before the pickup day for bulky household items, and by noon the business day before the trash collection day for appliances and metal items. Requests go through the city's online service request or 803-325-2500. The weekly limit of three bulky items no longer applies, but excessive amounts of bulky items incur a service fee, and televisions, computers and tires are treated as service charge items.

Respect the county daily load limits

York County Collection & Recycling Centers serve county residents only, with daily limits of one 4x6 truck bed of household garbage or bulky material, half a truck bed of construction and demolition material with no concrete, brick or block, two mattresses or pallets, and four tires. Centers are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed Wednesday and Sunday, and the county publishes its holiday closures.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Rock Hill households keep most large items on the city route: a service request by noon the business day before collection covers bulky furnishings at no service charge, and a request by noon the business day before trash day covers appliances and metal. Televisions, computers and tires are the exception on that route, since the city treats them as service charge items, while they are free to drop at any of York County's sixteen Collection & Recycling Centers, which also take mattresses, small construction loads and bulky material within daily limits. Renovation material beyond a small curbside amount goes to the county landfill or into a Dial-A-Dumpster container charged each time it is emptied. Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?
