Construction debris is not eligible as residential bulk waste. Contractors haul their own waste, and the routes are the privately owned Madison County Landfill at 550 Aaron Long Road, which sets its own disposal costs on inquiry, or one of the roll-off and debris removal companies the City lists for residents and contractors.

When & how
Schedule every pickup in advance with the Department of Health and Sanitation. Bulk waste goes out no more than forty-eight hours early, yard waste no more than seven days early, and the whole load must fit within five feet high, eight feet long and five feet wide.
Get it ready
Keep bulk waste and yard waste in separate pickups, keep household refuse out of both, cut yard waste limbs to eight feet or less and twelve inches or less in diameter, and note that the regular weekly service handles anything that fits the cart or a hand pile of three feet high by five feet long by three feet wide, or ten bags of fifty pounds or less.
Every bulk waste or bulk yard waste pickup has to be pre-scheduled with the Department of Health and Sanitation at 731-425-8545. Residents get two collection days a week on either a Monday and Thursday or a Tuesday and Friday route, with the cart at the curb by 7 a.m. Anything that fits the cart, or a hand pile of three feet high by five feet long by three feet wide, or ten bags of fifty pounds each, is handled on the regular route rather than as a bulk pickup.
No liquids, flammable material or hazardous waste is picked up, and those items are held for the City's annual household hazardous waste collection events. The department answers questions about those events at 731-425-8545.
Household refuse cannot be mixed into a bulk load, bulk waste and bulk yard waste cannot share one pickup, and construction debris or contractor waste is never part of the program at all. Mixed loads risk being left behind.
The Jackson Recycling Center at 74B Conalco Drive takes cardboard and paperboard broken down, mixed paper, metals and plastics numbered one and two, with black plastics refused. Residents sort their own material, attendants check for contamination, and the center is free to residents.
