Flattened empty cardboard boxes tied into a bundle

One less thing to work around

Unpacked. Settled in. Still surrounded by boxes?

Choose with confidence

Boxes, bundles and bales are three different things.

A bundle is ten flattened boxes. A bale is mechanically compacted cardboard, securely strapped together and staged at an accessible loading dock.

Loose empty boxes.

Count each empty box as one item. Remove contents, plastic packing and foam. This choice is for the cardboard box itself.

Bundles of 10.

Flatten ten empty boxes and tie them into one bundle. Twenty-three boxes? Choose two ten-box bundles and three loose boxes. Count each box once.

Compacted bales.

Choose small for 50–150 lb, medium for 151–300 lb or large for 301–500 lb. Every bale must be securely bound and accessible from a loading dock. Unknown weight, no dock or over 500 lb? Ask our team first.

Ready for pickup

A little prep. A simpler pickup.

Choose your items now, then get them ready for your selected pickup day.

A tied stack of flattened boxes is a bundle, not a bale. Do not choose a bale based only on how large it looks.

Your place. One easy pickup plan.

A house, a condo or an apartment. Choose an accessible outdoor spot that works for your property. You arrange the move outside; we take it from there.

Text us about your setup
  1. Empty and separate.

Remove the contents and packing material. Set aside filled household boxes and add them as separate items if they are also going.

  2. Count boxes or confirm bale weight.

Tie each ten-box bundle together. For compacted bales, use the actual weight to choose the correct option.

  3. Prepare the right access.

Loose boxes and bundles need an accessible outdoor spot. Bales need a loading dock; keep them securely bound and tell us about dock access before pickup.

Cardboard and paper

Not on the regular city route

Cardboard is not collected at the curb, and the city landfill cannot accept cardboard or paper products.

City cost & eligibility
There is no curbside cardboard collection in Kingsport, so nothing is charged at the curb. City convenience centers take cardboard and mixed paper at no published fee.
When & how
Take it to a city recycling convenience center, where cardboard and mixed paper are accepted during open hours.
Get it ready
Flatten and dry the boxes. Do not pack trash into boxes for the curb, because crews leave trash that is set out in cardboard.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

What must stay out of the pile

Batteries, paint and paint products, butane and gas tanks, dead animals, hazardous liquids or materials, infectious materials and cardboard are not collected at the curb. Dried paint may go in the garbage cart, and wet paint should be dried with cat litter first. Used motor oil goes back to the retailer that sold it.

No items may be dropped outside published hours, the debris dumpster takes no more than a truck load and no garbage, and plastics number 3 are never accepted.

Convenience center locations

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Kingsport's landfill at 1921 Brookside Lane is a demolition landfill for wood, metal, construction material, shingles, glass, furniture, block and brick, with a Sullivan County transfer station on the same site. City addresses may dump up to 12,000 pounds a year with no tipping fee using a driver license or current water bill as proof of address, and nine convenience centers take paper, cardboard, cans, glass and plastics. Televisions, monitors and laptops leave the city system for a Sullivan County transfer station, and household hazardous waste is collected once a year by Sullivan County Solid Waste and the State of Tennessee. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Cardboard pickup, from choosing your item to pickup day in Kingsport.

How much does cardboard pickup cost?

One empty box is $59 first and $5 additional. A bundle of 10 flattened boxes is $79 first and $20 additional. Small, medium and large compacted bales have separate weight-based choices shown above.

What are the cardboard bale weight limits?

Small is 50–150 lb, medium is 151–300 lb and large is 301–500 lb. Each bale must stay securely bound and be ready at an accessible loading dock. Contact our team about unknown weights, larger bales or a location without dock access.

Can the boxes still have things inside?

Empty-cardboard pricing covers the cardboard itself. Use Filled household box for boxed household contents. Remove plastic, foam and other packing materials from empty boxes before collection.

Can I put cardboard in my regular recycling instead?

Check your local provider’s cardboard rules, including flattening, container limits and collection days. EPA recommends keeping paper products clean and dry. Dropcurb provides a separately booked pickup; a specific recycling facility or recycling outcome is not guaranteed by this booking.

Can I arrange same-day pickup?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Checkout shows the available dates for your address. Your booking is for a pickup day, rather than an exact arrival window. We send updates and photos after collection.

Where should I put my items?

Use an accessible outdoor spot you are allowed to use, and follow the instructions in your confirmation. Keep sidewalks, entrances and vehicle access clear. You arrange any indoor carrying. For a loading dock or a short building access window, confirm the setup with our team before booking.

Why is cardboard not collected at the curb?

Kingsport leaves cardboard out of curbside collection and out of the landfill, which cannot accept cardboard or paper. The city directs residents to the recycling convenience centers, where cardboard and mixed paper are part of the accepted stream.Official guidance

What will Kingsport not pick up at the curb?

Batteries, paint and paint products, butane and gas tanks, dead animals, hazardous liquids or materials, infectious materials and cardboard stay out of the pile. Contractor-generated waste is refused as well, and televisions, monitors and laptops are not taken at the curb or at the city landfill.Official guidance

Where do I take items the city will not collect?

Electronics go to a Sullivan County transfer station, and household hazardous waste waits for the county's annual collection day, which residents can confirm on (423) 323-6439. Tires beyond the four allowed at the curb go to the Kingsport landfill, and cardboard goes to a city convenience center rather than the curb.Official guidance
