Scrap metal

Special rules apply

The blue recycling cart takes household metal cans only, and the Compost Site's no-accept list names metal outright. A large metal item that meets the bulky item definition can be booked with Sanitation, and anything else travels as a tarped self-haul load to the Pine Hill Landfill.

City cost & eligibility
Longview publishes no scrap metal price. A metal item booked as a bulky collection is quoted by item, and a self-haul load at the landfill carries the tipping fee with the sanitation customer discount that the operator quotes, so the amount is confirmed before the load moves.
When & how
Call Sanitation at 903-237-1250 to ask whether the piece can ride a bulky collection, or take it to the Pine Hill Landfill during gate hours on a tarped load. Keep metal out of the blue cart unless it is a can.
Get it ready
Cut or fold anything longer than the ten foot brush limit, strip plastic, glass, wood and refrigerant parts before the load leaves the property, and wrap sharp edges. Keep loose metal out of the Compost Site load entirely, because that site refuses metal along with appliances, tires and construction debris.

Right place.

Book a bulky collection before anything goes to the curb

Schedule by calling Sanitation at 903-237-1250, sending a CitySend request or filling out the online form, then put the items out no earlier than the day before the collection. Placing items at the curb authorizes the pickup and counts against the four free collections in the rolling twelve month period, and material left after the eight cubic yards are collected has to come back onto the property.

Carts are out before 7:30 a.m. with everything inside them

Trash and recyclables have to fit fully inside the city-provided carts, and the carts need at least four feet of clearance from cars, trees, trailers and mailboxes, with nothing parked in front of them. Carts go out before 7:30 a.m. on the collection day, leaving them out the night before is allowed, and blocked or improperly placed carts are not serviced.

Recycling is collected the day after trash day

Recycling now runs one day after the scheduled trash day, and a blue-lidded cart put out early on trash day is skipped and serviced the following day. A cart with household trash or other non-recyclable material in it is tagged and can be removed from the property, so keep styrofoam, clothing, wood, yard waste, bags and food out of the blue cart.

Tarp the load and prepare appliances and tires before Pine Hill

By law every load must be tarped on the way to the Pine Hill Landfill. A tire is refused unless it has been split, quartered or shredded, a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioning unit is refused unless the refrigerant was removed by a certified technician whose certification letter comes with the unit, and oil, oil filters and lead acid batteries are not accepted at the site at all.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

A Longview household that hauls its own load has two destinations. The Compost Site at 2020 Swinging Bridge Rd takes yard waste free from sanitation customers with a current water bill and matching driver's license, turns it into compost and mulch, and also takes glass, and it refuses cross ties, rocks, concrete, construction and demolition waste, pallets, sheetrock, ceramic tile, roofing, landscape timbers, lumber, fence posts, metal, appliances and tires. Everything else goes to the Pine Hill Landfill south of Longview near Highway 31 and FM 1252, which is operated by Republic Services rather than the city, is open Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and gives Longview residents with sanitation service a discount that the operator quotes at 800-678-7274. Loads must be tarped by law, tires are accepted only after being split, quartered or shredded, oil and lead acid batteries are refused, and an appliance that held refrigerant needs a certification letter showing a certified technician removed it. Self-hauled household and bulky loads from Longview addresses, waste tires that have been split, quartered or shredded, and appliances whose refrigerant has been recovered by a certified technician with the certification letter.

Oil and oil filters and lead acid batteries are not accepted, an unsplit tire is refused, a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioning unit without a certified refrigerant removal letter is refused, and by law every load must be tarped in transit. The sanitation customer discount does not apply to commercial waste.

Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Scrap metal removal, from your photo request to the pickup plan in Longview.

How do I request a scrap metal pickup quote?

Text photos to (844) 879-0892 with your ZIP code, approximate amount and access details. Show the whole pile and a closer view of the material. Our team will confirm the scope, quote and scheduling.

Do you buy scrap metal or pick it up for free?

This is a request for a paid removal quote, not a scrap-buying or free-collection offer. If you want to sell metal, ask a local recycler about its accepted materials and delivery requirements.

How much does scrap metal removal cost?

This service uses a custom quote. Send photos, the approximate amount, your ZIP code and access details. Our team confirms the scope and price before booking; there is no fixed-price catalog item for this pile.

Can you collect it today?

Tell our team your preferred day when you request the quote. Timing depends on the material, amount and access, and is confirmed with your quote. Sending photos does not reserve same-day pickup.

Where does Longview take scrap metal?

Not in a barrel: the blue cart takes household metal cans, and the Compost Site refuses metal. A large metal piece can be booked with Sanitation as a bulky item if it meets the definition, and the other published route is a tarped self-haul load at the Pine Hill Landfill, where sanitation customers get a discount.Official guidance

Why was my blue recycling cart tagged?

The city now enforces the recycling rules, because trash in a blue-lidded cart contaminates the load at the processing facility. A cart with household trash or non-recyclable material is tagged and can be removed from the property, only plastics numbered one, two and five, metal cans, paper and cardboard belong in it, and recycling is collected the day after the trash day.Official guidance

Do Longview residents get a discount at the Pine Hill Landfill?

Yes, residents with sanitation service receive a discount on waste delivered to the Pine Hill Landfill, which Republic Services operates rather than the city, and the current discount amount comes from the operator at 800-678-7274. The discount does not apply to commercial waste, and the load has to be tarped on the road.Official guidance

Why will Longview not collect my old refrigerator?

Because it still holds refrigerant. The bulky item service excludes anything containing or that once contained refrigerant, so a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioning unit is not collected at the curb, and the Pine Hill Landfill takes one only after a certified technician recovers the refrigerant and the certification letter travels with the unit.Official guidance
