Match your item

Construction cleanup starts with the right items.

We currently accept the doors, toilets and bathroom vanities listed here, already detached and ready outside. Choose each item separately. Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted, including in bags.

Doors

Count each detached door panel separately. Have it removed from its hinges before pickup. A whole installed doorway or garage door is not the same item.

Toilets

Choose Toilet for an ordinary household toilet that has already been disconnected, drained and moved outside. Text a photo before booking if yours is broken or has loose sharp pieces.

Bathroom vanities

Choose the small, standard or large bathroom vanity that matches your sink cabinet. A makeup table has a separate choice. Plumbing disconnection and removal from the wall happen before pickup.

Construction and renovation debris

Special rules apply

Renovation material is not named in the city's bulk categories, and the Recycling Convenience Center excludes construction debris and points it to the Rockingham County / Harrisonburg Landfill. That landfill takes construction and wood debris as its own per-ton category and weighs each load at the scale.

City cost & eligibility
From $85 per ton of construction and wood debris at the Rockingham County / Harrisonburg Landfill, which is the category the fee listing dated July 1, 2026 publishes for construction and wood debris, with the load weighed at the scale. Loads from the City of Harrisonburg or Rockingham County. The landfill charges by weight rather than by item, so the total depends on what the load weighs and no minimum published charge covers the trip.
When & how
The landfill is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with commercial loads arriving before 4:15 PM and reduced hours around major holidays. There is no city collection day for renovation material.
Get it ready
Keep renovation debris out of the trash cart and out of the reserved bulk pile, because the city program does not list it and the drop-off excludes it. Take the load to 813 Greendale Rd and stop at the scale.

The handoff matters

Right item.
Right place.

A bulk pickup starts with a reservation

Bulk and yard debris are collected on the regular trash day, but only after the address books that day through ReCollect. The reservation closes at 12 pm on the business day before the pickup, and one reserved day covers up to five bulk items and ten yard-debris units. An item that was not part of the reservation is not collected, so book the category and the count before anything moves to the curb.

Household trash rides in the city cart and nowhere else

Trash goes out in the city-issued Toter trash cart with the lid closed, behind the curb at the property line by 7:00 AM on the collection day and not before 4:00 PM the day before. Bags that do not fit need a refuse sticker on each one, and in the Downtown Central Business District carts go out no earlier than 6:00 AM and before 11:00 AM, and are not left out overnight.

City of Harrisonburg Public Works

Haul it to the Rockingham County / Harrisonburg Landfill

A household with a renovation load, tires, white goods or another load that the city's bulk list and drop-off center do not take.

Cost & conditions
The landfill publishes rates by weight and by material rather than one gate price, and the posted fee listing is dated July 1, 2026. Every load is weighed at the scale, so confirm the rate for the exact load before making the trip.
Arrange it
Take the load to 813 Greendale Rd during open hours and stop at the scale to be weighed.

Chemicals, cleaners, cooking oil, fertilizers, fuels, lead acid batteries, railroad ties, medical waste and latex paint that is not completely dried out are not accepted, and used oil is temporarily not accepted.

Open the landfill page

With a new purchase

Order a container for a renovation or cleanout load

A household or contractor with torn-out material or a load too large to move in one trip to the landfill.

Cost & conditions
No public rate covers a private box, because a container company quotes its own price for the box, the haul and the disposal. Confirm the rate and the accepted material before ordering.
Arrange it
Contact a licensed container or hauling company to place the box, then have the same company collect it after the work.

The city does not collect renovation material at the curb and the Recycling Convenience Center excludes it, so a private box and the landfill are the local routes, and hazardous material still belongs at a household hazardous waste day.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

The two self-haul routes in Harrisonburg sit on opposite sides of the city. The Recycling Convenience Center at 2055 Beery Road is the closer one for household items: it takes furniture, mattresses, box springs, televisions, computers and other electronics, appliances with the Freon removed, scrap metal, yard debris, bagged grass clippings and sorted recycling, and it is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to noon except on city holidays. It does not take construction debris, automotive parts, prescription medication or household hazardous waste. The Rockingham County / Harrisonburg Landfill at 813 Greendale Rd is open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, accepts construction and wood debris, yard debris, white goods and Freon appliances, and charges by weight with a separate per-tire charge for tires. It refuses chemicals, cleaners, fuels, railroad ties, cooking oil, fertilizers, medical waste and lead acid batteries, and will not take latex paint unless it is completely dried out. Household hazardous waste has its own collection days instead, and the next published drop-off on the city page is Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 8:00 AM to noon at the landfill. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Construction debris removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Harrisonburg.

How much does construction debris removal cost in Harrisonburg?

Pricing is per accepted item. A detached door is $99 as a single item, an ordinary toilet is $79, and a small bathroom vanity is $99. Larger vanities have their own choices. Select the listed items to see the exact combined price. These prices do not cover mixed rubble or loose building materials. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; applicable sales tax appears before payment.

Can I get same-day toilet or vanity pickup in Harrisonburg?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup, where available. Checkout shows the dates you can choose. Arrange disconnection, removal and the move outside first, then have the fixture ready by the time in your confirmation. We text you before arrival and provide pickup photos when it is done.

Will you disconnect a sink or take a door off its hinges?

The fixture must already be detached, disconnected and accessible outside at ground level. Arrange plumbing, electrical work, removal from walls or hinges, and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb handles loading and haul-away from your outdoor pickup spot.

Can I add bags of drywall, tile or other demolition waste?

Mixed drywall, tile, concrete, lumber and demolition rubble are not accepted. This page offers pickup for the listed doors, toilets and bathroom vanities that are already removed. Do not book loose building materials as household trash bags or as an extra item. Arrange suitable disposal for those materials with your contractor or a debris specialist.

Can a door, toilet and vanity go in the same pickup?

Yes. Add each listed fixture separately and choose the correct vanity size. Each detached door panel counts as one item. The combined price appears before you book. Keep the fixtures together outside, separate from anything staying, and add a location photo on your order page.

Who collects trash and bulk items in Harrisonburg?

The City of Harrisonburg Public Works department runs the program, and residents reach it at 540-434-5928 or PublicWorks@HarrisonburgVa.gov. Trash is collected from a city-issued Toter trash cart, and bulk and yard debris are collected on the same day as the regular trash route once the address reserves that day through ReCollect.Official guidance

What do I do with trash that does not fit in the cart?

Buy refuse stickers from the Treasurer's office in the municipal building downtown or from Public Utilities at 2055 Beery Road and put one on each extra bag that goes out beside the Toter cart. The stickers do not expire, so they can be bought ahead of time. Bags of regular trash are not accepted as bulk items.Official guidance

Where does household hazardous waste go in Harrisonburg?

To a household hazardous waste day at the Rockingham County Landfill, 813 Greendale Road, for city and county residents. The next published drop-off on the city page is Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 8:00 AM to noon, and collection is limited to five units per household per event. Accepted materials include oil-based paint, solvents, spent fuel, motor oil, syringes, pesticides, herbicides, batteries, fluorescent lights, antifreeze and cleaners, with no containers over five gallons.Official guidance
