Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Televisions, computers and electronics

Accepted with preparation

Electronics are refused in the town bulk pile and televisions and monitors are excluded from the town's quarterly event, but Fairfax County takes televisions, computers and peripherals free of charge at its transfer stations.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Fairfax County accepts electronics including televisions, computers, gaming systems, keyboards, speakers and cords at the I-66 Transfer Station at no charge, with proof of residency possibly required; the town's Quarterly Recycling Day also takes every item with a plug except televisions and computer monitors at no charge.
When & how
Take the device to the I-66 Transfer Station on West Ox Road during the hazardous waste and e-waste hours, which run six days a week with a Wednesday closure, or to a town Quarterly Recycling Day for anything without a screen.
Get it ready
Wipe the personal information off computers, phones and smart televisions before anything leaves the house, keep cables and remotes with the device, and keep electronics out of the town bulk pile and out of the recycling container.

Right item.
Right place.

Everything at the curb by 6 a.m.

Trash, recycling, yard waste, brush and the bulk pile all go out by 6 a.m. on the household's weekly collection day and no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before, at the curb line or edge of pavement where the crews can reach them, out of the sidewalk and the traffic right of way. Containers come back in by 7 p.m. on the collection day, and the town sends five separate trucks, one for each stream.

The county handles what the town refuses

Appliances, mattresses, tires, small construction loads, chemicals and all electronics go to Fairfax County rather than the town curb. The I-66 Transfer Station on West Ox Road takes residential trash and recycling Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with hazardous waste and e-waste open six days a week and closed Wednesday, and proof of county residency may be required at the gate.

Use a town Quarterly Recycling Day

A town household with waste oil, antifreeze, a vehicle battery, scrap metal or a plug in electronic item that is not a television or monitor.

Cost & conditions
No charge. The town runs the quarterly recycling days four times a year at the Northside Property Yard and publishes no charge for the accepted materials; televisions and computer monitors are excluded and go to the county instead.
Arrange it
Watch the town calendar for the first Saturday of March, June, September or December and drop the material at the Northside Property Yard between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., entering from 600 Mill Street NE or 600 Glyndon Street NE.

Only four days a year, tires are not accepted, televisions and monitors are not accepted, and scrap metal has to arrive with all gas, oil, fluid, freon and glass removed.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Vienna households split their self haul between the town and the county. The town takes waste oil, antifreeze, vehicle batteries, most electronics without a screen and scrap metal four times a year at the Northside Property Yard on Mill Street NE, takes batteries all year at the town hall and the community center, and runs a food scraps composting drop off at the 400 block of Mill Street NE by the purple glass bin. Everything the town refuses goes to Fairfax County: the I-66 Transfer Station on West Ox Road takes residential trash, recycling and food scraps seven days a week, takes televisions, computers and peripherals free of charge, runs the free household hazardous waste program six days a week with a Wednesday closure, and prices appliances, mattresses, tires, small construction loads and extra trash on its published unit and tonnage schedule. Proof of Fairfax County residency may be required at the gate, and the site closes on Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day and Easter Sunday. Glass is the one stream that goes the other way, to the purple county bins at 431 Mill Street NE in town or the Jim Scott Community Center on Vaden Drive. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

TV removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Vienna.

How much does TV removal cost in Vienna?

A flat-screen TV under 42 inches is $79 as the first item and $19 as an additional item. Larger flat screens and tube TVs have their own prices. Loading, transportation and disposal are included. Choose the type that matches your TV and review your total, including any applicable tax, before payment.

Can I get same-day TV pickup in Vienna?

Book by 2pm at your pickup address for same-day pickup. Choose from the dates offered at checkout and have the TV outside according to your confirmation. We text you when your hauler is on the way and provide photos when the pickup is done.

Will Dropcurb remove my TV from the wall or carry it downstairs?

You arrange unmounting, disconnection and indoor carrying before pickup. Dropcurb starts at an accessible outdoor location, where we load your TV and take it away. If you need help removing a mounted TV or moving a heavy tube TV outside, arrange that separately before your pickup day.

Do you pick up old tube or CRT televisions?

Yes. Choose Tube TV for an older television with curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Its price is $249 as the first item and $249 as an additional item. A rear-projection television is a different item; send a photo before booking rather than choosing the tube-TV option.

Does my old TV have to work?

Your TV does not need to turn on for removal. Choose its type and size and arrange to have it outside before pickup. A non-working TV and a TV with exposed broken glass are different situations; send a photo of unusual damage so we can confirm the plan before you book.

Where can I take a TV or computer in Vienna?

To the Fairfax County I-66 Transfer Station on West Ox Road, which takes televisions, computers, gaming systems, keyboards, speakers and cords at no charge for residents during its six day e-waste hours. The town's quarterly recycling day takes most electronics but not televisions or monitors.Official guidance
