Treadmill, walking pad or commercial model?
Household treadmill includes folding home models with a tall console. Choose Walking pad for a compact under-desk model, or Commercial treadmill for a large gym machine. All equipment opens those choices.
An exercise bike, elliptical or rower
Spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes all use Exercise bike, including Peloton and other brands. One elliptical includes its connected base, handles and pedals. Rowing machines and Pilates reformers have their own choices.
Weights, racks and benches
Add together the pounds of loose dumbbells, kettlebells, plates and barbells. Free weights are priced in 10 lb units, rounding the combined weight up. For example, 25 lb uses three units. Add a stand, rack or bench separately if it is going too.

Kirkland does not name exercise machines, so a treadmill or exercise bike goes out as a bulky item booked with the hauler, or into the free scrap metal area when the machine is mostly metal.
City cost & eligibility
From $37.3 each charged bulky item when the machine goes out at the curb, with the first bulky item in the year free; a machine recycled as scrap metal at a county station carries no charge. Single-family Kirkland households for the curbside route. The county scrap metal area is open to customers who live or do business in King County outside Seattle and Milton.
When & how
Book the curbside pickup with Waste Management, or take the machine to the scrap metal area at the Houghton, Factoria or Shoreline station during open hours.
Get it ready
Break the machine down as far as it will go and strip anything that is not metal before a scrap metal drop off, because that area asks for loads that are at least half metal. A machine that is not mostly metal and does not fit the cart should be described to the hauler when the pickup is booked.
Bulky items are collected by appointment. Call Waste Management at 425-587-0040 or email pnwrsservices@wm.com, describe the item, and put it at the curb for the arranged day rather than leaving it out and hoping a crew passes. The hauler's phone line is open Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Sort recyclables, yard waste, clean wood and garbage before arriving, because the Houghton station does not take corrugated cardboard in the garbage and refuses televisions, computers and major appliances for disposal. Secure the load, since King County charges an unsecured load fee, keep the combined vehicle and trailer length inside the station limit, and expect to pay at the scale house by card, cash or Apple Pay.

From $40.25 for for a garbage load of up to 320 pounds, with mattresses and refrigerant appliances charged per item at the station rates. Customers who live or do business in King County's service area, which does not include Seattle or Milton. Payment is by Visa, Mastercard, Discover, cash or Apple Pay, and a Cleanup LIFT discount applies with a ProviderOne, EBT or ORCA LIFT card.
Arrange it
Drive the sorted load to the Houghton station at 11724 NE 60th Street in Kirkland, or to Factoria or Shoreline for mattress and refrigerant appliance recycling, and pay at the scale house.
Televisions, computers, monitors, major appliances, batteries, pesticides, propane tanks, sharps and motor oil are refused. Loads are charged by weight with a minimum for the first 320 pounds, the combined vehicle and trailer length is capped at the station, dense items over 200 pounds and rigid pieces over eight feet need prior clearance, and an unsecured load carries an extra fee.

Customers must live or do business in King County outside Seattle and Milton. Corrugated cardboard is not accepted in the garbage, televisions, computers, monitors and major appliances are not accepted for disposal, more than six mattresses a day need prior clearance, and rigid items over eight feet or dense items over 200 pounds need Waste Clearance. Kirkland's own appliance page lists Houghton for free non-refrigerant appliance recycling while King County's restriction page lists major appliance recycling at other stations, so confirm an appliance load with the station before hauling it.

Which option covers a Peloton, spin bike or recumbent bike?+
Choose Exercise bike for one stationary bike, including spin, upright, recumbent and air bikes. Peloton and other brands use the same stationary-bike choice. A treadmill, walking pad and outdoor bicycle are different items, so select their matching options.
How do I book free weights, a weight rack or a bench?+
