Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Household sofas are named in the county oversized item exception and ride the garbage stream at the transfer station in Mountlake Terrace, while a couch that is easier to leave at the curb is collected by Waste Management by special arrangement for a fee.
City cost & eligibility
From $30 for the county garbage fee per vehicle at the Southwest station, where 360 pounds or less is $30 including tax as the minimum fee and anything over that weight is $160 per ton plus tax. Any customer bringing household material to the Southwest Recycling and Transfer Station. Household sofas are specifically exempt from the county rule that limits items to six feet long, and a Waste Management special pickup is the paid alternative.
When & how
Take the piece to 21311 61st Place West during the posted hours, arriving at least 30 minutes before closing and unloading it yourself, or call 1-800-592-9995 to book the curbside special arrangement.
Get it ready
Keep the piece dry and manageable for one person to unload, and leave anything with a fuel tank, battery, liquid or hazardous content out of the load because the county refuses those at the transfer station. Take loose cushions with the sofa rather than bagging them for curbside.
Household junk rides the garbage stream at the county transfer station inside Mountlake Terrace, tires are limited to five per customer per day at regular garbage rates, and clean scrap metal of 85 percent metal or more recycles free.
Tires are limited to five per customer per day at the regular garbage rates and only in passenger car or pickup truck size, while clean scrap metal that is at least 85 percent metal recycles free in the residential recycling area.
When & how
Take the load to 21311 61st Place West, arriving at least 30 minutes before closing and expecting to unload it yourself, or call 1-800-592-9995 to have Waste Management collect bulky material by special arrangement for a fee.
Get it ready
Keep dangerous waste, moderate risk waste, liquid waste, yard and clean wood debris and major motor vehicle components out of the load, because the county refuses them at its facilities. Cut scrap metal to eight feet or less and clean it before it goes in the recycling area, and check whether the load may attract the county hard to handle fee.
Waste Management collects garbage every week, and recycling with food and yard waste every other week, with carts at the curb by 7 a.m. Bag all garbage, keep recycling empty, clean and loose, and put food scraps and yard trimmings in the green cart. Extra garbage, extra recycling and extra yard waste that will not fit in the container with the lid closed all carry a charge.
Hazardous waste, medical waste, syringes, fluorescent bulbs, fuel tanks, liquids, computers and televisions stay out of the garbage cart, and batteries, plastic bags, foam, diapers, shredded paper, aluminum foil and broken dishes stay out of the recycling cart. County facilities refuse electronics, cooling appliances and dangerous waste as well, so each of those items needs the route named on its own page.
Waste Management observes three annual holidays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. A weekday holiday delays collection by one day for the rest of that week, so a Thursday holiday moves Thursday customers to Friday and Friday customers to Saturday. Garbage is not collected on Independence Day, while recycling and yard debris run as scheduled, and the county transfer station closes on New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Bulky items such as mattresses, appliances and building materials are collected by special arrangement for a fee and are not taken on the ordinary collection day, so call Waste Management on 1-800-592-9995 before anything goes to the curb. The same line also handles extra garbage and a container for a clean-out, and the county transfer station is the self-haul option when the item can be carried in a vehicle.
The Snohomish County Southwest Recycling and Transfer Station at 21311 61st Place West is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the last useful arrival at least 30 minutes before closing. Customers unload their own vehicles, the recycling area is for residential customers only, and dangerous waste, moderate risk waste, yard and clean wood debris, liquid waste and major motor vehicle components are refused. The garbage fee is charged per vehicle.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Book a Waste Management special arrangement
A household that would rather leave the couch, mattress, appliance or building material at the curb than load it into a vehicle.
Cost & conditions
The Mountlake Terrace guide states that bulky items such as mattresses, appliances and building materials are collected by special arrangement for a fee, and no rate or size limit is published, so confirm the item and the current price with Waste Management on 1-800-592-9995 when the pickup is booked.
Arrange it
Call 1-800-592-9995 during the posted hours, describe the items, confirm the price and the collection day, and have everything at the curb for that day.

Before you book
A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Mountlake Terrace.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Mountlake Terrace?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
Will anyone take my couch in Mountlake Terrace?+
Yes, by either route. The Snohomish County transfer station at 21311 61st Place West accepts household sofas as garbage, and sofas are named in the county exception to the six foot limit that applies to other oversized items, so the fee is the standard per vehicle garbage fee. Waste Management will instead collect a bulky item from your address by special arrangement for a fee on 1-800-592-9995 if you would rather not haul it.Official guidance
What can I take to the Mountlake Terrace transfer station?+
Household garbage, sofas, appliances without refrigerant, mattresses and covered springs, clean scrap metal that is 85 percent metal or more, up to five passenger car or pickup tires per customer per day, lead acid batteries, motor oil and antifreeze in limited quantities, propane tanks of barbecue size, glass bottles and jars, flattened cardboard and paper, lawn mowers with the fluids drained, and cooking oil. Dangerous waste, yard and clean wood debris, electronics and cooling appliances are refused, and the recycling area is for residential customers only.Official guidance
What does a bulky item drop-off cost in Mountlake Terrace?+

Appliances without refrigerant, lawn mowers with the fluids drained, clean scrap metal and the other listed recyclables cost nothing for residential customers. If you would rather have Waste Management collect the item from your address, that is a special arrangement with its own fee, so confirm the price on the phone first.Official guidance
