The local disposal guide
Wheeling collects its own garbage, recycling and bulky items, and the bulky service is the useful part for anything large. The Sanitation Division at 10 Hunter Avenue takes ordinary household trash, and the same page settles what happens to a couch or a mattress: one large item a week goes out with the regular household trash, in the same spot and on the same truck and day. Everything set out has to be bagged, and containers, boxes and bundles carry published size and weight limits. Glass goes in a cardboard box rather than a bag. What the division will not touch is written down too, and it covers building material, tires, oils and paints, which the city routes to the Ohio County Solid Waste Authority on (304) 234-3884. Recycling runs on its own alternation, red bins one week and blue the next, on the same day as the trash, with no separate charge because the fee sits in the water bill.

Recycling in Wheeling is curbside and free, with red bins one week and blue bins the next, collected on the household trash day. The city pays for it through the water bill rather than a separate charge.
No Wheeling page kept here publishes a yard debris, leaf or brush collection, and the sanitation page refuses building material and caps every box or bundle at four feet by two feet. The route for a yard load therefore has to be confirmed rather than assumed.
Tires are refused by the city's own collection and routed to the county authority, whose published site does not resolve, so the packet carries the phone number rather than a claimed programme.
Scrap metal is named nowhere in the city's published lists. The recycling programme takes food and drink cans, paper and cardboard only, so a metal load has to be confirmed with the city or the county authority.
The handoff matters
Wheeling does not run a separate bulky item schedule. Furniture, televisions, mattresses, box springs and couches go out one large item a week, placed in the same spot as the regular weekly household trash, and the same truck collects them on the same day.
