Finish clearing the space
The last few things still deserve a pickup.
You have decided what is going. Now give those bags and boxes a pickup day, with a price you can see before anyone arrives.
The move is nearly done.
Book the unwanted bags and boxes left after packing. Choose an available pickup day before you hand back the keys, and arrange to have them outside.
The clear-out can be finished.
You do not need a whole house of junk. Select the bags, boxes and larger items you actually have. Your combined price is shown online.
You want to know it is handled.
When the next collection does not fit your plans, choose a Dropcurb pickup day. Updates keep you informed, and completion photos show when the booked items are gone.
A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.
Filled bags and boxes
Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.
Empty cardboard and containers
Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.
Furniture and other larger items
Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Bulky items are collected on a reservation basis, with four free pickups a year for a single-family account and two for each multi-family unit.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. Single-family residential accounts receive four free bulky item pickups each calendar year and each multi-family residential unit receives two, arranged by reservation with the contracted hauler.
When & how
Call Waste Management at (626) 856-1285 or (800) 266-7551 to reserve the pickup, which the City asks for at least 24 hours in advance of the regular collection day, and set the items out no earlier than the evening before the scheduled pickup.
Get it ready
Bulky items are household objects that are too large for the carts and need more than one person to handle. Keep the pile clear of sidewalks, driveways and roadways, and remove or secure refrigerator doors before the pickup.
A mattress goes out as a bulky item, and the City asks for it to be wrapped in a sheet, blanket or plastic before the pickup.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. A mattress uses one of the free bulky item pickups included with the residential account. The nearby drop-off sites are separate programs and the City does not publish their rates.
When & how
Reserve the pickup with Waste Management at (626) 856-1285 or (800) 266-7551, then set the wrapped mattress out no earlier than the evening before the scheduled day.
Get it ready
Wrap the mattress in a sheet, blanket or plastic before it goes to the curb, and keep it clear of sidewalks, driveways and roadways.
Appliances, washing machines, water heaters and refrigerators are on the bulky item list and go out on one of the free reservations.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. The appliance uses one of the free bulky item pickups included with the residential account.
When & how
Reserve the pickup with Waste Management at (626) 856-1285 or (800) 266-7551 and set the appliance out no earlier than the evening before the scheduled day.
Get it ready
Remove or secure the doors on a refrigerator before the pickup, keep the appliance out of the carts, and keep it clear of sidewalks, driveways and roadways.
Electronic devices are within the bulky item definition, so a television or monitor goes out on a bulky reservation rather than in the carts.
City cost & eligibility
No charge. The device uses one of the free bulky item pickups included with the residential account. California's covered electronic waste program and its collectors handle devices separately at no charge to the household.
When & how
Reserve the bulky pickup with Waste Management at (626) 856-1285 or (800) 266-7551, or use a collector from the state eRecycle directory, then set the item out no earlier than the evening before the scheduled day.
Get it ready
Keep electronics out of the trash and recycling carts, because the hauler lists electronic waste as non-acceptable container material. Wipe personal data from a computer, phone or drive before it leaves the property.
Construction debris is not a bulky item and is refused in the carts, so it moves through a project container or a hauling arrangement instead.
City cost & eligibility
The City's residential program does not collect construction and demolition debris, and the contracted hauler lists construction waste as non-acceptable container material. Permitted projects in California also have to meet the state diversion requirement, so the load moves through a container service or a hauler the project arranges, with the documentation the permit requires.
When & how
Arrange the container or the hauling before the project generates debris, because nothing from a project goes out with the Wednesday carts or a bulky pickup.
Get it ready
Keep boards, drywall, tile, roofing material, concrete, dirt and demolition debris out of the carts and off the bulky pile, and separate the recyclable material the project is required to divert so the load can be documented.
The free bulky pickups are booked with the hauler, which the City asks for at least 24 hours ahead, and the items go out no earlier than the evening before the scheduled pickup. Nothing blocks a sidewalk, driveway or roadway, and refrigerator doors are removed or secured first.
A mattress is a bulky item, and the City asks for it to be wrapped in a sheet, blanket or plastic so the crew can handle it. Book the reservation first, then set the wrapped mattress out the evening before the scheduled day.
Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.
City of Arcadia Public Works Services Department and Waste Management
Free bulky item pickup by reservation
Households with a couch, a mattress, an appliance, a refrigerator or an electronic device to clear.
Cost & conditions
No charge. Four free bulky item pickups a calendar year for a single-family residential account and two for each multi-family residential unit.
Arrange it
Call Waste Management at (626) 856-1285 or (800) 266-7551 to reserve the pickup, which the City asks for at least 24 hours before the regular collection day, and set the items out no earlier than the evening before.
Household bulky items only. Construction debris, tires, auto parts, household hazardous waste and household trash are not part of the program, and the pickup count resets each calendar year.
Arcadia residents haul their own material to nearby sites rather than to a city facility. Mattresses go to the Monrovia site on West Duarte Road, to R5 Recycling in Azusa, or to a Republic Services transfer station in East Los Angeles, each with its own unit limit and weekday hours, and the Bye Bye Mattress directory lists further sites and events. Used oil and filters go to certified collection centers, and the City gives out free containers, funnels and oil change mats at the Public Works Service Center on Goldring Road. Scrap metal goes to yards in Irwindale, South El Monte and Baldwin Park, household batteries go to drop boxes at City Hall, the Library, the Community Center and the Public Works Services Department, and household hazardous waste is collected from the doorstep through the hauler's program, with a pharmacy kiosk and a sheriff station for medicines. Before you book
A few things worth knowing.
Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Arcadia.
How much does bulk junk removal cost in Arcadia?+
A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.
Can you pick up bags of junk today?+
Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.
Do I count every object inside a bag or box?+
No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.
Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?+
Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
Can I book bags, boxes and furniture together?+
Yes. Select the bags and boxes, then add each larger item using its own catalog choice. The booking shows one combined price for the selected items. Move everything to an accessible outdoor spot before pickup; indoor carrying and sorting are not included. Keep anything you want to retain apart from the booked items and identify what goes in your photos and notes.
How many free bulky pickups do I get?+
A single-family residential account gets four free bulky item pickups each calendar year, and each multi-family residential unit gets two. Each one is a reservation, so call Waste Management at (626) 856-1285 or (800) 266-7551, and the City asks for at least 24 hours of notice.Official guidance
What counts as a bulky item?+
Large, bulky or difficult to handle household objects such as couches, furniture, mattresses, rugs, appliances, washing machines, water heaters, refrigerators and large bundled branches that will not fit in the green container. The published list is not exhaustive, so ask the hauler about anything else.Official guidance
When should bulky items go out?+
No earlier than the evening before the scheduled pickup, and never in a way that blocks a sidewalk, driveway or roadway. Refrigerator doors have to be removed or secured before the crew arrives.Official guidance
Does a mattress need to be wrapped for pickup?+
Yes. A mattress is collected as a bulky item, and the City asks that it be wrapped in a sheet, blanket or plastic so the hauler's staff can pick it up. Reserve the pickup first, and set it out no earlier than the evening before.Official guidance
Can I drop a mattress off instead?+
Yes. The City lists nearby mattress drop-off sites in Monrovia, Azusa and East Los Angeles, each with its own unit limit and weekday hours, and the Bye Bye Mattress directory lists further sites and events. Confirm hours, limits and any charge with the site before loading.Official guidance
Which appliances will Arcadia pick up?+
Refrigerators, washing machines, water heaters and appliances generally are on the bulky item list, so they go out by reservation with the free pickups included on the account. Refrigerator doors must be removed or secured before the crew arrives.Official guidance
What about scrap metal from an appliance or a project?+
The City points residents to scrap yards that take metal, including SA Recycling in Irwindale, P and T Metals in South El Monte, and Allan Company in Baldwin Park, so clean metal can be recycled instead of going to a landfill.Official guidance
Can a television go out with the trash?+
No. The hauler lists electronic waste as non-acceptable container material, and the City's bulky item definition covers electronic devices, so a television goes out on a bulky reservation or to a collector in the state directory instead.Official guidance
Why are televisions treated differently in California?+
California law treats nonfunctioning cathode ray tubes and the mercury bulbs in televisions, laptops, tablets and monitors as hazardous waste, so they are not trash. The state's Covered Electronic Waste Recycling Program funds collection and recycling for households, and the eRecycle directory lists the collectors.Official guidance
How do I get rid of construction debris in Arcadia?+
Not through the residential carts or the bulky program, because construction waste is non-acceptable container material and construction debris is not a household bulky item. Project material moves through a container service or a hauler the project arranges, and the hauler offers construction waste service for those loads.Official guidance
Does a permitted project have to divert debris?+
Yes. California's green building standards require locally permitted new residential and non-residential construction, demolition and certain addition or alteration projects to recycle or salvage at least 65 percent of the nonhazardous construction and demolition debris the project generates, so keep the recycling records the permit requires.Official guidance
Who collects trash in Arcadia?+
The City contracts with Waste Management for residential and multi-family trash and recycling, and the collection runs on Wednesdays city-wide. The Public Works Services Department at (626) 254-2720 handles City questions, and the hauler's customer service line is (800) 266-7551.Official guidance
What do I do with paint, chemicals, batteries and medicines?+
Arcadia residents are allowed up to three free household hazardous waste collections a year through the hauler's doorstep program at (800) 449-7587 or wmatyourdoor.com, and business material is not collected. Household batteries go to drop boxes at City Hall, the Library, the Community Center or the Public Works Services Department, with the contact ends of lithium batteries taped and no automotive batteries. Medicines go to the pharmacy kiosk on South Baldwin Avenue, and pharmaceuticals and sharps are accepted anonymously at the Temple City sheriff station.Official guidance
What plastics can go in the recycling cart?+
The curbside cart takes type 1, 2 and 5 plastics, identified by the numbered recycling symbol on the packaging. Tetrapak cartons are not recyclable in the City's service because of the waxy surface coating, even though the packaging suggests otherwise.Official guidance
How does green waste go out?+
Green waste is collected on the same Wednesday schedule as trash and recycling, and large bundled branches that will not fit in the green container can go out as a bulky item on one of the free reservations. The City also sells compost bins to residents.Official guidance
