Match the screen

Flat screen or tube? Start with the shape.

The TV’s type and size determine which item to choose. A new model and an old model can use the same option if their shape and screen size match.

Flat-screen TVs

Measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner, without the frame. Choose under 42 inches or 42 inches and larger. A TV measuring exactly 42 inches belongs to the larger option.

Tube TVs

An older tube or CRT television has curved glass and a deep, heavy body. Choose Tube TV even if its screen is small. A rear-projection TV is different; send a photo before booking so we can check the fit.

TV stands and other electronics

The TV price covers the television. Add a media console, computer monitor or other item separately if it is going too. Choose only what you want removed and review the combined price.

Electronics and televisions

Accepted with preparation

Electronic waste is on the acceptable bulky item list, so a television or computer can ride a bulky pickup, and the city also runs a separate electronics collection through the same hauler three times a year with up to five items, plus a drop-off at the Recycling Buyback Center on El Camino Real.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Carlsbad residents. The hauler collection runs three times a year with up to five items each, and the buyback center drop-off publishes no fee for electronics.
When & how
Call Republic Services at 760-332-6464 to schedule the electronics collection, or use the Recycling Buyback Center at 5960 El Camino Real, published as Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed Sundays.
Get it ready
Wipe personal data before handover, keep the device whole, and leave compressed gas cylinders, electrical power distribution equipment, metal switch gear, oil-filled transformers and smoke detectors out of the load because the buyback center refuses them.

Right item.
Right place.

Batteries have three routes and lithium is the exception

Household batteries such as alkaline, zinc-carbon, 9 volt, AA, AAA, C and D go out in a clear zipper bag on top of the recycling cart on the service day, or to the Palomar Transfer Station Recycling Buyback Center, or into the collection bins at the Georgina Cole Library, the Dove Lane library and the Library Learning Center, where only non-rechargeable household types are taken. Lithium batteries and coin cells are hazardous waste instead and go to the Vista facility free of charge or through the paid door collection.

For your Dropcurb pickup

Use a permitted, accessible outdoor spot. Arrange the move out of your home, keep shared access clear and follow your confirmation’s readiness instructions. Check with your building about access or staging limits before booking.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Carlsbad residents have two drop-off addresses. The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at 1145 East Taylor St. in Vista takes paint, oil, solvents, pesticides, aerosols, antifreeze, photo chemicals, poisons and lithium batteries free on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with published closures on holiday weekends and a paid door-to-door alternative booked at 800-714-1195. The Recycling Buyback Center at 5960 El Camino Real takes household electronics, household batteries, scrap metal and cardboard during its posted weekday and Saturday hours, and it is also the only place a resident may self-haul construction and demolition material, which requires the current vehicle registration, proof of insurance and a photo of the hauling vehicle with its license plate visible. Construction containers are different again: the city has an exclusive franchise for temporary waste collection, so only Republic Services can haul that material, ordered through CarlsbadRecycling@RepublicServices.com or 760-332-6464, and qualifying projects report their diversion through Green Halo. Household bulky items stay on the curbside route, where three pickups a year cover up to five items each.
