A clear count. An exact price.

Count the bags and boxes, not everything inside.

A few simple choices turn a mixed pile into a clear booking. No need to estimate how much of a truck it might fill.

Filled bags and boxes

Count each trash bag or filled household box. Books and media go by the box. Clothes, bedding and shoes go by the filled bag. Toys packed together have a Box of toys choice. Ask us about unusually heavy or oversized bags and boxes first.

Empty cardboard and containers

Empty cardboard is a different choice: choose single empty boxes or tied bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Compacted bales have their own weight-based choices and require loading-dock access. A Storage bin choice covers the empty bin itself; ask us to confirm the contents if they are going too.

Furniture and other larger items

Add the actual larger item alongside your bags and boxes, such as a sofa, chair or mattress. It has its own price and preparation. Keep construction materials and items needing special handling out of ordinary household bags.

Bulky items, furniture and mattresses

Accepted with preparation

Household appliances, mattresses, furniture and miscellaneous bulky material are collected free on the regular trash day when the pickup is scheduled ahead and kept to five items.

City cost & eligibility
No charge. Free bulky item pickups for Cerritos residential accounts on the regular trash service day, scheduled with the hauler at least 24 hours in advance and limited to five items per pickup. A pickup arranged for a non-collection day carries a published per pickup charge, which sits in its own option.
When & how
Call Athens Services at (833) 791-2376 at least 24 hours before the regular trash service day or submit the online request, specify the items, and have them at the curb by 7 a.m. on the collection day.

Accepted with preparation

Household appliances are named in the bulky item definition, so they go out on a free scheduled pickup like other large household items.

Construction and demolition debris

Not on the regular city route

Construction material is not eligible for the bulky pickup, so a project load moves through a city container rate or an arranged haul instead.

City cost & eligibility
The City states that construction material is not eligible for a bulky item pickup, and it is not part of the weekly cart service either. The City's residential rate sheet publishes container options for the load, including a three cubic yard clean-up bin and a roll-off pull with a six ton limit, both with disposal included, and those amounts sit in their own options.
When & how
Arrange the container before the project generates debris, because nothing from a project goes out with the weekly carts or the bulky pickup.
Get it ready
Keep boards, drywall, tile, roofing material, concrete, dirt and demolition debris out of all three carts and off the bulky pile, and separate anything reusable or recyclable so the load is as small and as clean as possible.

Taking it somewhere yourself?

Cerritos residents have a franchise hauler rather than a city transfer station. Batteries and fluorescent light bulbs drop at the E-Recycling of California facility at 7230 Petterson Lane in Paramount at no additional charge, and household hazardous waste goes to a Los Angeles County round-up event, which is scheduled through (888) CLEAN-LA. For material that the weekly carts and the free bulky pickup cannot take, the City's residential rate sheet publishes container options, including a three cubic yard clean-up bin and a roll-off pull with a six ton limit, both with disposal included. The City also suggests donating usable goods before scheduling a pickup, listing the Salvation Army at (800) SA-TRUCK and the Goodwill donation centers in Norwalk and Long Beach. Before you book

A few things
worth knowing.

Bulk junk removal, from choosing your item to pickup day in Cerritos.

How much does bulk junk removal cost in Cerritos?

A trash bag is $59 as the first item and $10 additional. A filled household box is $59 as the first item. Add your actual items and quantities to see the combined price before booking. Loading, transportation and disposal are included; any applicable sales tax is shown before payment.

Can you pick up bags of junk today?

Book by 2pm in the pickup address’s local time for same-day pickup. Available dates appear at checkout. Have the booked bags and boxes outside and accessible according to your confirmation. You receive pickup updates and completion photos; the booking is for a day rather than an exact arrival time.

Do I count every object inside a bag or box?

No. Count the filled bags or boxes using the matching choice. Books and media go in Filled household box; clothes, bedding and shoes go in Bag of clothes & bedding; packed toys have a Box of toys choice. Empty cardboard is separate, with individual empty boxes and bundles of 10 flattened boxes. Heavy, oversized or unusual contents need a photo review before booking.

Can you pick up a small loose pile of household junk?

Yes. Estimate how many trash bags the small household pile would fill, and bag or box as much as possible. Select furniture and other larger items separately. There is no extra charge just because the pile is loose. Send a photo first if the count or contents are unclear. A household Dumpster Bag choice does not accept construction debris.
